Performance of the Fully Digital FPGA-based Front-End Electronics for the GALILEO Array

In this work we present the architecture and results of a fully digital Front End Electronics (FEE) read out system developed for the GALILEO array. The FEE system, developed in collaboration with the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) collaboration, is composed of three main blocks: preamplifiers, digitizers and preprocessing electronics. The slow control system contains a custom Linux driver, a dynamic library and a server implementing network services. The digital processing of the data from the GALILEO germanium detectors has demonstrated the capability to achieve an energy resolution of 1.53 per mil at an energy of 1.33 MeV.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, preprint version of IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science paper submitted for the 19th IEEE Real Time Conferenc

Large scale shell model calculations for odd-odd 5862^{58-62}Mn isotopes

Large scale shell model calculations have been carried out for odd-odd 5862^{58-62}Mn isotopes in two different model spaces. First set of calculations have been carried out in full fp\it{fp} shell valence space with two recently derived fp\it{fp} shell interactions namely GXPF1A and KB3G treating 40^{40}Ca as core. The second set of calculations have been performed in fpg9/2{fpg_{9/2}} valence space with the fpgfpg interaction treating 48^{48}Ca as core and imposing a truncation by allowing up to a total of six particle excitations from the 0f7/2_{7/2} orbital to the upper fp\it{fp} orbitals for protons and from the upper fp\it{fp} orbitals to the 0g9/2_{9/2} orbital for neutron. For low-lying states in 58^{58}Mn, the KB3G and GXPF1A both predicts good results and for 60^{60}Mn, KB3G is much better than GXPF1A. For negative parity and high-spin positive parity states in both isotopes fpgfpg interaction is required. Experimental data on 62^{62}Mn is sparse and therefore it is not possible to make any definite conclusions. More experimental data on negative parity states is needed to ascertain the importance of 0g9/2_{9/2} and higher orbitals in neutron rich Mn isotopes.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, Submitted to Eur. Determination of lifetimes of nuclear excited states using the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift Method in combination with magnetic spectrometers

    Get PDF
The current work presents the determination of lifetimes of nuclear excited states using the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift Method, in combination with spectrometers for ion identification, normalizing the intensity of the peaks by the ions detected in the spectrometer as a valid technique that produces results comparable to the ones obtained by the conventional shifted-to-unsifted peak ratio method. The technique has been validated using data measured with the γ \gamma -ray array AGATA, the PRISMA spectrometer and the Cologne plunger setup. In this paper a test performed with the AGATA-PRISMA setup at LNL and the advantages of this new approach with respect to the conventional Recoil Distance Doppler Shift Method are discussed

Test of a 3He target for transfer reactions in inverse kinematics

    Get PDF
With the aim of studying exotic nuclei close to the proton dripline, an innovative 3He target was produced and tested in a collaboration between the Materials Science Institute of Seville (Spain) and the Legnaro National Laboratories (Italy). The target was manufactured with a new technique that aims to reduce the costs while providing high quality targets. The target was tested at the Legnaro National Laboratories. The results of this test are presented in this contribution

Exploring the performance of the spectrometer prisma in heavy zirconium and xenon mass regions

    Get PDF
We present results from two recent runs which illustrate the performance of the PRISMA spectrometer in the proximity of the upper limit of its operational interval, namely 96Zr + 124Sn at Elab = 500 MeV and 136Xe + 208Pb at Elab = 930 MeV. In the latter run, the γ array CLARA also allowed us to identify previously unknown γ transitions in the nuclides 136Cs and 134I

Recent studies of heavy ion transfer reactions using large solid angle spectrometers

    Get PDF
We present selected results recently obtained in the study of heavy ion transfer reactions at energies close to the Coulomb barrier by employing the large solid angle magnetic spectrometer PRISMA. We discuss the production of neutron-rich heavy nuclei via multinucleon transfer processes and the related effects of secondary processes, in particular nucleon evaporation, studied in a high resolution kinematic coincidence experiment. We also present the recent results in the studies of neutron-neutron correlations for closed shell and superfluid systems

With a new detector setup and the high-resolution performance of the fragment separator FRS at GSI we discovered 57 new isotopes in the atomic number range of 60Z78\leq Z \leq 78: \nuc{159-161}{Nb}, \nuc{160-163}{Pm}, \nuc{163-166}Sm, \nuc{167-168}{Eu}, \nuc{167-171}{Gd}, \nuc{169-171}{Tb}, \nuc{171-174}{Dy}, \nuc{173-176}{Ho}, \nuc{176-178}{Er}, \nuc{178-181}{Tm}, \nuc{183-185}{Yb}, \nuc{187-188}{Lu}, \nuc{191}{Hf}, \nuc{193-194}{Ta}, \nuc{196-197}{W}, \nuc{199-200}{Re}, \nuc{201-203}{Os}, \nuc{204-205}{Ir} and \nuc{206-209}{Pt}. The new isotopes have been unambiguously identified in reactions with a 238^{238}U beam impinging on a Be target at 1 GeV/u. The isotopic production cross-section for the new isotopes have been measured and compared with predictions of different model calculations. In general, the ABRABLA and COFRA models agree better than a factor of two with the new data, whereas the semiempirical EPAX model deviates much more. Projectile fragmentation is the dominant reaction creating the new isotopes, whereas fission contributes significantly only up to about the element holmium.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure

Observations of the Gamow-Teller resonance in the rare-earth nuclei above Gd 146 populated in β decay

13 págs.; 11 figs. ; 1 tab.The rare-earth region of the nuclear table around the quasi-doubly magic nucleus Gd146 is one of the very few places in which the Gamow-Teller (GT) resonance can be populated in β decay. The appropriate technique to study such a phenomenon is total absorption spectroscopy, thanks to which one can measure the B(GT) distribution in β-decay experiments even when it is very fragmented and lies at high excitation energy in the daughter nucleus. Results on the GT resonance measured in the β decay of the odd-Z, N=83 nuclei Tb148, Ho150, and Tm152 are presented in this work and compared with shell-model calculations. The tail of the resonance is clearly observed up to the limit imposed by the Q value. This observation is important in the context of the understanding of the >quenching> of the GT strength. ©2016 American Physical SocietyThe authors would like to thank the GSI accelerator crew and the MSEP group for their support. Cirugía de las metástasis suprarrenales

    Get PDF
