Abstract: The malocclusion is an alteration of dental position and the shape of the arches that affects the musculoskeletal structures of the masticatory system of individuals affected by this condition. The objective of this study was analysis the morphofunctional alterations of mandible and two masticatory muscles. Forty eight male rats Novergicus Wistar divided into three groups of 16 animals, group 1: submitted to bilateral increased occlusal vertical dimension, group 2, submitted to posterior displacement of the mandible and group 3: control. The morphometric analyze of bone density of the alveolar process, ramus and base of mandible and the fibres modifications by histochemistry (NADH-tr) of the masseter and temporal muscles, were effected by the ImageJ software. The densitometric analysis presented bone loss only in the base of the mandible in group 1 (0,454 ± 0,020) and increase in the bone content of mandible in group 2 (1,06E+06 ± 2,53+05) and other regions. The histochemical results showed the fast glycolytic fibers (FG) (1,06E+06 ± 2,53+05), area larger than fast glycolytic-oxidative fibers (FOG) (6,86E+05 ± 1,50E+05), while the slow oxidative (SO) (5,50E+05 ± 1,40E+05) was lower than the others. Among all fibers analyzed, the group 2 (8,89E+05 ± 2,56E+05) showed largest area than groups 1 (6,89E+05 ± 1,18E+05) and control (7,20E+05 ± 1,69E+05). The fibers of temporal muscle (8,54E+05 ± 2,11E+05) presented largest area than the masseter muscle (6,78E+05 ± 1,51E+05). There was predominance of FG fibers (22 ± 4) in relation the FOG (13 ± 3) and SO fibers (15 ± 4), to other in all groups and muscles studied. The temporal muscle presented numerically more SO (15 ± 3,9) than FOG (12 ± 3), and masseter muscle showed equal numbers of these fibers. The occlusal alterations provoked morphological changes in bone tissue of mandible and masticatory muscles.DoutoradoAnatomiaDoutor em Biologia Buco-Denta

Dental trauma generally requires multidisciplinary planning and treatment for good prognosis. When immature teeth are traumatized to a degree where pulp necrosis ensues, the objective of root canal treatment should be apexogenesis and root maturation. Apexification of the root is the conventional choice, which involves cleaning the canal and filling it with a temporary medication that stimulates the formation of a calcific apical barrier. Dental Trauma Service of Piracicaba Dental School, State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil employs a dressing for apexification treatments with calcium hydroxide, chlorhexidine gel 2% and zinc oxide. This paper reports the case of a dental trauma of the maxillary central incisors and subluxation on teeth 11, 12 and 21 that were treated with multidisciplinary collaboration (Endodontics, Periodontology and Operative Dentistry) to improve prognosis. After five-years there were no pathological conditions and the teeth showed every evidences of success

Does stroke volume increase during an incremental exercise? A systematic review

Introduction: Cardiac output increases during incremental-load exercise to meet metabolic skeletal muscle demand. This response requires a fast adjustment in heart rate and stroke volume. The heart rate is well known to increase linearly with exercise loadhowever, data for stroke volume during incremental-load exercise are unclear. Our objectives were to (a) review studies that have investigated stroke volume on incremental load exercise and (b) summarize the findings for stroke volume, primarily at maximal-exercise load. Methods: A comprehensive review of the Cochrane Library's, Embase, Medline, SportDiscus, PubMed, and Web of Sci-ence databases was carried out for the years 1985 to the present. The search was performed between February and June 2014 to find studies evaluating changes in stroke volume during incremental-load exercise. Controlled and uncontrolled trials were evaluated for a quality score. Results: The stroke volume data in maximal-exercise load are inconsistent. There is evidence to hypothesis that stroke volume increases during maximal-exercise load, but other lines of evidence indicate that stroke volume reaches a plateau under these circumstances, or even decreases. Conclusion: The stroke volume are unclear, include contradictory evidence. Additional studies with standardized reporting for subjects (e.g., age, gender, physical fitness, and body position), exercise test protocols, and left ventricular function are required to clarify the characteristics of stroke volume during incremental maximal-exercise load.

In the last deeades the women are oeeupying positions that previously were exclusively maseuline, what put them in prominenee position in the western soeiety. The largest exhibition raised larger eare with the appearanee and the high hell shoes are one of the symbols of the eontemporary femininity. The popular literature refers to the high heel shoes as eausers of the inerease of the lumbar lordosis, in eompensation the scientifie literature shows the reetifieation of that eurvature. Diserepancies also appeared in relation to the aetivity of the muscles spine ereetors and gastroenêmius, when if did use of high heel shoes. The present work had as objeetive analyzes the angle of the lumbar eurvature of the spine through digital images (ICC = 0.96) through the program ALCIMAGEM and to investigate the eleetromyographie aetivity of the muscles longuissimus dorsal and ilioeostalis lumbar (spine ereetors) as well as the portions lateral and medial of the muscle gastroenêmius, bilaterally. Were evaluate twenty four volunteers barefoot and putting on shoes with high heels of 1 em, 5 em and 10 em of height and of different models, divided in group (1) they used high heel shoes daily and group (2) they didn't use high heel shoes daily. The results presented the oeeurrenee of the reetifieation of the lumbar lordosis, not having differenees signifieants among the groups (p>0,05). The largest reaehed angle of lumbar reetifieation was with the shoe of fine high heels of 10 em of height. The muscle gastroenêmius was shown more eleetromyographie aetivate. The group (1) it presented higher eleetromyographie aetivity than group 2. Was eoncluded that the use of high heel shoes doesn't generate lumbar hiperlordosis, the muscles leg were more eleetromyographie aetive eompared to the low baek muscles and the women used high heel shoes daily it presented higher eleetromyographie activityMestradoBiologia e Patologia Buco-DentalMestre em Anatomi

Correlation of six-minute walking performance with quality of life is domain- and gender-specific in healthy older adults.

We analyzed the relationship between performance on the 6-min walk test (6MWT) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in older subjects. Our secondary aim was to determine the distance to be completed on the 6MWT for the subject to achieve a score of 50 on the Short Form (36) Health Survey (SF-36). Associations were tested using linear correlation and multivariate linear regression. Participants were 130 healthy older individuals. The predictive performance of the 6MWT based on an SF-36 score of 50 was assessed using a receiver operating characteristic curve and its area under curve (AUC). Associations were observed between physical functioning, role-emotional, social functioning, vitality, general health score, and 6MWT performance in women, after adjusting for confounding variables (coefficients: 0.57, 0.38, 0.40, and 0.46, respectively; p < 0.05). No association was found for men. The distance for the 6MWT to predict an SF-36 score of 50 was 481 m for men in the physical functioning (AUC: 0.79) and role-physical (AUC: 0.84) domains, and 420 m for women in role-emotional (AUC: 0.75), role-physical (AUC: 0.80), and general health (AUC: 0.80) domains. Our results indicate that superior 6MWT performance may be associated with better HRQoL in several domains in only healthy older women. No association between 6MWT performance and role-emotional, mental health, or vitality domains was found. We suggest that a score of 50 is represented by a 6MWT distance of 481 m for men and 420 m for women, at least in the role-physical domain
