Young adultsâ information behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic: a pilot study
This paper presents the results of a pilot study exploring the information behaviour of young adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pilot study data were collected using semi-structured interviews with five undergraduate students. Questions included what information was needed regarding COVID-19, where and how it was obtained, and how it was evaluated.Analysis. Coding followed a thematic analysis approach. At this early stage, coding involved emergent open coding to identify themes within the data. The information most needed by the participants related to local policies and restrictions (e.g., lockdowns, mask mandates, university policies) as well as policies relating to international travel. The main health related topic was where to get vaccinated. Participants preferred government, university, and mainstream media sources, while largely avoiding social media. They reported various approaches to determining the credibility of sources, including relying on known sites, and prioritizing first-hand sources such as government and public health. Participants also reported that their credibility assessment varied geographically, with government and mainstream media more or less trusted depending on location. The findings provide insight into young adultsâ information behaviour, and provide the basis for the continuation of this study.Peer Reviewe
CCDâbased reflection highâenergy electron diffraction detection and analysis system
A CCDâbased, computer controlled RHEED detection and analysis system that utilizes an onâchip integration technique and onâboard data manipulation is described. The system is capable of in situ timeâresolved measurements of specular and integralâorder intensity oscillations, their phase differences, streak linewidths, and epitaxial layer lattice constants. The digital RHEED techniques are described in the context of Co/Au bilayer, GaAs/GaAs, and InxGa1âxAs/GaAs MBE growth. The system is compared to other RHEED detection devices.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/70680/2/RSINAK-62-5-1263-1.pd

Scaling behavior of giant magnetotransport effects in Co/Cu superlattices
We have observed two forms of scaling in magnetotransport properties of (111) Co/Cu superlattices: (1) the extraoridnary Hall coefficient Rs correlates with the resistivity xx(0) in the form Rsxx2(0), and (2) the magnetothermopower S(H) correlates with the magnetoresistivity xx(H) in the form S(H)/Txx(0)/xx(H). The first effect relates to quantum mechanical side jump while the other relates to interfacial spin-dependent density of states (DOS). These results revel the different roles of bulklike spin-dependent scattering in Co layers and spin-dependent DOS of interfacial layers in causing the observed large positive extraodinary Hall effect and giant longitudinal magnetotransport
Diminished physical function in older HIV-infected adults in the Southeastern U.S. despite successful antiretroviral therapy
As antiretroviral therapy efficacy improves, HIV is gradually being recognized more as a chronic disease within the aging HIV-infected population. While these individuals are surviving into old age, they may, however, be experiencing âaccelerated agingâ with greater declines in physical function than that observed among comparably matched individuals free of HIV. This decline is not well understood and it remains unclear if physical decline correlates with the degree of immunosuppression based on CD4 lymphocyte nadir
