Studies of superconductivity and structure for CaC6 to pressures above 15 GPa
The dependence of the superconducting transition temperature Tc of CaC6 has
been determined as a function of hydrostatic pressure in both helium-loaded gas
and diamond-anvil cells to 0.6 and 32 GPa, respectively. Following an initial
increase at the rate +0.39(1) K/GPa, Tc drops abruptly from 15 K to 4 K at 10
GPa. Synchrotron x-ray measurements to 15 GPa point to a structural transition
near 10 GPa from a rhombohedral to a higher symmetry phase
Computer simulator for a mobile telephone system
A software simulator to help NASA in the design of the LMSS was developed. The simulator will be used to study the characteristics of implementation requirements of the LMSS's configuration with specifications as outlined by NASA

The effect of interference on delta modulation encoded video signals
An adaptive delta modulator which encodes composite color video signals was shown to provide a good response when operating at 16 Mb/s and near-commercial quality at 23Mb/s. The ADM was relatively immune to channel errors. The system design is discussed and circuit diagrams are included
Universal mechanism of spin relaxation in solids
We consider relaxation of a rigid spin cluster in an elastic medium in the
presence of the magnetic field. Universal simple expression for spin-phonon
matrix elements due to local rotations of the lattice is derived. The
equivalence of the lattice frame and the laboratory frame approaches is
established. For spin Hamiltonians with strong uniaxial anisotropy the field
dependence of the transition rates due to rotations is analytically calculated
and its universality is demonstrated. The role of time reversal symmetry in
spin-phonon transitions has been elucidated. The theory provides lower bound on
the decoherence of any spin-based solid-state qubit.Comment: 11 PR pages, 1 Figur
