The D3/D7 Background and Flavor Dependence of Regge Trajectories
In the context of AdS/CFT with flavor, we consider the type IIB supergravity
solution corresponding to a fully localized D3/D7 intersection. We complete the
standard metric ansatz by providing an analytic expression for the warp factor,
under the assumption of a logarithmically running axion-dilaton. From the gauge
dual perspective, this behavior is related to the positive beta function of the
N=4, d=4 SU(N_c) super Yang-Mills gauge theory, coupled to N_f fundamental N=2
hypermultiplets. We comment on the existence of tadpoles and relate them to the
same gauge theory beta function. Next we consider a classical spinning string
configuration in the decoupling limit of the D3/D7 geometry and extract the
flavor (N_f) dependence of the associated meson Regge trajectory. Including the
backreaction of the D7-branes in the supergravity dual allows for going beyond
the quenched approximation on the dual gauge theory side.Comment: 26 pages, 5 figure
Extended path-indexing
The performance of a theorem prover crucially depends on the speed of the basic retrieval operations, such as finding terms that are unifiable with (instances of, or more general than) some query term. Among the known indexing methods for term retrieval in deduction systems, Path--Indexing exhibits a good performance in general. However, as Path--Indexing is not a perfect filter, the candidates found by this method have still to be subjected to a unification algorithm in order to detect occur--check failures and indirect clashes. As perfect filters, discrimination trees and abstraction trees thus outperform Path--Indexing in some cases. We present an improved version of Path--Indexing that provides both the query trees and the Path--Index with indirect clash an occur--check information. Thus compared to the standard method we dismiss much more terms as possible candidates
Influence of Flank Face Structuring on Cooling, Tool Lifetime and Borehole Quality When Drilling Inconel 718: Physical Simulations and Experimental Validation
When drilling difficult-to-cut materials such as Inconel 718, the drills are exposed to high thermomechanical loads. Due to the low thermal conductivity of the workpiece material, a large amount of the generated heat has to be dissipated by the metal working fluid (MWF). However, the cutting zone is located inside the workpiece, which makes it challenging to provide sufficient MWF to the cutting zone. To solve this, drills with internal cooling channels are commonly used. In this work, the influence of differently structured flank faces on cooling efficiency, tool life, process forces and borehole quality is investigated. The influence of the structures on the cooling was investigated by Computational-Fluid-Dynamics (CFD) simulations. These simulations allow a detailed analysis of the flow conditions inside the borehole and showed that the structuring improved flow conditions, especially near the thermally highly loaded main cutting edge. The improved flow conditions resulted in an extension of the tool life by up to 22 % compared to unstructured drills in experimental investigations
Case report: early aortic valve degeneration associated with interstitial deletion of chromosome 2-46,XX,del (2)(q31.3; q32.2).
Interstitial deletions within the long arm of chromosome 2, involving the 2q31q33 region, are rare but are known to be associated with delays in development, behavioral problems, facial dysmorphism and various hand/foot anomalies.
Here, we describe a case with an interstitial 2q31.3.q32.2 deletion, presenting the previously described phenotype, exhibiting fibromyxoid degeneration of the aortic valve in addition to previously described clinical features.
Interstitial deletion in chromosome 2q31.2q32.3 might be associated to a fibromyxoid degeneration of valvular leaflets generating regurgitation. Patients diagnosed with this mutation may require investigation to rule out a valvular disease
Convective cold pools in long-term boundary layer mast observations
Cold pools are mesoscale features that are key for understanding the organization of convection, but are insufficiently captured in conventional observations. This study conducts a statistical characterization of cold-pool passages observed at a 280-m-high boundary layer mast in Hamburg (Germany) and discusses factors controlling their signal strength. During 14 summer seasons 489 cold-pool events are identified from rapid temperature drops below 22K associated with rainfall. The cold-pool activity exhibits distinct annual and diurnal cycles peaking in July and midafternoon, respectively. The median temperature perturbation is -3.3K at 2-m height and weakens above. Also the increase in hydrostatic air pressure and specific humidity is largest near the surface. Extrapolation of the vertically weakening pressure signal suggests a characteristic cold-pool depth of about 750 m. Disturbances in the horizontal and vertical wind speed components document a lifting-induced circulation of air masses prior to the approaching cold-pool front. According to a correlation analysis, the near-surface temperature perturbation is more strongly controlled by the pre-event saturation deficit (r = -0.71) than by the event-accumulated rainfall amount (r = -0.35). Simulating the observed temperature drops as idealized wet-bulb processes suggests that evaporative cooling alone explains 64 of the variability in cold-pool strength. This number increases to 92 for cases that are not affected by advection of midtropospheric low-Qe air masses under convective downdrafts. © 2021 American Meteorological Society

