Extension of non-minimal derivative coupling theory and Hawking radiation in black-hole spacetime
We study the greybody factor and Hawking radiation with a non-minimal
derivative coupling between the scalar field and the curvature in the
background of the slowly rotating Kerr-Newman black hole.
Our results show that both the absorption probability and luminosity of
Hawking radiation of the scalar field increase with the coupling.
Moreover, we also find that for the weak coupling , the
absorption probability and luminosity of Hawking radiation decrease when the
black hole's Hawking temperature decreases; while for stronger coupling
, the absorption probability and luminosity of Hawking radiation
increase on the contrary when the black hole's Hawking temperature decreases.
This feature is similar to the Hawking radiation in a -dimensional static

The Hesse potential, the c-map and black hole solutions
We present a new formulation of the local c-map, which makes use of the real
formulation of special Kahler geometry and the associated Hesse potential. As
an application we use the temporal version of the c-map to derive the black
hole attractor equations from geometric properties of the scalar manifold, and
we construct various stationary solutions for four-dimensional vector
multiplets by lifting instanton solutions of the time-reduced theory.Comment: 76 pages. Second revised version: substantial extension. Further

Duality covariant non-BPS first order systems
We study extremal black hole solutions to four dimensional N=2 supergravity
based on a cubic symmetric scalar manifold. Using the coset construction
available for these models, we define the first order flow equations implied by
the corresponding nilpotency conditions on the three-dimensional scalar momenta
for the composite non-BPS class of multi-centre black holes. As an application,
we directly solve these equations for the single-centre subclass, and write the
general solution in a manifestly duality covariant form. This includes all
single-centre under-rotating non-BPS solutions, as well as their

Hepatitis B virus infection in Haemodialysis Centres from Santa Catarina State, Southern Brazil. Predictive risk factors for infection and molecular epidemiology.
BACKGROUND: Patients under haemodialysis are considered at high risk to acquire hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Since few data are reported from Brazil, our aim was to assess the frequency and risk factors for HBV infection in haemodialysis patients from 22 Dialysis Centres from Santa Catarina State, south of Brazil. METHODS: This study includes 813 patients, 149 haemodialysis workers and 772 healthy controls matched by sex and age. Serum samples were assayed for HBV markers and viraemia was detected by nested PCR. HBV was genotyped by partial S gene sequencing. Univariate and multivariate statistical analyses with stepwise logistic regression analysis were carried out to analyse the relationship between HBV infection and the characteristics of patients and their Dialysis Units. RESULTS: Frequency of HBV infection was 10.0%, 2.7% and 2.7% among patients, haemodialysis workers and controls, respectively. Amidst patients, the most frequent HBV genotypes were A (30.6%), D (57.1%) and F (12.2%). Univariate analysis showed association between HBV infection and total time in haemodialysis, type of dialysis equipment, hygiene and sterilization of equipment, number of times reusing the dialysis lines and filters, number of patients per care-worker and current HCV infection. The logistic regression model showed that total time in haemodialysis, number of times of reusing the dialysis lines and filters, and number of patients per worker were significantly related to HBV infection. CONCLUSIONS: Frequency of HBV infection among haemodialysis patients at Santa Catarina state is very high. The most frequent HBV genotypes were A, D and F. The risk for a patient to become HBV positive increase 1.47 times each month of haemodialysis; 1.96 times if the dialysis unit reuses the lines and filters > or = 10 times compared with haemodialysis units which reuse < 10 times; 3.42 times if the number of patients per worker is more than five. First-order flows and stabilisation equations for non-BPS extremal black holes
We derive a generalised form of flow equations for extremal static and
rotating non-BPS black holes in four-dimensional ungauged N = 2 supergravity
coupled to vector multiplets. For particular charge vectors, we give
stabilisation equations for the scalars, analogous to the BPS case, describing
full known solutions. Based on this, we propose a generic ansatz for the
stabilisation equations, which surprisingly includes ratios of harmonic

The extremal black holes of N=4 supergravity from so(8,2+n) nilpotent orbits
We consider the stationary solutions of N=4 supergravity coupled to n vector
multiplets that define linear superpositions of non-interacting extremal black
holes. The most general solutions of this type are derived from the graded
decompositions of so(8,2+n) associated to its nilpotent orbits. We illustrate
the formalism by giving explicitly asymptotically Minkowski non-BPS solutions

Modulated Instability in Five-Dimensional U(1) Charged AdS Black Hole with R**2-term
We study the effect of R**2 term to the modulated instability in the U(1)
charged black hole in five-dimensional Anti-de Sitter space-time. We consider
the first-order corrections of R**2 term to the background and the linear order
perturbations in the equations of motion. From the analysis, we clarify the
effect of R**2 term in the modulated instability, and conclude that
fluctuations are stable in the whole bulk in the range of values the

Stringy effects in black hole decay
We compute the low energy decay rates of near-extremal three(four) charge
black holes in five(four) dimensional N=4 string theory to sub-leading order in
the large charge approximation. This involves studying stringy corrections to
scattering amplitudes of a scalar field off a black hole. We adapt and use
recently developed techniques to compute such amplitudes as near-horizon
quantities. We then compare this with the corresponding calculation in the
microscopic configuration carrying the same charges as the black hole. We find
perfect agreement between the microscopic and macroscopic calculations; in the
cases we study, the zero energy limit of the scattering cross section is equal
to four times the Wald entropy of the black hole.Comment: 32 page
