    Complex dynamics emerging in Rule 30 with majority memory

    In cellular automata with memory, the unchanged maps of the conventional cellular automata are applied to cells endowed with memory of their past states in some specified interval. We implement Rule 30 automata with a majority memory and show that using the memory function we can transform quasi-chaotic dynamics of classical Rule 30 into domains of travelling structures with predictable behaviour. We analyse morphological complexity of the automata and classify dynamics of gliders (particles, self-localizations) in memory-enriched Rule 30. We provide formal ways of encoding and classifying glider dynamics using de Bruijn diagrams, soliton reactions and quasi-chemical representations

    Reproductive biology of the common torpedo, Torpedo torpedo (Linnaeus, 1758) (Pisces, Torpedinidae) from the coast of Senegal (Eastern Tropical Atlantic)

    Among the five species of genus Torpedo recorded from the coast of Senegal, the common torpedo, Torpedo torpedo is that most cornrnonly caught in the area. Adult males and fernales studied were over 300 mm and 310 mm total length (TL), respectively, with the largest male and the largest female recorded being 445 mm and 550 mm TL respectively. Size at birth was between 102 and 125 mm TL (mean 112.12 mm; s.e.m. 5.58). Weight of eggs ranged frorn 6.2 to 8.0 g (rnean: 7.07; s.e.m. 0.5). Gestation lasts longer, from 6 to 8 rnonths, than in the Mediterranean specimens. A calculated chernical balance of development based on rnean dry weights of the fully developed fetuses and ripe oocytes was 1.58 for T. torpedo. This value shows that this torpedinid is not a pure lecithotrophic species, and the role of the rnother during gestation is not negligible. The fecundity (s.1.) of T. torpedo ranges from 5 to 28 in Senegalese specimens as cornpared to 1 to 9 in Mediterranean specirnens. Male ernbryos and fully developed fetuses are more nurnerous than fernales. Among the free-living specimens, nurnber of males and fernales is practically the same. The cornrnon torpedos from the coast of Senegal are larger and the eggs are heavier than Mediterranean specirnens.     Etude de l’activité antifalcémiante d’extraits de racines de Leptadenia hastata Decne. (Asclepiadacae)

    L’objectif de cette étude est d’évaluer l’activité antifalcémiante d’extraits de racines de Leptadenia hastata sur des hémoglobines falciformes et d’identifier les principes actifs à l’origine de cette activité. La méthode employée étudie la réversibilité des drépanocytes, en fonction du temps d’incubation des extraits par rapport aux témoins (eau physiologique, phénylalanine et arginine) sur des échantillons de sang de patients drépanocytaires homozygotes. Des concentrations de 0,05; 0,5; 5 et 10 mg/ml de quatre extraits (méthanol, hexane, acétate d’éthyle et méthanol résiduel) ont été mises en contact avec des drépanocytes de type SS après avoir provoqué leur falciformation avec une solution à 2% de métabisulfite de sodium. L’évaluation a été effectuée toutes les 30 minutes pendant 120 minutes. Les différents extraits ont montré une activité dosedépendante sur la réversibilité de la falciformation des globules rouges avec plus de 80% d’inversion en 120 minutes pour l’extrait méthanolique, le plus actif. Un screening phytochimique a permis de faire une corrélation entre les flavonoïdes et l’activité antifalcémiante des extraits de Leptadenia hastata.Mots clés : Drépanocytose, hémoglobine, activité antifalcémiante, Leptadenia hastata, flavonoïdes
