Dr Deverell explored the potential for video art to move past documentary into post-documentary. The research considered how established conventions in documentary practice are being contested and expanded with the growing dispersal and dissipation of audio-visual culture, and how traditional notions of truth and reality are being challenged

    The dualism of disorder

The Dualism of Order has revealed the need of ‘the other’ in design. Design can create both space and place, order and disorder. Through design we can create the structures for participation that enable a position of the weak from which the personal and the subjective can be explored. By creating space for exploration we find alternate representations of our world and society, a world that dissolves the myth of truth set through the acquisition of power. This enables us to reengage and re-discover ours and other’s worlds. Through flux we can move from positions of stablity to instability. Being stable and unstable simultaneously creates places of location and dislocation respectively. It is through being located and dislocated at the same time that we engage with the world around us and the world within. We encounter a world of experience that becomes a meld of our cognitive make-up and the cognitive make-up of others. Through this dualistic realm of engagement we dethrone the singular and the pure. We prompt the collective.&nbsp

Creativity is nowadays seen as an essential feature in higher education. Nevertheless, there is a discrepancy between the need for creativity and what higher education classrooms provide. This study assessed the perceptions of 1599 higher education students from two countries (1059 Brazilian and 540 Portuguese students), from two academic domains (Sciences and Technologies – Sc&T; Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities – SScA&H), about the presence of creativity in their teachers’ instruction and evaluation practices. The study’s findings evidence interactive effects between the variables country and academic domain for most of the assessed factors: encouragement of new ideas, climate for the expression of ideas, and interest in students’ learning. Brazilian Sc&T students presented more negative perceptions of their classroom environments when compared to SScA&H students; Portuguese students showed opposite patterns of results. Some hypothetical explanations are discussed and future directions for research are presented. WEB 2.0 in Support of Sketching in Architectural Practice

This position paper describes Scribblr, a web-based system to support remote, shared annotation of architectural images and plans. The paper describes the current work practice of our clients, a large engineering firm in collaboration with an architect in another country. In particular we are concerned with sketching activities which are important in their work. We describe how, by employing Web-2.0 technologies in the development of Scribblr, we have been able to meet the requirements of a traditional paper-based sketching environment, and indeed to add new capabilities. The paper describes the rationale behind our application of modern Web technologies in this prototype

SCRIBBLR: back to the future of visual documentation mark-up

This paper describes our approach to the design of Scribbr; an internet based tool to support mark-up of images in the course of creative work. The mark-up which may be textual or freeform sketches, forms a conversation between remote collaborators which is archived and can be revisited at a later date
