Conformal classes of asymptotically flat, static vacuum data

We show that time-reflection symmetric, asymptotically flat, static vacuum data which admit a non-trivial conformal rescaling which leads again to such data must be axi-symmetric and admit a conformal Killing field. Moreover, it is shown that there exists a 3-parameter family of such data.Comment: 23 page

Halo models in modified gravity theories with self-accelerated expansion

We investigate the structure of halos in the sDGP (self-accelerating branch of the Dvali-Gavadadze-Porrati braneworld gravity) model and the galileon modified gravity model on the basis of the static and spherically symmetric solutions of the collisionless Boltzmann equation, which reduce to the singular isothermal sphere model and the King model in the limit of Newtonian gravity. The common feature of these halos is that the density of a halo in the outer region is larger (smaller) in the sDGP (galileon) model, respectively, in comparison with Newtonian gravity. This comes from the suppression (enhancement) of the effective gravity at large distance in the sDGP (galileon) model, respectively. However, the difference between these modified gravity models and Newtonian gravity only appears outside the halo due to the Vainshtein mechanism, which makes it difficult to distinguish between them. We also discuss the case in which the halo density profile is fixed independently of the gravity model for comparison between our results and previous work.Comment: 15pages, 6 figures, maches the version to be published in Int. Canonical connection on a class of Riemannian almost product manifolds

The canonical connection on a Riemannian almost product manifold is an analogue to the Hermitian connection on an almost Hermitian manifold. In this paper we consider the canonical connection on a class of Riemannian almost product manifolds with non-integrable almost product structure. We construct and characterize an example by a Lie group.Comment: 19 pages, some corrections in the example; J. Geom. (2012

Conformal Transformations of the Wigner Function and Solutions of the Quantum Corrected Vlasov Equation

We study conformal properties of the quantum kinetic equations in curved spacetime. A transformation law for the covariant Wigner function under conformal transformations of a spacetime is derived by using the formalism of tangent bundles. The conformal invariance of the quantum corrected Vlasov equation is proven. This provides a basis for generating new solutions of the quantum kinetic equations in the presence of gravitational and other external fields. We use our method to find explicit quantum corrections to the class of locally isotropic distributions, to which equilibrium distributions belong. We show that the quantum corrected stress--energy tensor for such distributions has, in general, a non--equilibrium structure. Local thermal equilibrium is possible in quantum systems only if an underlying spacetime is conformally static (not stationary). Possible applications of our results are discussed.Comment: 30 page

Natural Connection with Totally Skew-Symmetric Torsion on Riemannian Almost Product Manifolds

On a Riemannian almost product manifold (M,P,g)(M,P,g) we consider a linear connection preserving the almost product structure PP and the Riemannian metric gg and having a totally skew-symmetric torsion. We determine the class of the manifolds (M,P,g)(M,P,g) admitting such a connection and prove that this connection is unique in terms of the covariant derivative of PP with respect to the Levi-Civita connection. We find a necessary and sufficient condition the curvature tensor of the considered connection to have similar properties like the ones of the K\"ahler tensor in Hermitian geometry. We pay attention to the case when the torsion of the connection is parallel. We consider this connection on a Riemannian almost product manifold (G,P,g)(G,P,g) constructed by a Lie group GG.Comment: 14 pages, a revised edition, an example is adde

Evolutionary Dynamics of Multigene Families in Triportheus (Characiformes, Triportheidae): A Transposon Mediated Mechanism?

    Get PDF
Triportheus (Characiformes, Triportheidae) is a freshwater fish genus with 18 valid species. These fishes are widely distributed in the major river drainages of South America, having commercial importance in the fishing market, mainly in the Amazon basin. This genus has diverged recently in a complex process of speciation carried out in different river basins. The use of repetitive sequences is suitable to trace the genomic reorganizations occured along the speciation process. In this work, the 5S rDNA multigene family has been characterized at molecular and phylogenetic level. The results showed that other multigene family has been found within the non-transcribed spacer (NTS): the U1 snRNA gene. Double-FISH with 5S and U1 probes were also performed, confirming the close linkage between these two multigene families. Moreover, evidences of different transposable elements (TE) were detected within the spacer, thus suggesting a transposon-mediated mechanism of 5S-U1 evolutionary pathway in this genus. Phylogenetic analysis demonstrated a species-specific grouping, except for Triportheus pantanensis, Triportheus aff. rotundatus and Triportheus trifurcatus. The evolutionary model of the 5S rDNA in Triportheus species has been discussed. In addition, the results suggest new clues for the speciation and evolutionary trend in these species, which could be suitable to use in other Characiformes species
