La villa gallo-romaine de Fréthun

The Gallo-Roman villa situated in Fréthun appears to have been a small farming facility as only two buildings were made out. The dwelling-place, built at the Flavian period on a site probably already occupied, is the very example of a villa with a porch-façade. If the baths, added in the Ilnd century at the back of the house, testify of many alteration phases, the living quarters underwent but very few transformations. At a probably later date, a facility, of the «drying-place» type, was designed in front of the porch. The B-building also featured a structure of this type. Het woongebouw dat tijdens de Flavische période op een waarschijnlijk reeds bewoonde site opgetrokken werd is het typevoorbeeld van een villa met gevelgalerij. In de tweede eeuw werden achter het huis baden bijgebouwd, die vaak herbouwd werden in tegenstelling tot de woonvertrek- ken die vrijwel niet veranderd werden. Tijdens een latere période werd voor de galerij een soort drogerij ingericht. In gebouw B vond men zo nog een installatie.
