Structural and magnetic study of a dilute magnetic semiconductor: Fe doped CeO2 nanoparticles
This paper reports the effect of Fe doping on the structure and room
temperature ferromagnetism of CeO2 nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction and
selective area electron diffraction measurement reflects that Ce1-xFexO2 (x =
0.0 - 0.07) nanoparticles exhibit single phase nature with cubic structure and
none of the sample showed the presence of any secondary phase. The mean
particle size calculated by using a transmission electron microscopy
measurement was found to increase with increase in Fe content. DC magnetization
measurements performed at room temperature indicates that all the samples
exhibit ferromagnetism. The saturation magnetic moment has been found to

VELOS : a VR platform for ship-evacuation analysis
Virtual Environment for Life On Ships (VELOS) is a multi-user Virtual Reality (VR) system that aims to support designers to assess (early in the design process) passenger and crew activities on a ship for both normal and hectic conditions of operations and to improve ship design accordingly. This article focuses on presenting the novel features of VELOS related to both its VR and evacuation-specific functionalities. These features include: (i) capability of multiple users’ immersion and active participation in the evacuation process, (ii) real-time interactivity and capability for making on-the-fly alterations of environment events and crowd-behavior parameters, (iii) capability of agents and avatars to move continuously on decks, (iv) integrated framework for both the simplified and advanced method of analysis according to the IMO/MSC 1033 Circular, (v) enrichment of the ship geometrical model with a topological model suitable for evacuation analysis, (vi) efficient interfaces for the dynamic specification and handling of the required heterogeneous input data, and (vii) post-processing of the calculated agent trajectories for extracting useful information for the evacuation process. VELOS evacuation functionality is illustrated using three evacuation test cases for a ro–ro passenger ship
Non-compact QED(3) coupled to a four-fermi interaction
We present preliminary numerical results for the three dimensional
non-compact QED with a weak four-fermion term in the lattice action. Approaches
based on Schwinger-Dyson studies, arguments based on thermodynamic inequalities
and numerical simulations lead to estimates of the critical number of fermion
flavors (below which chiral symmetry is broken) ranging from to
. The weak four-fermion coupling provides the framework for an
improved algorithm, which allows us to simulate the chiral limit of massless

Exactly soluble model for self-gravitating D-particles with the wormhole
We consider D-particles coupled to the CGHS dilaton gravity and obtain the
exact wormhole geometry and trajectories of D-particles by introducing the
exotic matter. The initial static wormhole background is not stable after
infalling D-particles due to the classical backreaction of the geometry so that
the additional exotic matter source should be introduced for the stability.
Then, the traversable wormhole geometry naturally appears and the D-particles
can travel through it safely. Finally, we discuss the dynamical evolution of
the wormhole throat and the massless limit of D-particles.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, revte
Wormhole phase in the RST model
We show that the RST model describing the exactly soluble black hole model
can have a dynamical wormhole solution along with an appropriate boundary
condition. The necessary exotic matter which is usually negative energy density
is remarkably produced by the quantization of the infalling matter fields. Then
the asymptotic geometry in the past is two-dimensional anti-de Sitter(AdS),
which implies the exotic matter is negative. As time goes on, the wormhole
eventually evolves into the black hole and its Hawking radiation appears. The
throat of the static RST wormhole is lower-bounded but in the presence of

ARPES Study of X-Point Band Overlaps in LaB and SmB - Contrast to SrB and EuB
In contrast to our recent finding of an X-point band gap in divalent
hexaborides, we report here that angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy
(ARPES) data shows that the gap is absent for trivalent LaB and is absent
or nearly so for mixed valent SmB. This finding demonstrates a nontrivial
evolution of the band structure from divalent to trivalent hexaborides.Comment: submitted to SCES '0
Supra-nutritional vitamin E supplementation for 28 days before slaughter maximises muscle vitamin E concentration in finisher pigs
A 4 × 3 factorial experiment (n= 8 pigs per treatment combination) was conducted with 96 female Landrace × Large White pigs to examine the required level of dietary vitamin E and optimum feeding duration before slaughter to maximise muscle vitamin E content in the Longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LTL) muscle. The respective factors were four dietary levels of vitamin E (supplemented as dl-α-tocopheryl acetate; 35, 300, 500, and 700 IU/kg) and three feeding durations (14, 28 and 42 days before slaughter). Vitamin E concentration in the LTL was maximised at 6 mg/kg, which was achieved by feeding a 700 IU vitamin E diet for 28 days before slaughter (P < 0.001). There was no further increase in the vitamin E content of the LTL by feeding the high vitamin E diet more than 28 days before slaughter
Room temperature ferromagnetism in chemically synthesized ZnO rods
We report structural and magnetic properties of pure ZnO rods using X-ray
diffraction (XRD), magnetization hysteresis (M-H) loop and near edge x-ray fine
structure spectroscopy (NEXAFS) study at O K edge. Sample of ZnO was prepared
by co-precipitation method. XRD and selective area electron diffraction
measurements infer that ZnO rods exhibit a single phase polycrystalline nature
with wurtzite lattice. Field emission transmission electron microscopy, field
emission scanning electron microscopy micrographs infers that ZnO have rod type
microstructures with dimension 200 nm in diameter and 550 nm in length. M-H
loop studies performed at room temperature display room temperature
ferromagnetism in ZnO rods. NEXAFS study reflects absence of the oxygen