During the seminar, several participants presented their current
research, and ongoing work and open problems were discussed. Abstracts of
the presentations given during the seminar as well as abstracts of
seminar results and ideas are put together in this paper. The first section
describes the seminar topics and goals in general.

Physics Analysis Expert PAX: First Applications
PAX (Physics Analysis Expert) is a novel, C++ based toolkit designed to
assist teams in particle physics data analysis issues. The core of PAX are
event interpretation containers, holding relevant information about and
possible interpretations of a physics event. Providing this new level of
abstraction beyond the results of the detector reconstruction programs, PAX
facilitates the buildup and use of modern analysis factories. Class structure
and user command syntax of PAX are set up to support expert teams as well as
newcomers in preparing for the challenges expected to arise in the data

Rabl's model of the interphase chromosome arrangement tested in Chinise hamster cells by premature chromosome condensation and laser-UV-microbeam experiments
In 1885 Carl Rabl published his theory on the internal structure of the interphase nucleus. We have tested two predictions of this theory in fibroblasts grown in vitro from a female Chinese hamster, namely (1) the Rabl-orientation of interphase chromosomes and (2) the stability of the chromosome arrangement established in telophase throughout the subsequent interphase. Tests were carried out by premature chromosome condensation (PCC) and laser-UV-microirradiation of the interphase nucleus. Rabl-orientation of chromosomes was observed in G1 PCCs and G2 PCCs. The cell nucleus was microirradiated in G1 at one or two sites and pulse-labelled with 3H-thymidine for 2h. Cells were processed for autoradiography either immediately thereafter or after an additional growth period of 10 to 60h. Autoradiographs show unscheduled DNA synthesis (UDS) in the microirradiated nuclear part(s). The distribution of labelled chromatin was evaluated in autoradiographs from 1035 cells after microirradiation of a single nuclear site and from 253 cells after microirradiation of two sites. After 30 to 60h postincubation the labelled regions still appeared coherent although the average size of the labelled nuclear area fr increased from 14.2% (0h) to 26.5% (60h). The relative distance dr, i.e. the distance between two microirradiated sites divided by the diameter of the whole nucleus, showed a slight decrease with increasing incubation time. Nine metaphase figures were evaluated for UDS-label after microirradiation of the nuclear edge in G1. An average of 4.3 chromosomes per cell were labelled. Several chromosomes showed joint labelling of both distal chromosome arms including the telomeres, while the centromeric region was free from label. This label pattern is interpreted as the result of a V-shaped orientation of these particular chromosomes in the interphase nucleus with their telomeric regions close to each other at the nuclear edge. Our data support the tested predictions of the Rabl-model. Small time-dependent changes of the nuclear space occupied by single chromosomes and of their relative positions in the interphase nucleus seem possible, while the territorial organization of interphase chromosomes and their arrangement in general is maintained during interphase. Concepts, Developments and Advanced Applications of the PAX Toolkit
The Physics Analysis eXpert (PAX) is an open source toolkit for high energy
physics analysis. The C++ class collection provided by PAX is deployed in a
number of analyses with complex event topologies at Tevatron and LHC. In this
article, we summarize basic concepts and class structure of the PAX kernel. We
report about the most recent developments of the kernel and introduce two new
PAX accessories. The PaxFactory, that provides a class collection to facilitate
event hypothesis evolution, and VisualPax, a Graphical User Interface for PAX
objects
