    (1) This study describes the good evolution of a 6-year-old girl genetically diagnosed (R106X) with Rett syndrome (RTT), after having been treated with IGF-I, melatonin (MT), blackcurrant extracts (BC) and rehabilitated for 6 months. (2) The patient stopped normal development in the first year of age. The patient showed short stature and weight and fulfilled the main criteria for typical RTT. Despite her young age, there was pubic hair (Tanner II), very high plasma testosterone, and low levels of plasma gonadotrophins. There were no adrenal enzymatic deficits, and abdominal ultrasound studies were normal. The treatment consisted of IGF-I (0.04 mg/kg/day, 5 days/week, subcutaneous (sc)) for 3 months and then 15 days of rest, MT (50 mg/day, orally, without interruption) and neurorehabilitation. A new blood test, after 3 months of treatment, was absolutely normal and the pubic hair disappeared (Tanner I). Then, a new treatment was started with IGF-I, MT, and BC for another 3 months. In this period, the degree of pubertal development increased to Tanner III (pubic level), without a known cause. (3) The treatment followed led to clear improvements in most of the initial abnormalities, perhaps due to the neurotrophic effect of IGF-I, the antioxidant effects of MT and BC, and the cerebral increase in the cyclic glycine-proline (cGP) achieved with administration of BC. (4) A continuous treatment with IGF-I, MT, and BC appears to be useful in RTTS

Recovery from neurological sequelae secondary to oncological brain surgery in an adult growth hormone-deficient patient after growth hormone treatment

[Abstract] Objective: To report an unusual case of significant neurological recovery in a 26-year-old growth hormone-deficient female patient with significant neurological sequelae resulting from brain surgery at 11 years of age. Design: Case report. Results: Most of the neurological sequelae present at admission recovered after 8 months of combined growth hormone administration and kinesitherapy/speech therapy. These include an increase in tongue size and mobility and in the amount and quality of saliva, improvement in vocal cords function, recovery of oesophageal peristalsis and disappearance of sleep apnoea. Conclusion: Since the patient had undergone intensive physical rehabilitation for a 15-year period with no significant improvement, it is tempting to speculate that the correction of growth hormone deficiency improved her rehabilitation. Therefore, we propose that growth hormone treatment, combined with the adequate kinesitherapy, may be a useful therapy for effective recovery from some neurological deficits in patients with growth hormone deficiency

Trichogaliopsis (Lange) Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa, Galium sect. Galium ser. Andalusiana Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa, Galium sect. Platygalium ser. Platygalium (DC.) Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa, Galium sect. Platygalium ser. Ephedrogalium Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa y Galium sect. Leiogalium ser. Pulchra Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa. (Galium sect. Leptogalium Lange) se describe una nueva variedad: Galium idubedae var. humile C. Vicioso ex Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa

A taxonomic study of the genus Galium has shown the presence of 51 species and 14 subspecies in Flora Iberica. Ephedrogalium only comprises G. ephedroides, a species where a study of the foliar anatomy has been carried. Its leaves show three nerves and that character justifies its inclusion into section Platygalium. Also, a new variety is described in G. idubedae (Pau ex Debeaux) Pau ex Ehrend. (Galium sect. Leptogalium Lange): Galium idubedae var. humile C. Vicioso ex Ortega-Olivencia & DevesaSobre el tratamiento de Galium L. (Rubiaceae) en Flora Iberica. El estudio morfológico comparado de Scrophularia schousboei Lange y S. sublyrata Brot. ha puesto de manifiesto que la variabilidad morfológica indicada para S. schousboei corresponde en realidad a la observable en plantas jóvenes o de primer año de S. sublyrata, por lo que se deduce que ambos nombres han sido aplicados a plantas de la misma especie pero de distinta edad, debiéndose denominar el taxon como S. syblyrata Brot., por ser este el epíteto disponible más antiguoComparative study of plant morphology and life cycle of both Srophularia schousboei Lange and S. sublyrata Brot. shows that the first taxon was described by Lange using young plants of S. sublyrata Brot. So, only S. sublyrata is recognized and S. schousboei must be included in synonymy
