The effect of sample properties on the electron velocity in quantum Hall bars
We report on our theoretical investigation of the effects of the confining
potential profile and sample size on the electron velocity distribution in
(narrow) quantum-Hall systems. The electrostatic properties of the electron
system are obtained by the Thomas-Fermi-Poisson nonlinear screening theory. The
electron velocity distribution as a function of the lateral coordinate is
obtained from the slope of the screened potential at the Fermi level and within
the incompressible strips (ISs). We compare our findings with the recent

Effects of L-Carnitine on Growth of Individually Cultured Cladoceran, Moina micrura
The cladoceran, Moina micrura, is a potential alternative live food for fish larvae. The effects of L-carnitine enrichment on first reproduction age, population density, and growth rate in M. micrura were determined. The cladocerans were enriched at 10 levels of L-carnitine (0, 0.001, 0.01, 0.1, 1, 10, 100, 500, 1000, and 1500 mg/l) dissolved in 30 ml Chlorella vulgaris culture medium for 17 days. The first reproduction age was stimulated by the supplemental L-carnitine. The population density was highest in the 1 mg/l treatment. The highest population growth rate was obtained in the 10 mg/l treatment, but it did not differ from the growth rate in the 0.1, 1, or 100 mg/l treatments. Consequently, the optimum L-carnitine concentration for M. micrura is 1 mg/l. Results suggest that L-carnitine can be a positive factor in enhancing the use of M. micrura as an alternative live food for fish larvae
Sustainable development of smallholder crop-livestock farming in developing countries
Meeting the growing demand for animal-sourced food, prompted by population growth and increases in average per-capita income in low-income countries, is a major challenge. Yet, it also presents significant potential for agricultural growth, economic development, and reduction of poverty in rural areas. The main constraints to livestock producers taking advantage of growing markets include; lack of forage and feed gaps, communal land tenure, limited access to land and water resources, weak institutions, poor infrastructure and environmental degradation. To improve rural livelihood and food security in smallholder crop-livestock farming systems, concurrent work is required to address issues regarding efficiency of production, risk within systems and development of whole value chain systems. This paper provides a review of several forage basedstudies in tropical and non-tropical dry areas of the developing countries. A central tenet of this paper is that forages have an essential role in agricultural productivity, environmental sustainability and livestock nutrition in smallholder mixed farming systems

Short communication: Age, growth and mortality of Caspian spirlin, Alburnoides eichwaldii (De Filippi, 1863), from Aras River Basin in Turkey
The genus Alburnoides belongs to the Leuciscine cyprinids and is distributed in Europe and eastern parts of Asia. Only two subspecies have been consistently reported for Alburnoides bipunctatus (Heckel, 1858) from Turkey, A. bipunctatus eichwaldii and A. bipunctatus fasciatus. Just a few years ago, some taxonomic work focusing on the genus Alburnoides reported 4 new species from Turkey. Alburnus eichwaldii (De Filippi, 1863), described from the Kurpresso Tiflis (Kura River near Tbilisi, Georgia), is usually regarded as a Caspian Sea basin subspecies of A. bipunctatus. Recently, the species was considered to be a full species. ... However, there has not been any study conducted on population dynamic parameters of the species in Turkey. Mitigating Off-Policy Bias in Actor-Critic Methods with One-Step Q-learning: A Novel Correction Approach
Compared to on-policy counterparts, off-policy model-free deep reinforcement
learning can improve data efficiency by repeatedly using the previously
gathered data. However, off-policy learning becomes challenging when the
discrepancy between the underlying distributions of the agent's policy and
collected data increases. Although the well-studied importance sampling and
off-policy policy gradient techniques were proposed to compensate for this
discrepancy, they usually require a collection of long trajectories and induce
additional problems such as vanishing/exploding gradients or discarding many
useful experiences, which eventually increases the computational complexity.
Moreover, their generalization to either continuous action domains or policies
approximated by deterministic deep neural networks is strictly limited. To
overcome these limitations, we introduce a novel policy similarity measure to
mitigate the effects of such discrepancy in continuous control. Our method
offers an adequate single-step off-policy correction that is applicable to
deterministic policy networks. Theoretical and empirical studies demonstrate
that it can achieve a "safe" off-policy learning and substantially improve the
state-of-the-art by attaining higher returns in fewer steps than the competing
methods through an effective schedule of the learning rate in Q-learning and
policy optimization
Pulsed Beam Tests at the SANAEM RFQ Beamline
A proton beamline consisting of an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) source,
two solenoid magnets, two steerer magnets and a radio frequency quadrupole
(RFQ) is developed at the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority's (TAEA) Saraykoy
Nuclear Research and Training Center (SNRTC-SANAEM) in Ankara. In Q4 of 2016,
the RFQ was installed in the beamline. The high power tests of the RF power
supply and the RF transmission line were done successfully. The high power RF
conditioning of the RFQ was performed recently. The 13.56 MHz ICP source was
tested in two different conditions, CW and pulsed. The characterization of the
proton beam was done with ACCTs, Faraday cups and a pepper-pot emittance meter.
Beam transverse emittance was measured in between the two solenoids of the
LEBT. The measured beam is then reconstructed at the entrance of the RFQ by
using computer simulations to determine the optimum solenoid currents for
acceptance matching of the beam. This paper will introduce the pulsed beam test
results at the SANAEM RFQ beamline. In addition, the high power RF conditioning
