    Effect of Diethylenetriamine and Triethylamine sensitization on the critical diameter of Nitromethane

    In this work, the critical diameter for detonation was measured for Nitromethane (NM) sensitized with two different amines: Diethylenetriamine (DETA) and Triethylamine (TEA). The critical diameter in glass and polyvinylchloride tubes is found to decrease rapidly as the amount of sensitizer is increased, then increase past a critical amount of sensitizer. Thus the critical diameter reaches a minimum at a critical concentration of sensitizer. It was also found that the critical diameter is lower with DETA than with TEA

    Testing of a novel web browser interface for the Chinese market

    This paper compares the perspicacity, appropriateness and preference of web browser icons from leading software providers with those of a culture-specific design. This online study was conducted in Taiwan and involved 103 participants, who were given three sets of web browser icons to review, namely Microsoft Internet Explorer, Macintosh Safari, and culturally specific icons created using the Culture-Centred Design methodology. The findings of the study show that all three sets have generally high recognition rates, but that some icon functions (e.g. Go/Visit and Favourite) in all three sets have poor recognition rates and are considered inappropriate

    Self-healing efficiency study of thermoset-thermoplastic polymer material

    This study is focused on exploring intrinsic self-healing polymer material development, where the inclusion of thermoplastic additives into thermoset polymer material as healing agents. Intrinsic self-healing thermoset-thermoplastic development is involving the material formulation of thermoset liquid resin (Poly Bisphenol A-co-epichlorohydrin) and thermoplastic (polycaprolactone). The material formulation ratio is up to 30% polycaprolactone with respect to thermoset weight. The mixture is heated and stirred to saturate at 80oC before the hardener is added. The mixture is cured and further finishing as Charpy impact test specimen. The specimen is fractured and absorbed impact energy property characterised through the Charpy impact test. The heat treatment is then performed to trigger the self-healing reaction in the polymer. The self-healing efficiency of the thermoset thermoplastic is investigated based on the absorbed impact energy before and after the heat treatment. The 20% or higher thermoplastic concentration in the polymer caused the polymer to possess high self-healing efficiency and faster healing time as compared to the low thermoplastic concentration polymer. However, the high concentration polymer has a disadvantage on the overall structural strength instead. On the contrary, 10% to 15% thermoplastic composition will result in lower and slower self-healing performance but higher initial structural strength

    Lanczos exact diagonalization study of field-induced phase transition for Ising and Heisenberg antiferromagnets

    Using an exact diagonalization treatment of Ising and Heisenberg model Hamiltonians, we study field-induced phase transition for two-dimensional antiferromagnets. For the system of Ising antiferromagnet the predicted field-induced phase transition is of first order, while for the system of Heisenberg antiferromagnet it is the second-order transition. We find from the exact diagonalization calculations that the second-order phase transition (metamagnetism) occurs through a spin-flop process as an intermediate step.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Search for the Lepton-Number-Violating Decay Ξ−→pμ−μ−\Xi^- \to p \mu^- \mu^-

    A sensitive search for the lepton-number-violating decay Ξ−→pμ−μ−\Xi^-\to p \mu^-\mu^- has been performed using a sample of ∼109\sim10^9 Ξ−\Xi^- hyperons produced in 800 GeV/cc pp-Cu collisions. We obtain B(Ξ−→pμ−μ−)<4.0×10−8\mathcal{B}(\Xi^-\to p \mu^-\mu^-)< 4.0\times 10^{-8} at 90% confidence, improving on the best previous limit by four orders of magnitude.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, to be published in Phys.
