adventure we take on towards discovering the threads that connect us as teacher-writers with the
craftsman, this medieval figure that’s characterized by the compromise with their labour and
discipline of their task. We put at display our experience with writing and it’s dynamics inside the
University of Antioquia, as well as our path through what constituted the writing workshop
Artesanos del Lenguaje, an experience that threaded around image and shape. We propose to think
of an artisanal writing, where the shape, or body, of words is cultivated and elaborated like a craft.
This paper is an ode to writing, to the work it takes to find the right words, the fun there is in
playing with the letters, switch them up, stain them, strike them, paint them, give them shape.

Along the fact that some of the paleontological sites are located near the coast, the difficulty of their preservation is increased. In this work we present the use of the 3D digitalization technique called photogrammetry for the first time in the Canary Islands. The chosen fossil site was Igueste de San Andrés, located inside the Anaga Biosphere Reserve (Tenerife, Canary Islands), which was recently proposed to become a site of Cultural Interest (Palaentological Zone). This fossil site was selected because of its complexity to test conventional photogrammetry usefulness. As a result, it was obtained that in cases of extensive and complex coastal deposits such as the one studied, models may be improved by using drones. Likewise, it is proposed the creation of a digital catalogue as a monitoring, preservation and dissemination tool for the canarian paleontological heritageEl registro fósil de Canarias tiene una gran relevancia y una naturaleza excepcional debido a su conservación en un contexto de islas oceánicas y volcánicas activas.
A new miocene–pliocene ichnotaxon for vermetid anchoring bioerosion structures
A revision of Renichnus arcuatus Mayoral, 1987, the vermetid attachment
etching trace fossil (fixichnia), is presented here with an emended diagnosis.
Renichnus arcuatus should be used only for nested reniform depressions
arranged in linear series or solitary ones. A new ichnotaxon, Santichnus
mayorali ichnogen. et ichnosp. nov., is described to name a bioerosion
structure that previous authors included under R. arcuatus. The new trace
fossil comes from the Miocene–Pliocene deposits from Fuerteventura and
Lanzarote, Canary Islands, and is characterized as a shallow canal, semicircular
in cross-section that occurs on the surface of hard substrates. Santichnus
mayorali follows a logarithmic spiral path that may depart in its outer whorl in a
somewhat straight shaft that becomes recurved back toward the spiral. From an
actualistic point of view, this new ichnotaxon is interpreted as the anchorage
bioerosion structure of vermetid gastropods. Given the close relationship
between the two ichnotaxa (Renichnus and Santichnus) that share vermetid
gastropods as their tracemakers, it is proposed that they should be considered
as compound trace fossils when they occur interconnected

First nearly complete skull of Gallotia auaritae (lower-middle Pleistocene, Squamata, Gallotiinae) and a morphological phylogenetic analysis of the genus Gallotia
The Canary Islands are an Atlantic archipelago known for its high number of endemic species. Among the most known endemic vertebrate species are the giant lizards of the genus Gallotia. We describe the cranial osteology of the first almost complete and articulated fossil skull of the taxon Gallotia auaritae, recovered from the lower-middle Pleistocene of the La Palma island. In this work, X-ray computed microtomography images were used to perform an exhaustive phylogenetic analysis where most of the extant and fossil species of the genus Gallotia were included for first time. This analysis recovered a monophyletic Gallotia clade with similar topology to that of molecular analyses. The newly described specimen shares some characters with the group formed by G. bravoana, G. intermedia and G. simonyi, G. auaritae, and its position is compatible with a referral to the latter. Our study adds new important data to the poorly known cranial morphology of G. auaritae, and the phylogenetic analysis reveals an unexpected power of resolution to obtain a morphology-based phylogeny for the genus Gallotia, for inferring the phylogenetic position of extinct species and for helping in the identification of fossil specimens.Fil: Cruzado Caballero, Penélope. Role of Exocrine and Endocrine Insufficiency in the Management of Patients with Chronic Pancreatitis
Background: Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency results from the destruction of the pancreatic
parenchyma and is diagnosed by using direct or indirect tests, both of which have shortcomings.
Chronic pancreatitis is the most frequent cause of this pathology in adults. Methods: Patients meeting
radiological or histological diagnostic criteria of chronic pancreatitis are enrolled and the stool elastase
test is conducted, considering fecal elastase levels >200 µg/g to represent normal pancreatic function,
and levels <200 µg/g to indicate the presence of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Additionally,
we determine the body mass index of the patients and study their nutritional status and main
biochemical and hematological variables, including their glucose and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels.
Results: Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency is detected in 60% of the patients. Among these, 83.3% are
severe cases, and 72% of the latter also are diagnosed with endocrine pancreatic insufficiency (diabetes
mellitus). During the nutritional status study, HbA1c levels are significantly higher, and magnesium
and prealbumin levels are significantly lower in patients with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency than
in those without this disease. Conclusions: Exocrine and endocrine pancreatic insufficiency are highly
prevalent among patients with chronic pancreatitis and an early diagnosis of these diseases is vital to
improve the clinical management of these patients and reduce their risk of mortality.Junta de Andalucia

