Occupational safety and health practice: a study at quarry site by using hirarc form
Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) is a discipline with wide scope involving many specialized fields. In other words, occupational health and safety comprises of aspects in terms of social, mental and physical. This study focuses on the occupational safety and health act ABC Quarry Site located in Kedah. Nowadays, the workers lack of safety and health practice from their companies based on the observations being done one site during this project’s site visit. It is very important for the employers to manage occupational safety and health at the workplace because of the lack of management control often leads to the existence of causes of accidents and allows for unsafe practices among the workers. The data collection was carried out through site investigation and HIRARC form and interview with the person in charge during the site visit. The objective of this study is to promote the occupational environment adaptable to the employer and employees at the workplace based on the existing potential hazard. This report was conducted to identify the hazard on the construction site and to analyse the occupational safety and health in the workplace. This study suggests recommendations for improving occupational safety and health act in the construction site. Effective job safety and health training will help to reduce worker injuries and illnesses
Sustainable Growth and Ethics: a Study of Business Ethics in Vietnam Between Business Students and Working Adults
Sustainable growth is not only the ultimate goal of business corporations but also the primary target of local governments as well as regional and global economies. One of the cornerstones of sustainable growth is ethics. An ethical organizational culture provides support to achieve sustainable growth. Ethical leaders and employees have great potential for positive influence on decisions and behaviors that lead to sustainability. Ethical behavior, therefore, is expected of everyone in the modern workplace. As a result, companies devote many resources and training programs to make sure their employees live according to the high ethical standards. This study provides an analysis of Vietnamese business students’ level of ethical maturity based on gender, education, work experience, and ethics training. The results of data from 260 business students compared with 704 working adults in Vietnam demonstrate that students have a significantly higher level of ethical maturity. Furthermore, gender and work experience are significant factors in ethical maturity. While more educated respondents and those who had completed an ethics course did have a higher level of ethical maturity, the results were not statistically significant. Analysis of the results along with suggestions and implications are provided

Spitzer Space Telescope Observations of the Magnetic Cataclysmic Variable AE Aqr
The magnetic cataclysmic variable AE Aquarii hosts a rapidly rotating white
dwarf which is thought to expel most of the material streaming onto it.
Observations of AE Aqr have been obtained in the wavelength range of 5 - 70
microns with the IRS, IRAC, and MIPS instruments on board the Spitzer Space
Telescope. The spectral energy distribution reveals a significant excess above
the K4V spectrum of the donor star with the flux increasing with wavelength
above 12.5 microns. Superposed on the energy distribution are several hydrogen
emission lines, identified as Pf alpha and Hu alpha, beta, gamma. The infrared
spectrum above 12.5 microns can be interpreted as synchrotron emission from
electrons accelerated to a power-law distribution dN=E^{-2.4}dE in expanding
clouds with an initial evolution timescale in seconds. However, too many
components must then be superposed to explain satisfactorily both the
mid-infrared continuum and the observed radio variability. Thermal emission
from cold circumbinary material can contribute, but it requires a disk
temperature profile intermediate between that produced by local viscous
dissipation in the disk and that characteristic of a passively irradiated disk.
Future high-time resolution observations spanning the optical to radio regime
could shed light on the acceleration process and the subsequent particle
evolution.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in Ap
EFFECTS OF ALKALINE PRE-IMPREGNATION AND PULPING ON MALAYSIA CULTIVATED KENAF (HIBISCUS CANNABINUS
This study was carried out to identify an appropriate alkaline pulping condition for Malaysia cultivated kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.). The chemical composition of the kenaf bast and core fibers, and also whole stalk with different growing time were examined prior to pulping attempts. The results of various soda-AQ pulping showed that the degree of carbohydrate degradation and delignification increased with the increase of active alkali and cooking temperature, but decreased with the increase of liquor to material (L:M) ratio. The most satisfactory properties of pulp and handsheets from bast could be attained by employing soda-AQ pulping with 19.4% active alkali, 0.10% AQ, and L:M ratio of 7:1 cooked for 2 hours at 160˚C. Besides, it was also found that a mild alkaline pre-impregnation prior pulping improved the pulp viscosity and handsheets’ strength properties, especially the tensile index and folding endurance effectively. Moreover, among the three alkaline pulping processes—kraft, kraft-AQ, and soda-AQ—the results of pulp and handsheet properties showed that the soda-AQ pulp was comparable or even slightly of higher quality than the kraft pulps. Between the unbeaten bast and core soda-AQ handsheets, the strength properties of the core were higher than the bast, as the thin-walled core fibers exhibited much better conformability than the thick-walled bast fibers
