    Global burden, trends, and inequalities of ischemic heart disease among young adults from 1990 to 2019: a population-based study

    BackgroundIschemic heart disease (IHD) is a major global health concern, and its burden among young adults aged 25–49 years remains underexplored. This study aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of the global burden and trends of IHD over the past 30 years (1990–2019) among this age group, as well as to analyze the health inequalities related to socioeconomic development.MethodsData from Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 (GBD 2019) were utilized to analyze the prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) rate of IHD among young adults globally. Joinpoint regression analysis was applied to examine the trends over the study period. Health inequality analysis was performed to investigate the disparities in IHD burden related to the Socio-Demographic Index (SDI) of countries.ResultsAccording to GBD 2019 data, in 2019, the global numbers of young adults with IHD cases, deaths, and DALYs were 18,050,671 (95% UI, 15,551,940–21,254,746), 597,137 (548,250–647,778), and 28,692,968 (26,397,448–31,178,464), respectively, accounting for 9.15%, 6.53%, and 15.7% of the total global cases. Over the past 30 years, the mortality [AAPC = −0.4%, 95% CI (−0.7% to −0.1%)] and DALYs rate [AAPC = −0.3%, 95% CI (−0.6% to −0.1%)] of IHD among young adults decreased, while the prevalence rate [AAPC = 0.4%, 95% CI (0.4%–0.4%)] and YLDs rate [AAPC = 0.4%, 95% CI (0.3%–0.4%)] increased. Furthermore, countries with lower levels of socio-demographic index (SDI) disproportionately bore a higher burden of IHD among young adults. The inequality slope index for young adult IHD shifted from −56.6 [95% CI (−480.4–370.2)] in 1990 to −583.0 [95% CI (−996.8 to −169.2)] in 2019, and the concentration index moved from −8.2 [95% CI (−8.5 to −7.9)] in 1990 to −13.2 [95% CI (−13.9 to −12.4)] in 2019.ConclusionsWhile the mortality and DALYs rate of IHD among global young adults have decreased over the past 30 years, the degree of inequality related to SDI among countries has continued to increase. Decision-makers in various countries should allocate resources wisely and implement effective strategies to improve the burden of young adults IHD globally and address the health inequalities associated with it

    Preparation of Ag/HBP/PAN Nanofiber Web and Its Antimicrobial and Filtration Property

    To widen the application of nanofibers web in the field of medical health materials, a new Ag/amino-terminated hyperbranched polymer (HBP)/polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofiber web with excellent antimicrobial activity and filtration property was produced with Ag/HBP dispersion solution and PAN nanofiber. Ag/HBP dispersion solution was prepared with HBP as reducer and stabilizer, and Ag/HBP/PAN nanofiber was prepared by modifying electrospun PAN nanofiber with Ag/HBP aqueous solution. The characterization results showed that spherical Ag nanoparticles were prepared and they had a narrow distribution in HBP aqueous solution. The results of Ag/HBP/PAN nanofiber characterized with SEM and EDS showed that the content of silver nanoparticles on the surface of PAN nanofiber was on the increase when the treating temperature rose. The bacterial reduction rates of HBP-treated PAN nanofiber against S. aureus and E. coli were about 89%, while those of the Ag/HBP/PAN nanofiber against S. aureus and E. coli were 99.9% and 99.96%, respectively, due to the cooperative effects from the amino groups in HBP and Ag nanoparticles. Moreover, the small pores and high porosity in Ag/HBP/PAN nanofiber web resulted in high filtration efficiency (99.9%) for removing smaller particles (0.1 μm~0.7 μm), which was much higher than that of the gauze mask

    Enhanced Responsivity of Photodetectors Realized via Impact Ionization

    To increase the responsivity is one of the vital issues for a photodetector. By employing ZnO as a representative material of ultraviolet photodetectors and Si as a representative material of visible photodetectors, an impact ionization process, in which additional carriers can be generated in an insulating layer at a relatively large electric field, has been employed to increase the responsivity of a semiconductor photodetector. It is found that the responsivity of the photodetectors can be enhanced by tens of times via this impact ionization process. The results reported in this paper provide a general route to enhance the responsivity of a photodetector, thus may represent a step towards high-performance photodetectors

    A Unified Description of Cuprate and Iron Arsenide Superconductors

    We propose a unified description of cuprate and iron-based superconductivity. Consistency with magnetic structure inferred from neutron scattering implies significant constraints on the symmetry of the pairing gap for the iron-based superconductors. We find that this unification requires the orbital pairing formfactors for the iron arsenides to differ fundamentally from those for cuprates at the microscopic level.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures, 2 table

    DESI and DECaLS (D&D): galaxy–galaxy lensing measurements with 1 per cent survey and its forecast

    The shear measurement from the Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey (DECaLS) provides an excellent opportunity for galaxy-galaxy lensing study with the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) galaxies, given the large (∼9000 deg2) sky overlap. We explore this potential by combining the DESI 1 per cent survey and DECaLS Data Release 8 (DR8). With ∼106 deg2 sky overlap, we achieve significant detection of galaxy-galaxy lensing for Bright Galaxy Survey (BGS) and luminous red galaxy (LRG) as lenses. Scaled to the full BGS sample, we expect the statistical errors to improve from to a promising level of at. This brings stronger requirements for future systematics control. To fully realize such potential, we need to control the residual multiplicative shear bias |m| < 0.006 and the bias in the mean redshift |Δz| < 0.008, requiring the introduced bias in the measurement is <0.31σ. We also expect significant detection of galaxy-galaxy lensing with DESI LRG/emission line galaxy (ELG) full samples as lenses, and cosmic magnification of ELG through cross-correlation with low-redshift DECaLS shear. If such systematical error control can be achieved, we find the advantages of DECaLS, comparing with the Kilo Degree Survey (KiDS) and the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC), are at low redshift, large scale, and in measuring the shear ratio (to σR ∼0.04) and cosmic magnification