3d fossils and climate change: Innovative experience in environmental sciences
Clear concepts, technological updates and the usefulness of the didactic resources of the environment are presented, as a common thread on local solutions to rapid changes in nature, and the consequences of a global climate change towards a progressive warming. For this purpose, a workshop entitled «Fossils and Climate Change» was held with a group of 40 Environmental Science students. This workshop consists of two sessions, one informative and another practice with real fossils, and models and 3D replicas, selected from the Neogene and Quaternary fossil record of the Canary Islands (last 23 million years). For the validation of the data of the surveys to the students on the motivation and creativity of the workshop, a previous questionnaire of affection and knowledge was used; In addition, after the workshop, a learning questionnaire was completed. The results are significant, highlighting among them, for their originality, the use of 3D models that favors the distinction of taxa at the species level. It is evident the interest of the students to learn about 3D technology, and that knowledge of Climate Change through fossils is valued as a motivating and creative way for their learning.Fil: Castillo Ruiz, Carolina. Shearwater Eggs in Lobos 3, a Holocene Site of Fuerteventura (Canary Islands)
Two eggs (L29 and N28) were recovered in the Holocene site of Lobos 3, (Islote de Lobos, north Fuerteventura, Canary Islands), the site has been interpreted as a purple dye workshop from the Early Roman Empire Epoch. For the first time, eggs from a Holocene deposit of the Canary Islands have been analyzed in terms of size, shape, and biomineral structure, and studied on the basis of several thin sections and SEM analysis. The analysis of the remains allowed the assignation of both eggs to Procellariidae birds, thanks to the relative proportion of the eggshell layers and the vesiculation patterns. The size of the eggs allowed the assignation of L29 to cf. Calonectris/Puffinus, and to cf. Puffinus for N28. The absence of more structural analysis on Procellariiformes eggshells prevent a more specific assignation. The accumulation pattern of the eggs is compatible with a seasonal occupation pattern of the Roman site
The Paleontology Area of La Laguna University has been developing a collection of
digital models of fossils in order to use them in education and divulgation. It has
been shown that the use of digital models are effective in getting closer the general
public to the results obtained in scientific research. Based on the experience gained
in previous work where multimedia contents were created from fossil invertebrate
materials, the Paleontology Area has started a new project with present and fossils
remains of endemic giant lizards from the Canary Islands belonging to the Ga-
llotia genus. The project consists of two stages: firstly, scientific information will be
obtained and secondly in which the results will be adapted to generate multimedia
contents. The first results of the project were microtomographies, modeling and
impressions of specimens under study. This stage has been successfully carried
out. Moreover, the study and acquisition of paleobiological information that will
be used in both phases has begun
