A Practical Guide Using a Variety of Instructional Methods for Teaching Reading to Gifted Students

    Get PDF
Gifted students spend most of their school day, if not all, learning in the regular classroom. Often, this environment is not conducive to their learning needs, and there is a lack of readily available supplemental materials that teachers can use to meet the needs of the gifted students. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to create a handbook that provides different strategies for teachers to use when teaching gifted students in the regular classroom. The project contains five thematic units that incorporate and utilize literature and comprehension strategies. This project first focuses definitions and identifiers of gifted students academically and socially. Next, it examines motivational ideas used to encourage gifted reading students in the classroom. Finally, included is a discussion of different instructional methods and strategies to educate gifted students academically and socially with an emphasis in reading

Cowpeas are attacked by 24species of nematodes distributed among 15 general. Fifteen of these 24 species of plant-parasitic nematodes have been founding Nigeria. The most destructive on local cowpea are three species of the root-knot nematode. The root-knot nematodes are also the most wide spreading Nigeria being found abundantly in all states. The reinform nematode has also been proved capable of reducing cowpea yields in Nigeria and is widely distributed. Both kinds of nematode scan cause yield reductions of 20 to 30percent.Thelife cycles of the root-knot nematodes and the reniform nematode have been studied for Nigeria and are essentially the same as reported in the literature for other tropical countries

Previous Experiences with Epilepsy and Effectiveness of Information to Change Public Perception of Epilepsy

    Get PDF
Differences with regard to the effectiveness of health information and attitude change are suggested between people with direct, behavioral experiences with a health topic and people with indirect, nonbehavioral experiences. The effects of three different methods of health education about epilepsy, frequently used in health education practice, are assessed in a pretest posttest design with control groups, controlling for experiences with epilepsy. Subjects were 132 students from teacher-training colleges. After all treatments, attitudes, and knowledge about epilepsy were changed in a positive way. Treatments were found to be equally effective. Before treatment, direct behavioral experiences were related to knowledge and a more positive attitude towards epilepsy. After treatment, subjects with direct behavioral experiences with epilepsy showed less change of attitude and knowledge as compared with subjects with indirect experiences. Direct experiences appear to restrain the processing of new information and attitude change
