This case study analysed the impact of the global economy on the environment of the Vale do Rio do Sinos region in southern Brazil. Interviews and questionnaires were used to collect data from social, cultural, economic and political agents in this region, and documents about the tanning industry were reviewed and analysed. Global perspectives and local conditions were brought together to understand the causes and consequences of social, political and economic structures and to evaluate the intrinsic association of the tanning industry with the social, historical and cultural development of the Vale do Rio dos Sinos. The behaviour of the local community, where individuals believe that progress is primordially based on industrial development and go to any lengths to achieve it, was also studied. The analysis of industries that have a high contamination potential revealed that dirty industries moved from central to peripheral countries up to the 1980s, but movement is currently internal and occurs between states in Brazil due to several types of incentives

This study discusses the tensions and conflicts in the relationship between environment and society in the Sinos River Basin, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. An environmental disaster in 2006, which resulted in the death of 100 tons of fish in the Sinos River, is the dividing line for this study. A review of documents and field interviews with representatives of the municipal government and companies in the region were used to analyze the impact of public policies on the environment and which deficiencies remain11We thank Malcon Naor Voltz and Ana Arnoldo, undergraduate research grant holders, for their participation in data collection for this study..</p

São ocasionados por toque de telefone (n=114; 87%) e resolução de problemas na unidade (n=107; 81,7%). https://www.springer.com/gp/open-access/authors-rights/self-archiving-policy/2124The goal of this study was to identify connections between bioethical principles, the goals set by the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the foundations for health promotion (HP), particularly when applied to university professors. In its Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3—“to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”—the 2030 Agenda allows for a reflection on the connections between bioethics and HP. Bioethics and HP both value the interactions between and focus on individuals and, in this approach, the drawing of connections between these topics and the 2030 Agenda presents itself represents a way to stimulate and develop useful measures involving health, well-being, quality of life, and happiness. The results suggest that concepts such as respect for personal dignity, care, protection, sustainable actions, prosperity, peace, partnership, and solidarity were reported by professors surveyed on these topics, with impact on seeking health-related measures able to promote individual and collective well-being, quality of life, inclusion and social justice, principle which are related to bioethics and HP, and the foundations of which are clearly correlated with the 2030 Agenda.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