    Factors associated with fatigue among men aged 45 and older: A cross-sectional study

    Background and Purpose: Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms reported in several studies; but few studies have concentrated on the male population, especially for the middle-aged and older men who are exposed to greater fatigue risk. The purpose of this study was to explore the prevalence of fatigue and identify the risk factors of fatigue among men aged 45 and older in China. Methods: This study was part of a cross-sectional study on community health in Shunde (Guangdong Province, China). A total sample of 1158 men aged 45 and older were included. Sociodemographic characteristics, health and lifestyle factors and the Chalder Fatigue Scale (CFS) were measured by structured questionnaires through face-to-face interviews. Multivariate logistic regression was applied to determine the risk factors of fatigue. Results: Approximately 30% of participants experienced fatigue. Older age (≥75 years: adjusted OR 3.88, 95% CI 2.09–7.18), single marital status (1.94, 1.04–3.62), unemployed status (1.68, 1.16–2.43), number of self-reported chronic diseases (≥2 chronic diseases: 2.83, 1.86–4.31), number of individuals’ children (≥4 children: 2.35, 1.33–4.15), hospitalization in the last year (1.61, 1.03–2.52) were all significantly associated with increased risk of fatigue, while regular exercise (0.46, 0.32–0.65) was a protective factor against fatigue. Conclusions: Fatigue was usual in males and several factors were associated with the fatigue. These findings may have implication in risk assessment of fatigue and help in developing and implementing targeted interventions in middle-aged and elderly males.This study was supported by the Guangzhou 121 Talents Program.     Measurements of psi(2S) decays to octet baryon-antibaryon pairs

    With a sample of 14 million psi(2S) events collected by the BESII detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC), the decay channels psi(2S)->p p-bar, Lambda Lambda-bar, Sigma0 Sigma0-bar, Xi Xi-bar are measured, and their branching ratios are determined to be (3.36+-0.09+-0.24)*10E-4, (3.39+-0.20+-0.32)*10E-4, (2.35+-0.36+-0.32)*10E-4, (3.03+-0.40+-0.32)*10E-4, respectively. In the decay psi(2S)->p p-bar, the angular distribution parameter alpha is determined to be 0.82+-0.17+-0.04.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure

    Fabrication and characterisation of electrospun silk fibroin/gelatin scaffolds crosslinked with glutaraldehyde vapour

    Bombyx mori silk fibroin (SF) /gelatin nanofibre mats with different blend ratios of 100/0, 90/10 and 70/30 were prepared by electrospinning and crosslinked with glutaraldehyde (GTA) vapour at room temperature. GTA was shown to induce the conformational transition of SFs from random coils to β-sheets along with increasing nanofibre diameters with the addition of gelatin into SFs. It was found that by increasing the gelatin content, crosslinking degree was enhanced from 34% for pure SF nanofibre mats to 43% for SF/gelatin counterparts at the blend ratio of 70/30, which directly affected mechanical properties, porosity, and water uptake capacity (WUC) of prepared nanofibre mats. The addition of 10 and 30 wt% gelatin into SFs improved tensile strengths of SF/gelatin nanofibre mats by 10 and 27% along with significant increases in Young’s modulus by 1.1 and 1.3 times, respectively, as opposed to plain SF counterparts. However, both porosity and WUC were found to decrease from 62 and 405% for pristine SF nanofibre mats to 47% and 232% for SF/gelatin counterparts at the blend ratio of 70/30 accordingly. To further evaluate the combined effect of GTA crosslinking and gelatin content on biological response of SF/gelatin scaffolds, the proliferation assay using 3T3 mouse fibroblast was conducted. In comparison with pure SFs, cell proliferation rate was lower for SF/gelatin constructs, which declined when the gelatin content increased. These results indicated that the adverse effect of GTA crosslinking on cell response may be ascribed to imposed changes in morphology and physiochemical properties of SF/gelatin nanofibre mats. Although crosslinking could be used to improve mechanical properties of nanofibre mats, it reduced their capacity to support the cell activity. GTA optimisation is required to further modulate the physico-chemical properties of SF/gelatin nanofibre mats in order to obtain stable materials with favourable bioactive properties and promote cellular responses for tissue engineering applications

    Search for the decay J/ψ→γ+invisibleJ/\psi\to\gamma + \rm {invisible}

    We search for J/ψJ/\psi radiative decays into a weakly interacting neutral particle, namely an invisible particle, using the J/ψJ/\psi produced through the process ψ(3686)→π+π−J/ψ\psi(3686)\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi in a data sample of (448.1±2.9)×106(448.1\pm2.9)\times 10^6 ψ(3686)\psi(3686) decays collected by the BESIII detector at BEPCII. No significant signal is observed. Using a modified frequentist method, upper limits on the branching fractions are set under different assumptions of invisible particle masses up to 1.2  GeV/c2\mathrm{\ Ge\kern -0.1em V}/c^2. The upper limit corresponding to an invisible particle with zero mass is 7.0×10−7\times 10^{-7} at the 90\% confidence level
