Field theoretic calculation of the surface tension for a model electrolyte system
We carry out the calculation of the surface tension for a model electrolyte
to first order in a cumulant expansion about a free field theory equivalent to
the Debye-H\"uckel approximation. In contrast with previous calculations, the
surface tension is calculated directly without recourse to integrating
thermodynamic relations. The system considered is a monovalent electrolyte with
a region at the interface, of width h, from which the ionic species are
excluded. In the case where the external dielectric constant epsilon_0 is
smaller than the electrolyte solution's dielectric constant epsilon we show
that the calculation at this order can be fully regularized. In the case where
h is taken to be zero the Onsager-Samaras limiting law for the excess surface
tension of dilute electrolyte solutions is recovered, with corrections coming

Multi-wavelength characterisation of z~2 clustered, dusty star forming galaxies discovered by Planck
(abridged) We report the discovery of PHz G95.5-61.6, a complex structure
detected in emission in the Planck all-sky survey that corresponds to two
over-densities of high-redshift galaxies. This is the first source from the
Planck catalogue of high-z candidates that has been completely characterised
with follow-up observations from the optical to the sub-millimetre domain.
Herschel/SPIRE observations at 250, 350 and 500 microns reveal the existence of
five sources producing a 500 microns emission excess that spatially corresponds
to the candidate proto-clusters discovered by Planck. Further observations at
CFHT in the optical bands (g and i) and in the near infrared (J, H and K_s),
plus mid infrared observations with IRAC/Spitzer (at 3.6 and 4.5 microns)
confirm that the sub-mm red excess is associated with an over-density of
colour-selected galaxies. Follow-up spectroscopy of 13 galaxies with
VLT/X-Shooter establishes the existence of two high-z structures: one at z~1.7
(three confirmed member galaxies), the other at z~2.0 (six confirmed members).
This double structure is also seen in the photometric redshift analysis of a
sample of 127 galaxies located inside a circular region of 1'-radius containing
the five Herschel/SPIRE sources, where we found a double-peaked excess of
galaxies at z~1.7 and z~2.0 with respect to the surrounding region. These
results suggest that PHz G95.5-61.6 corresponds to two accreting nodes, not
physically linked to one another, embedded in the large scale structure of the
Universe at z~2 and along the same line-of-sight. In conclusion, the data,
methods and results illustrated in this pilot project confirm that Planck data
can be used to detect the emission from clustered, dusty star forming galaxies
at high-z, and, thus, to pierce through the early growth of cluster-scale

DEVELOPEMENT AND VALIDATION OF ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR SIMULTANEOUS ESTIMATION OF CILNIDIPINE AND OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL IN BULK AND TABLET DOSAGE FORM BY RP-HPLC
An economical, precise, rapid and accurate RP HPLC method has been developed for the simultaneous estimation of Olmesartan Medoxomil and Cilnidipine in bulk and tablet dosage form. Separation was carried out on Jasco HPLC system equipped with HiQ sil C18 column (250 Ăâ 4.6 mm i.d.) and PDA detector using Methanol: 40 mM Potassium dihydrogen ortho phosphate buffer (90:10 v/v) as the mobile phase.Ortho-phosphoric acid was used to adjust pH to 3.0, and detection was carried out at 254 nm. Results were linear in the range of 5-30 ĂÂŒg/ml for Cilnidipine and 10-50 ĂÂŒg/ml for Olmesartan Medoxomil respectively. The method was successfully applied for the analysis of drugs in pharmaceutical formulation. Results of the analysis were validated statistically and by recovery studies
Determination of confusion noise for far-infrared measurements
We present a detailed assessment of the far-infrared confusion noise imposed
on measurements with the ISOPHOT far-infrared detectors and cameras aboard the
ISO satellite. We provide confusion noise values for all measurement
configurations and observing modes of ISOPHOT in the 90<=lambda<=200um
wavelength range. Based on these results we also give estimates for cirrus
confusion noise levels at the resolution limits of current and future
instruments of infrared space telescopes: Spitzer/MIPS, ASTRO-F/FIS and

