Morphology of Lipari offshore (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea)
High-resolution multibeam bathymetry was recently collected around Lipari, the largest and
most densely populated island of the Aeolian Archipelago (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea). The
data were acquired within the context of marine geological studies performed in the area
over the last 10 years. We present the first detailed morphological map of the Lipari
offshore at 1:100,000 scale (Main Map). A rugged morphology characterizes the submarine
portions of Lipari volcano, reflecting both volcanic and erosive-depositional processes. The
volcanic features include cones, lava flows and bedrock outcrops. Erosive-depositional
features include an insular shelf topped by submarine depositional terraces related to LateQuaternary
sea-level fluctuations, as well as landslide scars, channelized features, fanshaped
deposits and wavy bedforms. The different distribution of volcanic and erosivedepositional
features on the various sectors of Lipari is mainly related to the older age of the
western flank with respect to the eastern one. The map also provides insights for a first
marine geohazard assessment of this active volcanic area
Total thyroidectomy associated to chemotherapy in primary squamous cell carcinoma of the thyroid
Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the thyroid (PSCCT) is a rare malignant disease with rapid fatal prognosis. The onset is generally characterized by sudden bilateral latero-cervical lymphadenopathy. The Authors report patient of 58-year-old who referred for evaluation of rapidly aggravating bilateral latero-cervical lymphadenopathy. The US highlighted the presence of a hypoechoic nodular lesion characterized by peri and intra-nodular vascularization. Multilayer CT showed diffused involvement of mediastinal and bilateral latero-cervical lymph nodes, with no evidence of primary pulmonary neoplasia or elsewhere. The patient underwent total thyroidectomy. The peri-isthmic tissue was removed due to the presence of a small roundish formation, that was due to lymph node metastasis at histological examination. Histological diagnosis: PSCCT. The immunohistochemical panel of the thyroid lesion was indispensable for the differential diagnosis between PSCCT, medullary carcinoma, anaplastic carcinoma, and thyroid metastasis of neoplasia with unknown primitiveness. The patient underwent chemotherapeutic treatment with Carboplatin and Paclitaxel with modest improvement of dysphagia symptoms and reduction of 10-15% of the target lesions. The clinical course was characterized by loco-regional progression of the disease with exitus in 10 months after diagnosis. Survival and quality of life after surgical therapy and chemotherapy were like that of patients undergoing only chemotherapy. Due to the extreme rarity of the neoplasia, 60 cases described in Literature, no exclusive guidelines are reported for PSCCT. More extensive case studies are needed to evaluate the effects of total thyroidectomy with intent R0/R1 on improving survival and quality of life of patients with PSCCT

Nod2 Deficiency in mice is Associated with Microbiota Variation Favouring the Expansion of mucosal CD4+ LAP+ Regulatory Cells
Nucleotide-binding Oligomerization Domain-2 (NOD2) mutations are associated with an increased risk to develop Crohn's Disease. In previous studies, we have shown that Nod2-/- mice manifest increased proportion of Lamina Propria (LP) CD4+ LAP+ Foxp3- regulatory cells, when compared with Nod2+/+ mice, while CD4+ Foxp3 + regulatory cells were not affected. Here, we investigated the Nod2 gut microbiota, by 16S rRNA pyrosequencing, at steady state and after TNBS-colitis induction in mice reared separately or in cohousing, correlating the microbial profiles with LP regulatory T cells proportion and tissue cytokines content. We found that enrichment of Rikenella and Alistipes (Rikenellaceae) in Nod2-/- mice at 8 weeks of age reared separately was associated with increased proportion of CD4+ LAP+ Foxp3- cells and less severe TNBS-colitis. In co-housed mice the acquisition of Rickenellaceae by Nod2+/+ mice was associated with increased CD4+ LAP+ Foxp3- proportion and less severe colitis. Severe colitis was associated with enrichment of gram-negative pathobionts (Escherichia and Enterococcus), while less severe colitis with protective bacteria (Barnesiella, Odoribacter and Clostridium IV). Environmental factors acting on genetic background with different outcomes according to their impact on microbiota, predispose in different ways to inflammation. These results open a new scenario for therapeutic attempt to re-establish eubiosis in Inflammatory Bowel Disease patients with NOD2 polymorphisms
On the Inner Horizon Instability of Non-Singular Black Holes
Regular black holes represent a conservative model in which the classical singularity is replaced by a non-singular core without necessarily modifying the spacetime outside the trapping horizon. Given the possible lack of phenomenological signatures, it is crucial to study the consistency of the model. In this short work, we review the physical mechanism leading to the instability of the central core, arguing that that non-perturbative backreation is non-negligible and must be taken into account to provide a meaningful description of physical black holes
Inner horizon instability and the unstable cores of regular black holes
Regular black holes with nonsingular cores have been considered in several approaches to quantum gravity, and as agnostic frameworks to address the singularity problem and Hawking’s information paradox. While in a recent work we argued that the inner core is destabilized by linear perturbations, opposite claims were raised that regular black holes have in fact stable cores. To reconcile these arguments, we discuss a generalization of the geometrical framework, originally applied to Reissner-Nordtsröm black holes by Ori, and show that regular black holes have an exponentially growing Misner-Sharp mass at the inner horizon. This result can be taken as an indication that stable nonsingular black hole spacetimes are not the definitive endpoint of a quantum gravity regularization mechanism, and that nonperturbative backreation effects must be taken into account in order to provide a consistent description of the quantum-gravitational endpoint of gravitational stellar collapse
Comment on "regular evaporating black holes with stable cores"
Regular black holes are generically unstable because of the classical phenomenon that goes by the name of "mass inflation"which destabilizes the inner horizon. In a recent article, [A. Bonanno, A.-P. Khosravi, and F. Saueressig, Phys. Rev. D 107, 024005 (2023)PRVDAQ2470-001010.1103/PhysRevD.107.024005], it is argued that semiclassical effects due to Hawking radiation can cure this instability, and some concerns are raised against the validity of previous analyses showing its existence in the first place. In this short comment, we explain our reservations regarding these recent claims, and reiterate the relevance of the mass inflation instability for regular black holes of astrophysical interest
