    Staying Gold: How a group of university students created intergenerational connections through art museum programming and community collaboration

    In this article, we examine ways in which an intergenerational art program, Stay Gold, helped build relationships between queer youth and elders in an art museum to combat loneliness, isolation, and disconnection. This museum program was initially designed by university students in a graduate art education course to help form connections between queer youth and elders through art-making, sharing stories, and conversations about art. Participants play a large role in shaping the direction of the program, and the program continues to grow and evolve to include more opportunities for collaboration between youth and elders through group projects and dialogue. Although this is not a formal study with IRB approval, the participants mentioned here are all over the age of 18 and gave written permission to use their words and art in the article

    Disrupting Art Museum Experiences: Interventions in a University Art Museum

    In this paper, graduate students in an art education course and their instructor share a project created in response to an exhibition focused on themes of food in their university art museum. Students worked in groups to create interventions designed to offer alternative ways to engage with works of art through experimentation, sensory experiences, participatory practices, and humor. These interventions expand the ways visitors can approach works of art and give openings for participants to include their own voices in the exhibition. They also illustrate the potential for university art museums serve as laboratories on campus that challenge traditional authoritative museum practices and question whose voices are included in museum exhibitions

    A Dutch guideline for the treatment of scoliosis in neuromuscular disorders

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Children with neuromuscular disorders with a progressive muscle weakness such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Spinal Muscular Atrophy frequently develop a progressive scoliosis. A severe scoliosis compromises respiratory function and makes sitting more difficult. Spinal surgery is considered the primary treatment option for correcting severe scoliosis in neuromuscular disorders. Surgery in this population requires a multidisciplinary approach, careful planning, dedicated surgical procedures, and specialized after care.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The guideline is based on scientific evidence and expert opinions. A multidisciplinary working group representing experts from all relevant specialties performed the research. A literature search was conducted to collect scientific evidence in answer to specific questions posed by the working group. Literature was classified according to the level of evidence.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>For most aspects of the treatment scientific evidence is scarce and only low level cohort studies were found. Nevertheless, a high degree of consensus was reached about the management of patients with scoliosis in neuromuscular disorders. This was translated into a set of recommendations, which are now officially accepted as a general guideline in the Netherlands.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>In order to optimize the treatment for scoliosis in neuromuscular disorders a Dutch guideline has been composed. This evidence-based, multidisciplinary guideline addresses conservative treatment, the preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative care of scoliosis in neuromuscular disorders.</p

    This research aims to determine whether postgraduate studies improve the quality of life of graduates. A university in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador was selected. First the main concepts of quality of life and the related variables and indicators are analyzed; these include socioeconomic status, personal and professional development, security, acquisition of material goods, among others. Furthermore consideration is given to the close relationship between quality of life and education. Subsequently three hypotheses are proposed containing the variables which should be analyzed: personal development, level of income and expenditure of graduates. It is concluded that having a Master’s degree of improves quality of life; this can be seen in factors such as professional development, the increase in income and outgoings, as well as other important indicators

    El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como propósito determinar si los estudios de Postgrado mejoran la calidad de vida de sus graduados, para lo cual se consideró una universidad en la ciudad de Guayaquil, Ecuador. En primer lugar se estudian tanto los principales conceptos de calidad de vida como sus variables e indicadores tales como: nivel socioeconómico, desarrollo personal y profesional, seguridad, adquisición de bienes materiales, entre otros. Además, se menciona la relación estrecha que existe entre calidad de vida y educación. Posteriormente, se plantean tres hipótesis que contienen las variables a analizar: desarrollo personal, nivel de ingresos y nivel de gastos de los graduados. Se concluye que contar con un título de Magister mejora la calidad de vida, esto se evidencia en factores como el desarrollo profesional, el incremento en los ingresos económicos y el aumento de gastos, sin excluir otros indicadores que también influyen. AbstractThis research aims to determine whether postgraduate studies improve the quality of life of graduates.
