Gluino Production in Electron-Positron Annihilation
We discuss the pair production of gluinos in electron-positron annihilation
at LEP, in a model with soft supersymmetry breaking, allowing for mixing
between the squarks. In much of the parameter space of the Minimal
Supersymmetric Model (MSSM) the cross section corresponds to a branching
ratio above , even up to . A non-observation of gluinos at
this level restricts the allowed MSSM parameter space. In particular, it leads
to lower bounds on the soft mass parameters in the squark sector.Comment: 24 pages LATEX plus 10 pages of figures (not included, available on

LCPT: a program for finding linear canonical transformations. [In MACSYMA]
This article describes a MACSYMA program to compute symbolically a canonical linear transformation between coordinate systems. The difficulties in implementation of this canonical small physics problem are also discussed, along with the implications that may be drawn from such difficulties about widespread MACSYMA usage by the community of computational/theoretical physicists
Processing textbook-style matrices
Abstract. In mathematical textbooks matrices are often represented as objects of indefinite size containing abbreviations. To make the knowledge implicitly given in these representations available in electronic form they have to be interpreted correctly. We present an algorithm that provides the interface between the textbook style representation of matrix expressions and their concrete interpretation as formal mathematical objects. Given an underspecified matrix containing ellipses and fill symbols, our algorithm extracts the semantic information contained. Matrices are interpreted as a collection of regions that can be interpolated with a particular term structure. The effectiveness of our procedure is demonstrated with an implementation in the computer algebra system Maple.
PVMaple: a Distributed Approach to Cooperative Work of Maple Processes
In this paper we present the structure and functionality of a prototype system, namely PVMaple, for cooperative Maple applications running on networked workstations in a message passing environment supplied by PVM
Role-Based Specification of the Behaviour of an Agent for the Interactive Resolution of Mathematical Problems
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-540-30139-4_18Proceedings of 7th International Conference, ITS 2004, Maceió, Alagoas, Brazil, August 30 - September 3, 2004In this paper we describe how a computer system, which includes an authoring tool for teachers and an execution tool for students, is able to generate interactive dialogs in a Mathematics teaching application. This application is named ConsMath, and allows students to learn how to solve problems of Mathematics that involve symbolic calculations. This is done by means of an agent that is in charge of delivering the dialogs to students. The design process entails the dynamic generation of the user interface intended for learners with the insertion of decision points. During the execution, a tracking agent matches students’ actions with the ones previously associated to decision points by the designer, thereby activating dynamic modifications in the interface by using a hierarchy of production rules. Students can use ConsMath both at their own pace or in a collaborative setting. The work described in this paper is part of the Ensenada and Arcadia projects, funded by the National Plan of Research and Development of Spain, projects TIC 2001-0685-C02-01 and TIC2002-01948 respectivel
