Non Gaussian extrema counts for CMB maps
In the context of the geometrical analysis of weakly non Gaussian CMB maps,
the 2D differential extrema counts as functions of the excursion set threshold
is derived from the full moments expansion of the joint probability
distribution of an isotropic random field, its gradient and invariants of the
Hessian. Analytic expressions for these counts are given to second order in the
non Gaussian correction, while a Monte Carlo method to compute them to
arbitrary order is presented. Matching count statistics to these estimators is

Entrepreneurial value creation: conceptualizing an exchange-based view of entrepreneurship
4sìopenPurpose: This paper proposes an Exchange-Based View of the value creation process. The Borrowing from marketing literature, the EBV advances that entrepreneurs and stakeholders are tied by exchange relationships, through which they co-create value by reciprocally making and realizing promises of value. Design/methodology/approach: Propositions are developed and offered to advance the role of exchange in the entrepreneurial value creation process. Findings: The authors conceptualize the enterprise as a system of exchange relationships between entrepreneurs and their stakeholders, thus proposing an exchange-based view of entrepreneurship. Advanced radar-interpretation of InSAR time series for mapping and characterization of geological processes
We present a new post-processing methodology for the analysis of InSAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry) multi-temporal measures, based on the temporal under-sampling of displacement time series, the identification of potential changes occurring during the monitoring period and, eventually, the classification of different deformation behaviours. The potentials of this approach for the analysis of geological processes were tested on the case study of Naro (Italy), specifically selected due to its geological setting and related ground instability of unknown causes that occurred in February 2005. The time series analysis of past (ERS1/2 descending data; 1992–2000) and current (RADARSAT-1 ascending data; 2003–2007) ground movements highlighted significant displacement rates (up to 6 mm yr<sup>−1</sup>) in 2003–2007, followed by a post-event stabilization. The deformational behaviours of instable areas involved in the 2005 event were also detected, clarifying typology and kinematics of ground instability. The urban sectors affected and unaffected by the event were finally mapped, consequently re-defining and enlarging the influenced area previously detected by field observations. Through the integration of InSAR data and conventional field surveys (i.e. geological, geomorphologic and geostructural campaigns), the causes of instability were finally attributed to tectonics
Are health literacy and lifestyle of undergraduates related to the educational field? An italian survey
Background: Health literacy (HL) is a fundamental ability to successfully deal with health and illness issues. This study aimed to assess HL among undergraduates from healthcare and non-healthcare degree courses of two Italian universities and the association between their HL, lifestyles, and BMI assumed as health outcome. Methods: The Health Literacy Assessment Tool (HLAT-8) and the Newest Vital Sign (NVS) were used to assess health literacy dimensions. Demographic and anthropometric data, adherence to Mediterranean diet (MD), physical activity levels, and smoking habits were assessed in the enrolled sample to highlight possible associations. Results: A total sample of 806 undergraduates (46% males, mean age 21.01 ± 1.78 years) was recruited. Higher HL scores were found among healthcare rather than non-healthcare students (28.7 ± 4.5 vs. 26.7 ± 4.2 for HLAT-8 and 4.9 ± 1.5 vs. 3.9 ± 1.8 for NVS, p < 0.01). However, healthcare undergraduates were more likely to report unhealthy behaviors. Body Mass Index (BMI) was associated with literacy and numeracy skills only in non-healthcare undergraduates. Significant associations were found between HL scores and adherence to MD in both groups. In the regression analysis, educational field and MD were shown to be predictors of HL scores. Conclusions: Attending a healthcare related degree course was associated with higher HL scores but not with healthy behaviors. This issue should be addressed considering the role that healthcare professionals may have in educating patients towards a healthy lifestyle. Adherence to MD seems to be related to higher HL scores

While social media can be useful for understanding workplace issues, it is important to exercise caution and protect privacy when using it to seek out employees\u27 online activity or as part of the selection process. Instead, social media can be used to identify broader workplace trends, which can then be further explored through anonymous surveys. Future research should also consider the role of newer social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels in voicing workplace concerns
Cellular distribution of aquaporins in testes of normal and cryptorchid dogs: A preliminary study on dynamic roles
