Top Quark Measurements at the Fermilab Tevatron
The top quark, discovered at the Tevatron in 1995, is a very interesting
particle. Precise measurement of the top properties using large data samples
will allow stringent tests of the Standard Model and offer a unique window on
new physics. In this report will be reviewed the status of the current
knowledge of the top quark as provided by the Run I results of the CDF and D0
experiment. A first look at various preliminary measurements obtained with data

On Observing Top Quark Production at the Tevatron
A technique for separating top quark production from Standard Model
background events is introduced. It is applicable to the channel in which one
top quark decays semi-leptonically and its anti-quark decays hadronically into
three jets, or vice versa. The method is shown to discriminate dramatically
between Monte Carlo generated events with and without simulated top quarks of
mass around 120 GeV and above. The simulations were performed with CDF detector
characteristics incorporated, showing that the method is applicable to existing

Quantum marking and quantum erasure for neutral kaons
Entangled K0 anti-K0 pairs are shown to be suitable to discuss extensions and
tests of Bohr's complementarity principle through the quantum marking and
quantum erasure techniques suggested by M. O. Scully and K. Druehl [Phys. Rev.
A 25, 2208 (1982)]. Strangeness oscillations play the role of the traditional
interference pattern linked to wave-like behaviour, whereas the distinct
propagation in free space of the K_S and K_L components mimics the two possible

A Comprehensive Mechanism Reproducing the Mass and Mixing Parameters of Quarks and Leptons
It is shown that if, from the starting point of a universal rank-one mass
matrix long favoured by phenomenologists, one adds the assumption that it
rotates (changes its orientation in generation space) with changing scale, one
can reproduce, in terms of only 6 real parameters, all the 16 mass ratios and
mixing parameters of quarks and leptons. Of these 16 quantities so reproduced,
10 for which data exist for direct comparison (i.e. the CKM elements including
the CP-violating phase, the angles in
-oscillation, and the masses ) agree well with
experiment, mostly to within experimental errors; 4 others (), the experimental values for which can only be inferred, agree
reasonably well; while 2 others ( for leptons), not yet
measured experimentally, remain as predictions. In addition, one gets as
bonuses, estimates for (i) the right-handed neutrino mass and (ii)
the strong CP angle inherent in QCD. One notes in particular that the
output value for from the fit agrees very well with
recent experiments. By inputting the current experimental value with its error,
one obtains further from the fit 2 new testable constraints: (i) that
must depart from its "maximal" value: , (ii) that the CP-violating (Dirac) phase in the PMNS would be
smaller than in the CKM matrix: of order only if

Experimental analysis of lateral impact on planar brittle material
The fragmentation of alumina and glass plates due to lateral impact is
studied. A few hundred plates have been fragmented at different impact
velocities and the produced fragments are analyzed. The method employed in this
work allows one to investigate some geometrical properties of the fragments,
besides the traditional size distribution usually studied in former
experiments. We found that, although both materials exhibit qualitative similar
fragment size distribution function, their geometrical properties appear to be
quite different. A schematic model for two-dimensional fragmentation is also
presented and its predictions are compared to our experimental results. The
comparison suggests that the analysis of the fragments' geometrical properties
constitutes a more stringent test of the theoretical models' assumptions than
the size distribution

Photoproduction evidence for and against hidden-strangeness states near 2 GeV
Experimental evidence from coherent diffractive proton scattering has been
reported for two narrow baryonic resonances which decay predominantly to
strange particles. These states, with masses close to 2.0 GeV would, if
confirmed, be candidates for hidden strangeness states with unusual internal
structure. In this paper we examine the literature on strangeness
photoproduction, to seek additional evidence for or against these states. We
find that one state is not confirmed, while for the other state there is some
mild supporting evidence favoring its existence. New experiments are called

On radiative np -> 1s + gamma transitions, induced by strong low-energy interactions,in kaonic atoms
We calculate the rates of the radiative transitions np -> 1s + gamma in
kaonic hydrogen and kaonic deuterium, induced by strong low-energy interactions
and enhanced by Coulomb interactions. The obtained results should be taken into
account for the theoretical analysis of the experimental data on the X-ray
spectra and yields in kaonic atoms.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figur
Effects of S-wave thresholds
The opening of a new S-wave threshold is frequently accompanied by an abrupt
dip in the magnitude of an amplitude for an already-open channel. One familiar
example is the behavior of the I=0 S-wave scattering amplitude at threshold. Numerous other examples of this phenomenon in recent data
