Frequency and phase modulation performance of an injection-locked CW magnetron.

    Get PDF
It is demonstrated that the output of a 2.45-GHz magnetron operated as a current-controlled oscillator through its pushing characteristic can lock to injection signals in times of the order of 100-500 ns depending on injection power, magnetron heater power, load impedance, and frequency offset of the injection frequency from the natural frequency of the magnetron. Accordingly, the magnetron can follow frequency and phase modulations of the injection signal, behaving as a narrow-band amplifier. The transmission of phase-shift-keyed data at 2 Mb/s has been achieved. Measurements of the frequency response and anode current after a switch of phase as a function of average anode current and heater power give new insight into the locking mechanisms and the noise characteristics of magnetrons

A Systematic Investigation of Light Heavy-Ion Reactions

We introduce a novel coupling potential for the scattering of deformed light heavy-ion reactions. This new approach is based on replacing the usual first-derivative coupling potential by a new, second derivative coupling potential in the coupled-channels formalism. The new approach has been successfully applied to the study of the 12^{12}C+12^{12}C, 12^{12}C+24^{24}Mg, 16^{16}O+28^{28}Si and 16^{16}O+24^{24}Mg systems and made major improvements over all the previous coupled-channels calculations for these systems. This paper also shows the limitations of the standard coupled-channels theory and presents a global solution to the problems faced in the previous theoretical accounts of these reactions.Comment: 7 pages with 4 figure

Some exact solutions with torsion in 5-D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

Exact solutions with torsion in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity are derived. These solutions have a cross product structure of two constant curvature manifolds. The equations of motion give a relation for the coupling constants of the theory in order to have solutions with nontrivial torsion. This relation is not the Chern-Simons combination. One of the solutions has a AdS2×S3AdS_2\times S^3 structure and is so the purely gravitational analogue of the Bertotti-Robinson space-time where the torsion can be seen as the dual of the covariantly constant electromagnetic field.Comment: 19 pages, LaTex, no figures. Heun equation, Teukolsky equation, and type-D metrics

Starting with the whole class of type-D vacuum backgrounds with cosmological constant we show that the separated Teukolsky equation for zero rest-mass fields with spin s=±2s=\pm 2 (gravitational waves), s=±1s=\pm 1 (electromagnetic waves) and s=±1/2s=\pm 1/2 (neutrinos) is an Heun equation in disguise.Comment: 27 pages, corrected typo in eq.