Fluid regulation within the male gonad is an important process for promoting sperm differentiation and maturation. Aquaporins (AQPs) are a family of thirteen integral membrane proteins involved in these processes. The expression of several genes of AQPs occurs in the male reproductive tract of humans and other animal species, although there are few studies on domestic animals. In this study, the localization of AQP7, AQP8, and AQP9 as well as the abundances of protein and mRNA transcripts were examined in normal and cryptorchid dog testes. There was immunohistochemical localization of AQP7, AQP8, and AQP9 in both the tubular and interstitial compartments of the normal and retained testes and crytorchid dogs, albeit there was an obvious difference in cellular localization with the testes from the cryptorchid dogs. These results were supported by western blotting and real-time RT-PCR analyses, there was a lesser AQP7 and greater AQP9 abundance of protein and mRNA transcripts in the cryptorchid testis. These findings indicate combined testicular functions of AQPs in cell volume regulation. In addition, with the cryptorchid condition characterized there was a different cellular distribution of AQPs supporting the thought that early detection is important for controlling possible side effects of cyptorchidism, such as pre-neoplastic and carcinogenic outcomes. © 2019 Elsevier B.V
Zeolite-based monoliths for water softening by ion exchange/precipitation process
In this work, the design of a monolithic softener obtained by geopolymer gel conversion is proposed. The softener used consists in a geopolymeric macroporous matrix functionalized by the co-crystallization of zeolite A and X in mixture. The dual nature of the proposed material promotes a softening process based on the synergistic effect of cation exchange and alkaline precipitation. A softening capacity of 90% and 54% for Ca2+ and Mg2+ respectively was attained in 24 h. In fact, the softener reported a Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) value of 4.43 meq g−1. Technical features such as density, porosity and mechanical resistance were also measured. The use of this monolithic softener can improve performance and sustainability of hardness removal from tap water, reducing the production of sludge and adding the possibility to partially regenerate or reuse it
Aquaporins Are Differentially Regulated in Canine Cryptorchid Efferent Ductules and Epididymis
The efferent ductules and the epididymis are parts of the male reproductive system where spermatozoa mature. Specialized epithelial cells in these ducts contribute to the transport of fluids produced by spermatozoa's metabolic activity. Aquaporins (AQPs) have been demonstrated to be expressed in the spermatozoan membrane and testis epithelial cells, where they contribute to regulating spermatozoan volume and transit through environments of differing osmolality. Due to the lack of detailed literature regarding AQP expression in the canine male genital tract, the aim of this study was to investigate both the distribution and expression of AQP7, AQP8, and AQP9 in the efferent ductules and epididymal regions (caput, corpus, and cauda) from normal and cryptorchid dogs by using immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Our results show different patterns for the distribution and expression of the examined AQPs, with particular evidence of their upregulation in the caput and downregulation in the cauda region of the canine cryptorchid epididymis. These findings are associated with a modulation of Hsp70 and caspase-3 expression, suggesting the participation of AQPs in the luminal microenvironment modifications that are peculiar characteristics of this pathophysiological condition
Food quality, sensory attributes and nutraceutical value of fresh “Osteen” mango fruit grown under mediterranean subtropical climate compared to imported fruit
Mango is a fruit with a very short shelf-life due to its rapid ripeness after harvest; it is high in B vitamins, contains some amounts of magnesium, calcium, zinc, and selenium and it is rich in soluble and insoluble fibers. In order to reach the European markets at proper marketable maturity, fruit from tropical countries are harvested at early maturity stage. Although this harvesting practice improves mango postharvest life, fruit reach the market with very low quality, especially in terms of taste. The present study was conducted to evaluate food quality, sensory attributes and nutraceutical value of “Osteen” fresh Mediterranean Italian mango fruit, and imported ones coming from tropical countries. Mango fruit imported from abroad were collected from 5 large-scale organized markets; fresh Italian mango fruit were harvested from a commercial orchard, at green-and mature-ripe stage. Imported and fresh Italian mango fruit were analyzed in terms of firmness, total soluble solids content, titratable acidity, flesh disorders, nutraceutical value, and sensory attributes. Mediterranean Italian mango fruit showed the best quality performances in terms of nutraceutical value and quality attributes. Sensorial analysis confirmed this behavior, these quality attributes, were perceived by the trained panel, that preferred fresh Mediterranean mango fruit
Limits on Primordial Non-Gaussianity from Minkowski Functionals of the WMAP Temperature Anisotropies
We present an analysis of the Minkowski Functionals (MFs) describing the WMAP
three-year temperature maps to place limits on possible levels of primordial
non-Gaussianity. In particular, we apply perturbative formulae for the MFs to
give constraints on the usual non-linear coupling constant fNL. The theoretical
predictions are found to agree with the MFs of simulated CMB maps including the
full effects of radiative transfer. The agreement is also very good even when
the simulation maps include various observational artifacts, including the
pixel window function, beam smearing, inhomogeneous noise and the survey mask.
We find accordingly that these analytical formulae can be applied directly to
observational measurements of fNL without relying on non-Gaussian simulations.
Considering the bin-to-bin covariance of the MFs in WMAP in a chi-square
analysis, we find that the primordial non-Gaussianity parameter is constrained
to lie in the range -70<fNL<91 at 95% C.L. using the Q+V+W co-added maps.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, accpeted for publication in MNRA
