Implications of the U.S. Farm Act on Canadian Agriculture

This paper addresses the implications of the U.S. Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 or "Farm Act" for Canadian agriculture. The Farm Act, which is expected to add at least US $45 billion in new price supports over its six-year timeframe, is expected to harm the position of less-subsidized and non-subsidized producers in Canada and other countries. Canadian farm products will be less competitive not only domestically, but also in the U.S. and in third-country markets. Canada will be most affected by subsidies for corn, soybeans, wheat, and pulse crops. New country-of-origin labeling rules under the Farm Act are also expected to be disruptive to Canadian livestock exports. Mercadeo : Decisiones sobre el diseño de producto como ventaja competitiva

Al elaborar un producto se deben tomar diferentes decisiones en cuanto al diseño del mismo como; los atributos, seleccionar las funciones, el empaque, el etiquetado, las garantías, el servicio y el nombre de la marca que ayudarán a la entrega de los beneficios buscados del producto por el mercado objetivo. Ya que cada una de estas decisiones si se realizan como es debido proporcionarán al producto en concreto una ventaja competitiva en el mercado que se pretende penetrar. El mercadólogo debe conocer detalladamente todo lo referente al producto, y tomar las decisiones correctas al crear un producto adaptándolo a los deseos de los consumidores, desde los atributos y beneficios, la calidad, los niveles que se aplican en el producto, si será un producto de consumo o industrial y las diferentes etapas por las que pasa el producto durante su ciclo de vida, con el fin de crear un producto con ventaja competitiva ante los demás productos del mercado. Por esto en un mercado de competencia y diversidad se tiene que aprender del ingenio y la creatividad e innovar ideas que den como resultado cambios a favor del beneficio de los consumidores y la empresa. Por ende se tiene que hacer uso eficiente del diseño del producto, etiquetado, el servició, una marca que sea llamativa y fácil de posicionarse en la mente del consumidor, así como elegir un empaque apropiado que proteja al producto y que lo haga fácil de usar y transportar permitiendo tener resultados efectivos que nos ayudaran a crecer y triunfar en el mercado competitivo. Sistema Contable en la Cooperativa de Servicios Múltiples Hermanos Rivas, R.L (COOSEMHER, R.L), del Municipio de San Isidro, Departamento de Matagalpa, en el I Semestre del año 2013

La temática abordada es Sistema Contable en la Cooperativa de Servicios Múltiples Hermanos Rivas, R.L (COOSEMHER, R.L), tiene como propósito esencial evaluar el Sistema Contable en dicha organización, con el objeto de proponer un Catálogo de Cuentas con su respectivo Instructivo y un Manual de Funciones, que permitan garantizar a través de su aplicación un Sistema Contable adecuado a sus operaciones. El tema de investigación resulta de importancia precisamente porque en la actualidad todas las personas encargadas de la dirección en las distintas organizaciones y especialmente en las Cooperativas, necesitan implementar el conjunto de métodos y procedimientos por los que está constituido todo Sistema Contable, para obtener la información de manera cronológica y ordenada y pueda servir de base para la toma de decisiones. Cabe señalar que a través de los resultados obtenidos, se pudo comprobar que actualmente la Cooperativa en estudio no cuenta con un Sistema Contable y que el registro de sus operaciones solamente se lleva de una manera informal, lo que representa una desventaja al no poder determinar contablemente los resultados del periodo. Para dar respuesta a estas deficiencias se elaboró una propuesta de Catálogo de Cuentas e Instructivo y un Manual de Funciones, tomando en consideración el giro o actividad a la que dicha organización se dedica y la estructura organizacional que actualmente presenta, de tal manera que puedan obtener las herramientas necesarias para llevar a cabo sus funciones de una forma eficiente y ordenad

Rules on Disclosure and Enforcement in the Philippines

The Philippines modeled its first securities laws on the U.S. Uniform Sales of Securities Act, Securities Act of 1933, and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. In terms of disclosure requirements, the early Philippine laws were more lenient than the U.S. acts, but since 1982 the Philippines has improved its disclosure requirements by implementing its Revised Securities Act. The new Act imposes more consistent reporting rules on issuers and insiders, and levies a broad range of sanctions. Nonetheless, the Revised Securities Act could be improved further by requiring fuller disclosure during registration and by toughening the insider trading provisions. Also, the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission could rely more heavily on the Stock Exchange to assist in enforcing the disclosure requirements

Transcriptional changes and regulation of voltage gated calcium channels across human stem cell differentiation

Human neural development comprises a phase during which a risk for psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia is established. Robust evidence has linked voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs) to psychiatric illness. However, the biology of VGCCs in the context of human neural development, and particularly the prenatal stages, has not been sufficiently studied. This thesis examines the transcriptional regulation of VGCCs in a model system of neural development, the differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) into neurons. By applying bioinformatics tools to hiPSC and hiPSC-derived neuron data from dozens of donors, I characterized changes in the abundance and splicing of VGCCs across hiPSC differentiation into neurons. Additionally, motif-based bioinformatics tools were applied to identify candidate regulators of VGCC splicing and abundance. The analyses revealed that as hiPSCs differentiate into neurons, VGCC transcript levels robustly increase. The alternative splicing of CACNA1C, CACNA2D1, and CACNA2D2, including a cell state-specific switch in the utilization of Exons 21 and 22 in CACNA1C, were identified. Analyzing the regions of interest using two different bioinformatics tools identified a binding site for BRUNOL4 and BRUNOL5 upstream of CACNA1C Exon 21, which showed neither evolutionary conservation nor acceleration; and a binding site for HNRNPL near CACNA2D2 Exon 26 showing evolutionary acceleration in primates. Finally, transcription factor (TF) footprinting analyses of ATAC-seq data identified candidate TFs that might regulate multiple VGCC loci, several of which are expressed more highly in human fetal compared with postnatal brain development, including KLF7 and TCF4. Altogether, the results provide a foundation for future research investigating the functions of the identified RBPs and TFs in VGCC transcriptional regulation. The findings also indicate that hiPSCs possess the potential for providing insights into the changes that occur in VGCC transcription and putative mechanisms of VGCC regulation in human neural development and different cell states

Unexpected Agreement in Spanish Revisited

Verbal agreement in Spanish is materialized as the rightmost morpheme on a verb. When enclitics attach, the expected order is: verbal base + Agr + CL(itic): hága-nAGR-loCL ?Do it!?. Nevertheless, in non-standard Spanish, verbal agreement can appear at the right of the clitic, giving rise to what has been named unexpected agreement: haga-nAGR-loCL-nAGR or haga -loCL-nAGR ?Do it!?. This squib presents and discusses different pieces of data related to unexpected agreement in order to provide some generalizations missed in previous approaches to this topic.
