Neutrino flares from black hole coronae
We present a model for neutrino flares in accreting black holes based on the
injection of a non-thermal population of relativistic particles in a magnetized
corona. The most important products of hadronic and photohadronic interactions
at high energies are pions. Charged pions decay into muons and neutrinos; muons
also decay yielding neutrinos. Taking into account these effects, coupled
transport equations are solved for all species of particles and the neutrino
production is estimated for the case of accreting galactic black holes.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in Advances in Space

Industry 4.0 and industrial revolutions: an assessment based on complexity
The evolution of society can be related to industrial revolutions. Revolutions are disruptive and transformative phenomena that change and interact with several systems. Industrial revolutions depend on changes in
scientific, and mostly technological, paradigms and require people’s participation. They are not only created with individual political intentions, because they are collective and complex systems. The expression Industry 4.0, created in Germany in 2011, denotes the so-called fourth industrial revolution. The question considered in this paper is whether Industry 4.0, as the fourth industrial revolution, is effectively underway or is it still only a vision of the future? This article analyses, from the point of view of the science of complexity, the transformations and the relations of industrial systems with other selected systems. It was made through fractal analysis using indicators of four countries, namely, United Kingdom, United States of America,
Germany and China. Considering the evolution of population growth, Gross Domestic Product per capita, communication technologies and intellectual property, the results of the analysis show that the factor that
stands out is the protection of intellectual property. The analysis of the previous indicators showed that it is not possible to claim that the fourth industrial revolution is underway, implying that Industrial 4.0 may stil be a vision of the future. The results obtained can not be considered conclusive and more research is needed. This work has been supported by FCT - Fundacao para a Ciencia e Tecnologia within the Project Scope: UID/CEC/00319/2019
Proyecto LLAMA
In this paper we briefly describe a joint scientific and technological effort between Argentina and Brazil, whose first goal is to install and run, in the northwestern part of Argentina, a millimetre and submillimetre observational facility. In the long run, we would like to incorporate this dish to existing ones (ALMA, APEX, ASTE) in the northern extreme of Chile, to be able to carry out, for the first time in Latinamerican soil, very long base- line interferometry at mm/submm wavelengths. We also succintly mention a long term campaign that is under way in order to monitor the transparency of the atmosphere at those wavelengths. The science that can be accom- plished with this instrument, the technology transfer spin-offs related to this project, and the scientific and strategic importance of this project within both the Argentinean and Latinamerican radioastronomy is described.Fil: Arnal, Edmundo Marcelo. Astrophysical Jets and Outflows
Highly collimated supersonic jets and less collimated outflows are observed
to emerge from a wide variety of astrophysical objects. They are seen in young
stellar objects (YSOs), proto-planetary nebulae, compact objects (like galactic
black holes or microquasars, and X-ray binary stars), and in the nuclei of
active galaxies (AGNs). Despite their different physical scales (in size,
velocity, and amount of energy transported), they have strong morphological
similarities. What physics do they share? These systems either hydrodynamic or
magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) in nature and are, as such, governed by non-linear
equations. While theoretical models helped us to understand the basic physics
of these objects, numerical simulations have been allowing us to go beyond the
one-dimensional, steady-state approach extracting vital information. In this
lecture, the formation, structure, and evolution of the jets are reviewed with
the help of observational information, MHD and purely hydrodynamical modeling,
and numerical simulations. Possible applications of the models particularly to
YSOs and AGN jets are addressed.Comment: pdf file, 20 pages, 12 figures; invited review lecture for the ASSE

Particle transport in magnetized media around black holes and associated radiation
Galactic black hole coronae are composed of a hot, magnetized plasma. The
spectral energy distribution produced in this component of X-ray binaries can
be strongly affected by different interactions between locally injected
relativistic particles and the matter, radiation and magnetic fields in the
source. We study the non-thermal processes driven by the injection of
relativistic particles into a strongly magnetized corona around an accreting
black hole. We compute in a self-consistent way the effects of relativistic
bremsstrahlung, inverse Compton scattering, synchrotron radiation, and the
pair-production/annihilation of leptons, as well as hadronic interactions. Our
goal is to determine the non-thermal broadband radiative output of the corona.
The set of coupled kinetic equations for electrons, positrons, protons, and
photons are solved and the resulting particle distributions are computed
self-consistently. The spectral energy distributions of transient events in
X-ray binaries are calculated, as well as the neutrino production. We show that
the application to Cygnus X-1 of our model of non-thermal emission from a
magnetized corona yields a good fit to the observational data. Finally, we show
that the accumulated signal produced by neutrino bursts in black hole coronae
might be detectable for sources within a few kpc on timescales of years. Our
work leads to predictions for non-thermal photon and neutrino emission
generated around accreting black holes, that can be tested by the new
generation of very high energy gamma-ray and neutrino instruments.Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in A&
