Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease that has the first choice of treatment medications with antimony as active ingredient. These characteristics justify the search for new compounds with easy administration. In this context, there are quercetin, flavonoid leishmanicidal with chelation power, enabling complexation with metalloids, such as antimony. Thereby, this research aims to prepare and evaluate the complex antimony-quercetin (SbV) in solution and powder form. Precursor materials were quercetin anhydrous (methanolic solution) and potassium hexahydroxoantimonate (V) (aqueous solution), in 1: 1 ratio. After the formation of the complex SbV-QUE SOL (solution), it was dried by rotoevaporation, lyophilization or spray drying. For characterization of SbV-QUE SOL, spectrofluorimetry and UV-Vis spectrophotometry were utilized. In addition, for SbV-QUE powder, X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-Ray analysis (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and fluorescence microscopy were made. In SbV-QUE SOL, an increase of fluorescence and the bathochromic shift in UV-Vis were observed, demonstrating the formation of the complex. In SbV-QUE powder, a difference of crystallinity between precursors and products was perceived, by XRD analysis. Analyzing DX results, a presence of antimony was observed in the samples. FT-IR indicated the binding site of the complex. Finally, the same thermal profile for the powdered complexes was observed, in addition to the micrographs elucidating the surface morphologies of quercetin and SbV-QUE powder. This confirms the characteristic of post-drying fluorescence. Therefore, the formation of the complex was evidenced, which is essential for further investigation of its use, aiming at leishmaniasis treatment

The aim of the present study is to analyze the perception of undergraduate Nursing students regarding the use of the motivating case as a teaching strategy. This is a descriptive, exploratory, qualitative study, carried out from March to November 2021, with 32 students. Initially, an instructional script was used to prepare the motivating case entitled “Systematization of Nursing Care for the patient with kidney disorders”. After it was presented, the students evaluated the relevance, understanding and quality of the strategy, in addition to pointing out their main perceptions. It was found that 97% of the students considered the motivating case as extremely relevant to their training, in addition to being highly understandable. The majority (94%) still rated the strategy as very high quality. However, some students' perceptions exemplify a certain lack of knowledge about the methodology. It is believed that the acceptability of nursing students in the face of the teaching strategy can stimulate its use in the Course and instigate the curiosity and critical sense of nurses in training, given the interdisciplinary approach to content based on social and media materials. In order to certify its impact on the teaching-learning process, it is suggested to carry out studies aimed at evaluating the effects of the motivating case in the acquisition of knowledge in Nursing.O objetivo do presente estudo é analisar a percepção de estudantes da Graduação em Enfermagem frente a utilização do caso motivador como estratégia de ensino.

Background Skin picking disorder is a prevalent disorder frequently comorbid with depression and anxiety, which is underdiagnosed mainly by dermatologists. Assessment of skin picking disorder is based on instruments influenced by the awareness about skin picking disorder and comorbid symptoms. To date, there is no validated instrument for Brazilian individuals nor an instrument to evaluate the severity of skin lesions in an objective way. Objectives Validate the Skin Picking Impact Scale for Brazilian Portuguese and create a photographic measurement to assess skin lesions. Methods The sample was assessed through the Skin Picking Impact Scale translated into Brazilian Portuguese, the Hamilton Anxiety Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Clinical Global Impression Scale. The patients’ skin lesions were photographed. Photos were evaluated regarding active excoriation, crust/bleeding, exulceration, and linear lesions. Results There were 63 patients included. The Skin Picking Impact Scale translated into Brazilian Portuguese had good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.88), which tests of goodness-of-fit, showing a suitable model. The reliability of photographic measurement was 0.66, with a high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.87). Photographic measurement was not correlated with the Skin Picking Impact Scale, the Clinical Global Impression Scale, or comorbid symptoms. Study limitations Lack of a previously validated instrument to evaluate dermatillomania in the Brazilian population for comparison. Conclusion The Skin Picking Impact Scale validated in Brazilian Portuguese is a good instrument to evaluate skin picking disorder. Photographic measurement is a consistent way of assessing skin lesions, but it does not reflect the impact of skin picking disorder on the individual's life

OPTIMIZATION OF SWEET GUAVA (Psidium guajava, L)  USING THE ACCEPTANCE TEST, RESPONSE SURFACE METHODOLOGY AND PREFERENCE MAP

    Get PDF
This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the independent variables concentration of citric acid, concentration of potassium sorbate, and pulp/sugar ratio on consumer acceptance for sweet guava. The results were analyzed using statistical methods such as preference map and response surface methodology to determine the influence of the independent variables. Response surface methodology alone proved insufficient to achieve an optimal formulation for the preparation of sweet guava. Based on preference mapping analysis, consumer preference was observed for treatments using higher concentrations of sugar and citric acid. Parameters of sweetness, appearance and texture influenced consumer preferences.

Skin picking treatment with the Rothbaum cognitive behavioral therapy protocol : a randomized clinical trial

    Get PDF
Introduction: Although behavioral therapies can effectively treat skin picking disorder (SPD), there is no standardized treatment for improving SPD and its comorbidities and there is no group intervention option. This trial aimed to adapt the Rothbaum trichotillomania protocol to SPD (Study 1) and test its efficacy for treating SPD and comorbidities in individual and group formats (Study 2). Methods: The adapted protocol was applied to 16 SPD patients, who were allocated to group or individual treatment (Study 1). Afterwards, 54 patients were randomly allocated to treatment in an individual (n=27) or group format (n=27) (Study 2). In both studies, assessments of SPD severity, anxiety, depression, clinical status and skin lesion severity were performed at baseline and the endpoint. Results: The adapted protocol was feasible in both treatment modalities (Study 1) and led to high SPD remission rates (individual 63%; group 52%), with no significant difference between intervention types (p = 0.4) (Study 2). SPD, anxiety, and depression symptoms and objective patient lesion measures improved after treatment. There was large effect size for SPD symptom improvement in both treatment types (Cohen’s d: group = 0.88; individual = 1.15) (Study 2). Conclusion: The adapted Rothbaum protocol was effective for SPD remission, comorbidities, and skin lesions, both in individual and group formats
