Software Production, Human Capital and Endogenous Growth: Theoretical Analysis and Empirical Evidence from India
Propelled by the rise of a vibrant software industry the Indian economy has demonstrated rapid growth since the 1990s. A novel three-sector endogenous growth model that encapsulates the salient features of an information technology oriented economy is developed. The dynamic optimization problem leads to a balanced growth path equilibrium characterized by output, physical capital, software assets, human capital and consumption growing at a uniform rate. Major implications of the model are reflected in empirical evidence from the growth trajectories of Indian states. The human capital production apparatus has a significant impact on economic growth. An adaptive directed query dissemination scheme for wireless sensor networks
This paper describes a directed query dissemination scheme, DirQ that routes queries to the appropriate source nodes based on both constant and dynamic-valued attributes such as sensor types and sensor values. Unlike certain other query dissemination schemes, location information is not essential for the operation of DirQ. DirQ uses only locally available information in order to route queries accurately. Nodes running DirQ are able to adapt autonomously to changes in network topology due to certain cross-layer features that allow it to exchange information with the underlying MAC protocol. DirQ allows nodes to autonomously control the rate of sending update messages in order to keep the routing information updated. The rate of sending updates is dependent on both the number of queries injected into the network and the rate of variation of the measured physical parameter. Our results show that DirQ spends between 45% and 55% the cost of flooding
Using Neural Networks for Pattern Association for the Online Purchase of Products
Abstract: Today, a huge percentage of all the business transactions that take place in the domain of e-commerce are dominated by online shopping after the virtual market conceptualization of the business. This paper focuses on how pattern association rules may be obtained from the dynamic databases generated during purchases in an e-Store to maximize the profit of the marketer. In this paper, ANN has been used as a tool for generating pattern association rules during online purchases of products to aid the cross-selling of products. For getting the rules, a methodology using artificial neural networks has been adapted for usage using an extended Delta rule for initial training of the network and a hetero-associative neural network for generating and storing the associative rules. Also, a methodology has been proposed to filter out all rules which do not add economic value to the firm and then select that rule which will meet the profit maximization objective of the marketer
Electronic transport through a parallel--coupled triple quantum dot molecule: Fano resonances and bound states in the continuum
The electronic transport through a triple quantum dot molecule attached in
parallel to leads in presence of a magnetic flux is studied. Analytical
expressions of the linear conductance and density of states for the molecule in
equilibrium at zero temperature are obtained. As a consequence of quantum
interference, the conductance exhibits in general a Breit--Wigner and two Fano
resonances, the positions and widths of which are controlled by the magnetic
field. Every two flux quanta, there is an inversion of roles of the bonding and
antibonding states. For particular values of the magnetic flux and dot-lead
couplings, one or even both Fano resonances collapse and bound states in the
continuum (BIC's) are formed. The line broadenings of the molecular states are
examined as a function of the Aharonov--Bohm phase around the condition for the
formation of BIC's, finding resonances extremely narrow and robust against
variations of the magnetic field.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figure
Remittances over the Business Cycle: Theory and Evidence
We examine the behaviour of remittances over the business cycle and their potential to act as a ‘stabilizer’ during periods of high business cycle volatility. Two main findings are reported. First, remittances are less volatile than other foreign currency flows and do not appear to systemically comove with business cycle fluctuations. Second, remittances are relatively stable even during episodes of sharp business cycle volatility, such as those associated with sudden stops and financial crises. We also provide an overview of the theoretical literature on the implications of different motives to remit for the cyclical behaviour of remittances
Transcription factor TFII-I fine tunes innate properties of B lymphocytes
The ubiquitously expressed transcription factor TFII-I is a multifunctional protein with pleiotropic roles in gene regulation. TFII-I associated polymorphisms are implicated in Sjögren’s syndrome and Lupus in humans and, germline deletion of the Gtf2i gene in mice leads to embryonic lethality. Here we report a unique role for TFII-I in homeostasis of innate properties of B lymphocytes. Loss of Gtf2i in murine B lineage cells leads to an alteration in transcriptome, chromatin landscape and associated transcription factor binding sites, which exhibits myeloid-like features and coincides with enhanced sensitivity to LPS induced gene expression. TFII-I deficient B cells also show increased switching to IgG3, a phenotype associated with inflammation. These results demonstrate a role for TFII-I in maintaining immune homeostasis and provide clues for GTF2I polymorphisms associated with B cell dominated autoimmune diseases in humans
Misregulation of the IgH Locus in Thymocytes
Functional antigen receptor genes are assembled by somatic rearrangements that are largely lymphocyte lineage specific. The immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH) gene locus is unique amongst the seven antigen receptor loci in undergoing partial gene rearrangements in the wrong lineage. Here we demonstrate that breakdown of lineage-specificity is associated with inappropriate activation of the Eμ enhancer during T cell development by a different constellation of transcription factors than those used in developing B cells. This is reflected in reduced enhancer-induced epigenetic changes, eRNAs, formation of the RAG1/2-rich recombination center, attenuated chromatin looping and markedly different utilization of DH gene segments in CD4+CD8+ (DP) thymocytes. Additionally, CTCF-dependent VH locus compaction is disrupted in DP cells despite comparable transcription factor binding in both lineages. These observations identify multiple mechanisms that contribute to lineage-specific antigen receptor gene assembly