Dissecting the Cosmic Infrared Background with 3D Instruments
The cosmic infrared background (CIB) consists of emission from distant,
dusty, star-forming galaxies. Energetically, the CIB is very important as it
contains as much energy as the extragalactic optical background. The nature and
evolutionary status of the objects making up the background are, however,
unclear. The CIB peaks at ~150 microns, and as such is most effectively studied
from space. The limited apertures of space-borne telescopes set the angular
resolution that can be attained, and so even Herschel, with its 3.5m diameter,
will be confusion-limited at this wavelengths at ~5mJy. The bulk of the
galaxies contributing to the CIB are fainter than this, so it is difficult to
study them without interferometry. Here we present the results of a preliminary
study of an alternative way of probing fainter than the continuum confusion
limit using far-IR imaging spectroscopy. An instrument capable of such
observations is being planned for SPICA - a proposed Japanese mission with an
aperture equivalent to that of Herschel and more than 2 orders of magnitude
more sensitive. We investigate the potential of imaging spectrometers to break
the continuum confusion limit. We have simulated the capabilities of a
spectrometer with modest field of view (2'x2'), moderate spectral resolution
(R~1-2000) and high sensitivity. We find that such an instrument is capable of
not only detecting line emission from sources with continuum fluxes
substantially below the confusion limit, but also of determining their
redshifts and, where multiple lines are detected, some emission line
diagnostics. We conclude that 3-D imaging spectrometers on cooled far-IR space
telescopes will be powerful new tools for extragalactic far-IR astronomy.Comment: Accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysic
Expression of biopterin transporter (BT1) protein in Leishmania
The present work focuses on the growth phase regulated expression of biopterin transporter gene (BT1) from the LD1 locus on chromosome 35 of Leishmania donovani. Antiserum against recombinant BT1 detected a polypeptide of 45 kDa of equal intensity at lag, log and stationary phases of promastigote growth, both in L. donovani strain LSB-7.1 (MHOM/BL/67/ITMAP263), and strain LSB-146.1 (HOM/IR/95/X81), a natural isolate from Isfehan, Iran that caused cutaneous leishmaniasis. However, in both these strains an additional polypeptide of higher molecular mass (50 kDa) was also observed during lag phase only. In addition, polypeptides of 40, 20, 18 and 16 kDa were seen only during the lag and log phases of both strains. Analysis of L. donovani single, double and triple (null) BT1 knockout mutants confirmed that the 45-kDa polypeptide was the BT1 gene product, as it was absent in the null mutant. These results indicate that 45-kDa BT1 protein in Leishmania is consistently and constitutively expressed in all the growth stages of the parasite
325-MHz observations of the ELAIS-N1 field using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope
We present observations of the European Large-Area {\it ISO} Survey-North 1
(ELAIS-N1) at 325 MHz using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT), with
the ultimate objective of identifying active galactic nuclei and starburst
galaxies and examining their evolution with cosmic epoch. After combining the
data from two different days we have achieved a median rms noise of Jy beam, which is the lowest that has been achieved at this
frequency. We detect 1286 sources with a total flux density above Jy. In this paper, we use our deep radio image to examine the spectral
indices of these sources by comparing our flux density estimates with those of
Garn et al. at 610 MHz with the GMRT, and surveys with the Very Large Array at
1400 MHz. We attempt to identify very steep spectrum sources which are likely
to be either relic sources or high-redshift objects as well as inverted-spectra
objects which could be Giga-Hertz Peaked Spectrum objects. We present the
source counts, and report the possibility of a flattening in the normalized
differential counts at low flux densities which has so far been reported at

The Prevalence and Characteristics of Physical Therapy Pro Bono Services Involving Doctor of Physical Therapy Students
Purpose: The offering of pro bono services has been a historical practice in a number of professions including law and medicine. Medical literature suggests pro bono services provide a vital safety net for individuals who are underinsured or uninsured. Medical students commonly participate in pro bono services, however, little is known about doctor of physical therapy (DPT) student involvement. The purpose of this study was to conduct a survey of physical therapy (PT) programs accredited or in candidacy in the United States to determine the prevalence and characteristics of pro bono services involving DPT students. Method: A 30-item electronic survey was sent to 101 individuals representing accredited or in candidacy PT programs thought to be involved with students in the delivery of PT pro bono services. Data were analyzed using SPSS. Frequency counts and percentages were used to describe prevalence and characteristics of current pro bono services. Results: The response rate was 71.3% with 72 unique institutions completing the survey. Sixty-six institutions reported student involvement in pro bono services and an additional five with plans to start services in the future. The survey yielded data related to institution demographics, general pro bono service characteristics, clinic operations, student leadership, interprofessional interactions and curricular links. Conclusions: Pro bono services involving DPT students are on the rise and the literature points to the importance of PT pro bono services as a rehabilitative safety net and as a creative pedagogy for student professional development. Provision of PT pro bono services may promote public awareness of PT while serving as a catalyst to actualize altruism and social responsibility Core Value expression in DPT students
