ANALYSIS OF HUMAN MOTION WITH METHODS FROM MACHINE LEARNING
Usually, predefined kinematic parameters are investigated in biomechanical studies of human motion. In recent years, techniques of machine learning have been added to this field of research (Chau, 2001). In this study different dimension reduction methods like Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Fourier Transformation (FT) are investigated as an alternative to common biomechanical approaches in motion analysis
Three-body collisions in Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck theory
Aiming at a microscopic description of heavy ion collisions in the beam
energy region of about 10 A GeV, we extend the Giessen
Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (GiBUU) transport model by including a relativistic
mean field, in-medium baryon-baryon cross sections and three-body collisions.
The model is then compared with experimental data for central Au+Au collisions
at 2-10 A GeV and central Pb+Pb collisions at 30 and 40 A GeV on the proton
rapidity spectra, the midrapidity yields of , and
, and the transverse mass spectra of and .
The three-body collisions increase the inverse slope parameters of the hadron

Feasible combinatorial matrix theory
We show that the well-known Konig's Min-Max Theorem (KMM), a fundamental
result in combinatorial matrix theory, can be proven in the first order theory
\LA with induction restricted to formulas. This is an
improvement over the standard textbook proof of KMM which requires
induction, and hence does not yield feasible proofs --- while our new approach
does. \LA is a weak theory that essentially captures the ring properties of
matrices; however, equipped with induction \LA is capable of
proving KMM, and a host of other combinatorial properties such as Menger's,
Hall's and Dilworth's Theorems. Therefore, our result formalizes Min-Max type
of reasoning within a feasible framework
Revisiting the Red Effect on attractiveness and sexual receptivity: No effect of the color red on human mate preferences
Color-in-Context theory is the first theoretical framework for understanding color effects in human mate preferences, arguing that red clothing enhances attractiveness ratings. Here we present three empirical studies failing to support this prediction. We aimed to extend the current literature by differentiating color effects by temporal context (short-term versus long-term mating). Experiment 1 involved Dutch participants rating a woman in red, white, and black on (sexual) attractiveness. Experiment 2 replicated the first experiment with an American sample. In the final experiment we aimed to replicate a study that did find evidence of a red effect, using a substantially larger sample size. The results from each of the three studies (totaling N= 830 men) fail to support the red effect. We discuss the implications of our results and avenues for future research on red effects and attractiveness
Ultrafast spin dynamics and critical behavior in half-metallic ferromagnet : Sr_2FeMoO_6
Ultrafast spin dynamics in ferromagnetic half-metallic compound Sr_2FeMoO_6
is investigated by pump-probe measurements of magneto-optical Kerr effect.
Half-metallic nature of this material gives rise to anomalous thermal
insulation between spins and electrons, and allows us to pursue the spin
dynamics from a few to several hundred picoseconds after the optical
excitation. The optically detected magnetization dynamics clearly shows the
crossover from microscopic photoinduced demagnetization to macroscopic critical
behavior with universal power law divergence of relaxation time for wide

Mirror Position Determination for the Alignment of Cherenkov Telescopes
Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs) need imaging optics with
large apertures to map the faint Cherenkov light emitted in extensive air
showers onto their image sensors. Segmented reflectors fulfill these needs
using mass produced and light weight mirror facets. However, as the overall
image is the sum of the individual mirror facet images, alignment is important.
Here we present a method to determine the mirror facet positions on a segmented
reflector in a very direct way. Our method reconstructs the mirror facet
positions from photographs and a laser distance meter measurement which goes
from the center of the image sensor plane to the center of each mirror facet.
We use our method to both align the mirror facet positions and to feed the
measured positions into our IACT simulation. We demonstrate our implementation

FACT - Long-term Monitoring of Bright TeV-Blazars
Since October 2011, the First G-APD Cherenkov Telescope (FACT) is operated
successfully on the Canary Island of La Palma. Apart from the proof of
principle for the use of G-APDs in Cherenkov telescopes, the major goal of the
project is the dedicated long-term monitoring of a small sample of bright TeV
blazars. The unique properties of G-APDs permit stable observations also during
strong moon light. Thus a superior sampling density is provided on time scales
at which the blazar variability amplitudes are expected to be largest, as
exemplified by the spectacular variations of Mrk 501 observed in June 2012.
While still in commissioning, FACT monitored bright blazars like Mrk 421 and
Mrk 501 during the past 1.5 years so far. Preliminary results including the Mrk

FACT - Monitoring Blazars at Very High Energies
The First G-APD Cherenkov Telescope (FACT) was built on the Canary Island of
La Palma in October 2011 as a proof of principle for silicon based photosensors
in Cherenkov Astronomy. The scientific goal of the project is to study the
variability of active galatic nuclei (AGN) at TeV energies. Observing a small
sample of TeV blazars whenever possible, an unbiased data sample is collected.
This allows to study the variability of the selected objects on timescales from
hours to years. Results from the first three years of monitoring will be
presented. To provide quick flare alerts to the community and trigger
multi-wavelength observations, a quick look analysis has been installed on-site
providing results publicly online within the same night. In summer 2014,
several flare alerts were issued. Results of the quick look analysis are

Regional investigation of a cyclosporiasis outbreak linked to imported romaine lettuce – Nebraska and Iowa, June–August 2013
A regional, multistate investigation into a June–August 2013 cyclosporiasis outbreak was conducted in Nebraska, Iowa, and neighbouring states. Cases were confirmed on the basis of laboratory and clinical findings. Of 227 cases in Iowa (n = 140) and Nebraska (n=87) residents, 162 (71%) reported dining at chain A/B restaurants – 96% reported house salad consumption. A case-control study identified chain A/B house salad as the most likely vehicle. Traceback was conducted to ascertain production lot codes of bagged salad mix (iceberg and romaine lettuce, red cabbage, and carrots) served as house salad in implicated restaurants. A single production lot code of salad mix supplied by both a common producer and distributor was linked to the majority of confirmed cases in persons reporting regional chain A/B exposure. The salad mix linked to illnesses contained imported romaine lettuce from two separate single-grower fields-of-origin and 51 additional field from another grower
The Costs and Benefits of the Dark Triad: Implications for Mate Poaching and Mate Retention Tactics
The Dark Triad - narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy - have traditionally been considered to be undesirable traits. However, emerging work suggest that not only may there be a positive side to possessing these traits but they may also serve important adaptive functions, even if the strategies associated with them are viewed as socially undesirable. In an online survey (N = 336), we investigated the costs and benefits of the Dark Triad within the domain of mating psychology. The social style and lower order personality traits of the Dark Triad traits facilitated increased mateships in the form of poaching mates from others and being poached oneself to form mateships, pointing to possible benefits of possessing the Dark Triad traits. However, the costside was evidenced with rates of mates abandoning their current relationship for a new one. Mate retention is a problem faced by those with these traits and the tactics used to retain mates were characteristic of the Dark Triad: aggressive and narcisstic.
