    A comparative study of Curcuma zedoaria and Zingiber zerumbet plantlet production using different micropropagation systems

    Curcuma zedoaria and Zingiber zerumbet plantlets could be micropropagated via induction of multiple shoots from in vitro shoot explants using different culture systems such as the agar-gelled medium cultures, shake flask system and temporary immersion system (TIS). The immersion period in TIS did not influence shoot multiplication rates of both species. However, proliferation medium (MS plus 0.5mg/L BA and 0.5 mg/L IBA) supplemented with different sucrose concentration affected the production of multiple shoots but did not affect the fresh and dried shoot biomass for both species when using TIS. The TIS was able to eliminate hyperhydricity problem encountered when using the shake flask system. However, all the in vitro plantlets of both species produced by the three culture systems survived and grew normally with no morphological changes after acclimatization. This study indicated that TIS was the best choice of in vitro propagation technique for production of normal C. zedoaria and Z. zerumbet plantlets

The bad thing of governance\u27s company in those days causing Indonesian economy being slump. So, every one agree to recovered from adversity, Indonesia have to start with governance good corporate. The main objective of this research was to determine the effect of implementation of good corporate governance (GCG) to return on equity. The purpose of this research is to know about the influence of empirical evidence of Good Corporate Governance practices to the company\u27s financial performance. The independent variable in this research is the implementation of GCG and the dependent variable is the financial performance using a ratio of profitability. The sample in this study were banking sector companies listed in Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) in the periode 2009-2013. The number of sample used were 16 companies listed were taken by purposive sampling. The method of analysis of this research used simple regression with SPSS 20 Program

    Lemahnya kondisi internal Bank seperti kemampuan manajemen yang kurang memadai, pemberian kredit kepada kelompok atau group USAha sendiri serta modal yang tidak dapat menutupi resiko-resiko yang dihadapi oleh bank tersebut menyebabkan kinerja bank menurun. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui dan menilai kinerja keuangan pada BPR Citra Dumoga Manado lewat Laporan Keuangan. Metode yang digunakan Deskriptif Kuantitatif. Pengujian dilakukan menggunakan perhitungan Rasio Keuangan. Sampel yaitu laporan keuangan BPR Citra Dumoga Manado tahun 2009 sampai 2011. Hasil penelitian menunjukan kinerja keuangan BPR Citra Dumoga mengalami peningkatan dilihat dari nilai aset lancar, hutang lancar, total aset, jumlah kredit dan jumlah dana pihak ketiga mengalami peningkatan dari tahun 2009 sampai 2011. Untuk rasio rentabilitas perlu adanya kebijakan-kebijakan internal agar Bank mampu dalam menggunakan pinjaman dan membiayai kegiatan USAhanya, juga kemampuan bank dalam meningkatkan keuntungan USAhanya

    Bacterial infections in Indian cirrhotic patients: a prospective study

    Background: Bacterial infections (BI) are more prevalent in liver cirrhosis (LC), high among hospitalized patients. The aim of this study was to explore the epidemiological pattern of BI in hospitalized patients with LC, and identification the causative agents. Objective of the study was evaluation of therapeutic/empirical approaches for these infections.Methods: Inputs from the body fluid analysis and culture reports were recorded. The Child Pugh score (CPS) was used to assess the severity of liver disease. Antibiotic treatment strategy was analysed, prescribed antibiotics were checked for contraindications using Lexicomp software.Results: Of 60 enrolled patients, four had mixed infection and 55% were culture positive. There was a male preponderance (83.3%). BI was more frequent in those aged 51-60 years (38.3%) and >60 years (35%). Higher proportion of patients (60%) belonged to class C of CPS followed by class B (31.7%). The most common causative organisms identified were E. coli (28.5%), K. pneumonia (14.2%), Enterococcus spp (11.4 %) and less common were K. oxytoca, Coagulase-negative staphylococci, Staphylococcus aureus, gram-positive cocci, gram-negative cocci, P. aeruginosa, S. hemolyticus, ß-hemolytic streptococcus spp. Majority of the subjects had spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (36.7%) followed by urinary tract infection (21%), lower respiratory tract infection (18.3%), sepsis (13.3%), cellulitis (3.3%) and acute gastroenteritis (1.7%). Cephalosporin (61.7%), rifaximin (51.7%), penicillin and β lactamase inhibitors (36.7%) were the common prescribed antimicrobials.Conclusions: There is a positive association between the risk of BI and severity of liver damage

    Structure and function from the circadian clock protein KaiA of Synechococcus elongatus: A potential clock input mechanism

    In the cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus (PCC 7942) the proteins KaiA, KaiB, and KaiC are required for circadian clock function. We deduced a circadian clock function for KaiA from a combination of biochemical and structural data. Both KaiA and its isolated carboxyl-terminal domain (KaiA180C) stimulated KaiC autophosphorylation and facilitated attenuation of KaiC autophosphorylation by KaiB. An amino-terminal domain (KaiA135N) had no function in the autophosphorylation assay. NMR structure determination showed that KaiA135N is a pseudo-receiver domain. We propose that this pseudo-receiver is a timing input-device that regulates KaiA stimulation of KaiC autophosphorylation, which in turn is essential for circadian timekeeping
