We present 3 case s of infected pseudoarthrosis of the tibia and 2 postraumatic
bone necrosis in which after radical resection of the infected or necrotic bone
fragment, a severe bone defect remained. The treatment consisted of transporting a
fragment of the same bone using the external fixator according to the Ilizarov technique.
In all cases consolidation and new bone formation wer e achieved. In one case, and
infection of the regenerated bone occurred, which was treated with drainage and grafting
with homologous cancellous bone , and posterior covering with a flap of rotated
medial gastrocnemius and skin graft. We conclude that bone transpor t is a safe method,
that the new formed bone is of great quality and that it is a relatively rapid treatment
for severe bone defects due to a traumatic or infectious aetiology
Diagnóstico de la EPOC
La presencia de síntomas puede ser extremadamente variable en los pacientes con EPOC, y un diagnóstico firme sólo puede ser confirmado objetivando una limitación al flujo aéreo mediante la realización de una espirometría

The lack of consideration of the social value of these areas, due to their low productive value and low biodiversity, has led to their transformation and disappearance. At the same time, the scientific literature that deals with social preferences for the management of these ecosystems is scarce, despite the need to manage these spaces to face the future adverse effects of climate change. This gap can be reduced by establishing a framework for the socio-economic valuation of the Badlands. Therefore, these paper aims to evaluate the social demand for the implementation of management measures to ensure Badlands protection, using as a case study the Region of Murcia Badlands (SE Spain). To this end, a survey was carried out among a representative sample of households in this region; the willingness to pay (WTP) to protect such singular ecosystems and the factors that influence their valuation were studied, especially the spatial component, analysing in detail the protest behaviour (PB). The results show a strong PB in the population (44.29 % of the sample), with a mean WTP of 15.93 €/household/year. Despite the population's preference for the promotion of regulating ESs in eroded areas in general, cultural ESs are more important in the case of Badlands, positively in terms of WTP and negatively for PB. Spatial factors were found to be of great importance in the valuation, showing the existence of local patterns. These results will help decision-makers to achieve more efficient and socially accepted spatial planning in the management of singular eroded areas

This document is the Accepted version of a Published Work that appeared in final form in International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. To access the final edited and published work see https:// doi.org/10.3390/ijerph20064747 AA stroke is a neurological condition with a high impact in terms of physical disability in the adult population, requiring specific and effective rehabilitative approaches. Virtual reality (VR), a technological approach in constant evolution, has great applicability in many fields of rehabilitation, including strokes. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of a traditional neurological physiotherapy-based approach combined with the implementation of a specific VR-based program in the treatment of patients following rehabilitation after a stroke. Participants (n = 24) diagnosed with a stroke in the last six months were randomly allocated into a control group (n = 12) and an experimental group (n = 12). Both groups received one-hour sessions of neurological physiotherapy over 6 weeks, whilst the experimental group was, in addition, supplemented with VR. Patients were assessed through the Daniels and Worthingham Scale, Modified Ashworth Scale, Motor Index, Trunk Control Test, Tinetti Balance Scale, Berg Balance Scale and the Functional Ambulation Classification of the Hospital of Sagunto. Statistically significant improvements were obtained in the experimental group with respect to the control group on the Motricity Index (p = 0.005), Trunk Control Test (p = 0.008), Tinetti Balance Scale (p = 0.004), Berg Balance Scale (p = 0.007) and the Functional Ambulation Classification of the Hospital of Sagunto (p = 0.038). The use of VR in addition to the traditional physiotherapy approach is a useful strategy in the treatment of strokes
Improved faulted phase selection algorithm for distance protection under high penetration of renewable energies
The high penetration of renewable energies will affect the performance of present protection algorithms due to fault current injection from generators based on power electronics. This paper explains the process followed for analyzing this effect on distance protection and the development of a new algorithm that improves its performance in such a scenario. First of all, four commercial protection relays were tested before fault current contribution from photovoltaic system and full converter wind turbines using the hardware in the loop technique. The analysis of results obtained, jointly with a theoretical analysis based on commonly used protection strategy of superimposed quantities, lead to a conclusion about the cause of observed wrong behaviors of present protection algorithms under a high penetration of renewables. According to these conclusions, a new algorithm has been developed to improve the detection of faulted phase selection and directionality on distance protection under a short circuit current fed by renewable energy sources. © 2020 by the author
