    A comparison of MSS radiometric processing techniques identified as a preferred radiometric processing technique a procedure which equalizes the mean and standard deviation of detector-specific histograms of uncalibrated scene data. Evaluation of MSS calibration data demonstrated that the relationship between detector responses is essentially linear over the range of intensities typically observed in MSS data, and that the calibration wedge data possess a high degree of temporal stability. An analysis of the preferred radiometric processing technique showed that it could be incorporated into the MDP-MSS system without a major redesign of the system, and with minimal impact on system throughput

    Inequality and Opportunity At theMsa-Level: Investigating Place As A Structure of Inequality Shaping Mobility and Earnings

    This study examines how the new urban economy has transformed the structures that impact individual earnings opportunities across place. Using data from the 1990 and 2000 Census, this study is based on two multi-level data sets, each reporting characteristics for approximately 2 million individuals nested within more than 200 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs). This study examines how inequality varies across MSAs in the US. Associations between MSA-level characteristics, including proportion of employment in new economy sectors, earnings, educational attainment, and inequality, are tested. Strong evidence is found demonstrating strong and statistically significant correlations between new economy indicators and MSA-level inequality, which is measured through an MSA-level Gini index and an earnings ratio. In the last portion of the study, hierarchical linear modeling, which makes it possible to test and control for cross-level interactions, is used to examine how these indicators shape individual earnings across place

    For my project, we chose to do a thesis so that it would better help me out in the future in the case I wanted to get my PhD. My thesis so far has been to develop software that will help POD sites better be able to train their volunteers in the case of an emergency. We have already collected some data for our research from a test POD site that was constructed. We took data on the amount of time it took each volunteer to get an individual actor through the line depending on whether they learned via teacher or by my software. The data helped to prove how beneficial teaching via software could be, due to the fact there wasn’t any missing information, and there was a greater retention rate. Currently I just work at Lowes as a customer service administrator, mostly so I get to interact with customers every day to better understand how to communicate and give the information I would have on my software. The general are that my research has been taken so far is in emergency preparedness, and I would like to continue heading this direction until other opportunities arise

    Amorphous interface layer in thin graphite films grown on the carbon face of SiC

    Cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is used to characterize an amorphous layer observed at the interface in graphite and graphene films grown via thermal decomposition of C-face 4H-SiC. The amorphous layer does not to cover the entire interface, but uniform contiguous regions span microns of cross-sectional interface. Annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscopy (ADF-STEM) images and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) demonstrate that the amorphous layer is a carbon-rich composition of Si/C. The amorphous layer is clearly observed in samples grown at 1600{\deg}C for a range of growth pressures in argon, but not at 1500{\deg}C, suggesting a temperature-dependent formation mechanism
