Geochemistry of Sediment Samples at TA-54, Los Alamos National Laboratory
A statistical evaluation of sediment data from Technical Area 54, Los Alamos National Laboratory, was used to examine the relation of concentrations of a series of inorganic and radionuclide analytes to general geographic setting and sediment texture. Significant differences exist between results from the north and south sides of Mesita del Buey, with analyte concentrations being generally higher to the north. These differences probably result primarily from variations in background levels in the source materials for the sediments, perhaps reflecting finer particle sizes and/or better developed soils on the north side of the mesa
A note on a result of Liptser-Shiryaev
Given two stochastic equations with different drift terms, under very weak
assumptions Liptser and Shiryaev provide the equivalence of the laws of the
solutions to these equations by means of Girsanov transform. Their assumptions
involve both the drift terms. We are interested in the same result but with the
main assumption involving only the difference of the drift terms. Applications
of our result will be presented in the finite as well as in the infinite

Generative technologies for model animation in the TopCased platform
International audienceDomain Specific Modeling Languages (DSML) are more and more used to handle high level concepts, and thus bring complex software development under control. The increasingly recurring definition of new languages raises the problem of the definition of support tools such as editor, simulator, compiler, etc. In this paper we propose generative technologies that have been designed to ease the development of model animation tools inside the TopCased platform. These tools rely on the automatically generated graphical editors of TopCased and provide additional generators for building model animator graphical interface. We also rely on an architecture for executable metamodel (i.e., the TopCased model execution metamodeling pattern) to bind the behavioral semantics of the modeling language. These tools were designed in a pragmatic manner by abstracting the various model animators that had been hand-coded in the TopCased project, and then validated by refactoring these animators
Harvest strategy evaluation to optimise the sustainability and value of the Queensland scallop fishery. Queensland scallop fishery - FRDC Project No 2006/024 Final Report
Objective
1. Measure spatial and temporal trawl frequency of scallop grounds using VMS data. This will provide a relative measure of how often individual undersized scallops are caught and put through a tumbler
2. Estimate discard mortality and growth rates for saucer scallops using cage experiments.
3. Evaluate the current management measures, in particular the seasonal closure, rotational closure and seasonally varying minimum legal sizes using stock assessment and management modeling models. Recommend optimal range of management measures to ensure long-term viability and value of the Scallop fishery based on a formal management strategy evaluation.
Outcomes acheived to date:
1. Improved understanding of the survival rates of discarded sub-legal scallops;
2. Preliminary von Bertalanffy growth parameters using data from tagged-and-released scallops;
3. Changing trends in vessels and fishing gear used in the Queensland scallop fishery and their effect on scallop catch rates over time using standardised catch rates quantified;
4. Increases in fishing power of vessels operating in the Queensland scallop fishery quantified;
5. Trawl intensity mapped and quantified for all Scallop Replenishment Areas;
6. Harvest Strategy Evaluations completed
Study of ATLAS sensitivity to FCNC top decays
The ATLAS experiment sensitivity to top quark Flavour Changing Neutral
Current (FCNC) decays was studied at LHC using ttbar events. While one of the
top quarks is expected to follow the dominant Standard Model decay t->bW, the
other decays through a FCNC channel, i.e. t-> Z u(c), t-> gamma u(c) or t-> g
u(c). Different types of analyses, applied to each FCNC decay mode, were
compared. The FCNC branching ratio sensitivity (assuming a 5sigma signal
significance) and 95% confidence level limits on the branching ratios (in the
hypothesis of signal absence) were obtained
Anisotropy parameters of superconducting MgB
Data on macroscopic superconducting anisotropy of MgB are reviewed. The
data are described within a weak coupling two-gaps anisotropic s-wave model of
superconductivity. The calculated ratio of the upper critical fields
increases with decreasing temperature in
agreement with available data, whereas the calculated ratio of London
penetration depths decreases to reach

Observability of Switched Linear Systems in Continuous Time
We study continuous-time switched linear systems with unobserved and exogeneous mode signals. We analyze the observability of the initial state and initial mode under arbitrary switching, and characterize both properties in both autonomous and non-autonomous cases
Magnetic Phase Diagram of GdNi2B2C: Two-ion Magnetoelasticity and Anisotropic Exchange Couplings
Extensive magnetization and magnetostriction measurements were carried out on
a single crystal of GdNi2B2C along the main tetragonal axes. Within the
paramagnetic phase, the magnetic and strain susceptibilities revealed a weak
anisotropy in the exchange couplings and two-ion tetragonal-preserving
alpha-strain modes. Within the ordered phase, magnetization and
magnetostriction revealed a relatively strong orthorhombic distortion mode and
rich field-temperature phase diagrams. For H//(100) phase diagram, three
field-induced transformations were observed, namely, at: Hd(T), related to the
domain alignment; Hr(T), associated with reorientation of the moment towards
the c-axis; and Hs(T), defining the saturation process wherein the exchange
field is completely counterbalanced. On the other hand, For H//(001) phase
diagram, only two field-induced transformations were observed, namely at: Hr(T)
and Hs(T). For both phase diagrams, Hs(T) follows the relation
Hs[1-(T/Tn)^2]^(1/2)kOe with Hs(T-->0)=128.5(5) kOe and Tn(H=0)=19.5 K. In
contrast, the thermal evolution of Hr(T) along the c-axis (much simpler than
along the a-axis) follows the relation Hr[1-T/Tr]^(1/3) kOe where
Hr(T-->0)=33.5(5) kOe and Tr(H=0)=13.5 K. It is emphasized that the
magnetoelastic interaction and the anisotropic exchange coupling are important
perturbations and therefore should be explicitly considered if a complete
analysis of the magnetic properties of the borocarbides is desired
Long Distance Contribution to and Implications for and
We estimate the long distance (LD) contribution to the magnetic part of the
transition using the Vector Meson Dominance approximation
. We find that this contribution may be significantly
larger than the short distance (SD) contribution to and could
possibly saturate the present experimental upper bound on the decay rate, eV. For the decay , which is driven by as well, we obtain an upper bound on the branching ratio from . Barring the possibility that the Quantum Chromodynamics
coefficient be much smaller than 1, also implies the approximate relation .
This relation agrees quantitatively with a recent independent estimate of the
l.h.s. by Deshpande et al., confirming that the LD contributions to are small. We find that these amount to an increase of in
the magnitude of the transition amplitude, relative to the SD
