One of the largest populations of crocodiles in Costa Rica is located at the Tempisque River. The species is threatened by habitat loss and poaching; but its populations have grown due to the protection given by law. The research was conducted in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. We made a characterization of popular knowledge, activities and perceptions of 374 residents of the study area. It was found that 55% believe that the crocodiles are abundant, 70% believe that populations have increased. The most dangerous activities done are recreation, swimming and fishing. There are significant differences between the proportions of response (X2: 71, n = 10, p <0.0001 X2). These activities are done daily (25%), weekly (30%), monthly (18%) and annually (10%). The risk of attack and the crocodile’s density in the river are not recognized. Also, a lack of knowledge about the natural history and ecology of the species is shown. The reasons for attacks are: the aggressiveness of the animals and their density. There are differences in the responses on the reasons of the attacks (X2: 35, n 8 p <0.0001). Generally, the crocodile perception is unfavorable. One of the largest populations of crocodiles in Costa Rica is located at the Tempisque River. This study presents a pro social behavior exploration in a group of adults with mild to moderate mental retardation. General concepts about the pro social behavior, empathy, altruism, cooperation and mental retardation are reviewed. In addition, a replica task of the experiment ""Sharing"" whose main objective is the identification of pro-social behaviors. All this, in order to contribute to research theoretical vacuum on the cognitive impairment topic and specifically in mental retardation. The sampling consisted of 9 adults, 2 female and 2 male, Colombian nationals, between the ages of 21 and 23 years, with mild and moderate clinical diagnoses of mental retardation, who are educated in the process of training for work. The replica task was applied and documented in audiovisual media where it was found that this population manifest prosocial behavior."Psicólogo (a)Pregrad

This exploratory study aims to identify, to cluster, and to set an emotional value of the content of tweets including 'university' and sustainability-related terms in Spain in comparison to the rest of the world. For six months, in Spain, 2370 tweets were collected and 53,567 tweets in the rest of the world (English language). To carry out this research, sentiment and topic clustering analyses were applied. The results present key factors that involve the environment, research, and innovation through the role of universities in communities. The outcome also adds an entrepreneurship vision and practical implication of academic knowledge in industries. The conclusions of the present study can be useful to evidence the contribution of universities in their pursuit of a sustainable environment. Our findings will also define important questions to be addressed through the main mission of universities as part of an innovative process of answering new challenge

    Pelvic actinimycosis

    Get PDF
Actinomycosis is a chronic bacterial infection caused by Actinomyces, Gram-positive anaerobic bacteria. Its symptomatology imitates some malignant pelvic tumours, tuberculosis, or nocardiosis, causing abscesses and fistulas. Actinomycoses are opportunistic infections and require normal mucous barriers to be altered. No epidemiological studies have been conducted to determine prevalence or incidence of such infections. Objective. To analyse the clinical cases of pelvic actinomycosis reported worldwide, to update the information about the disease. Methods. A systematic review of worldwide pelvic actinomycosis cases between 1980 and 2014 was performed, utilising the PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases. The following information was analysed: year, country, type of study, number of cases, use of intrauterine device (IUD), final and initial diagnosis, andmethod of diagnosis. Results. 63 articles met the search criteria, of which 55 reported clinical cases and 8 reported cross-sectional studies. Conclusions. Pelvic actinomycosis is confusing to diagnose and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of pelvic chronic inflammatory lesions. It is commonly diagnosed through a histological report, obtained after a surgery subsequent to an erroneous initial diagnosis. A bacterial culture in anaerobic medium could be useful for the diagnosis but requires a controlled technique and should be performed using specialised equipment
