Rapidity and pt dependence of identified-particle elliptic flow at RHIC
Elliptic flow has been measured by the BRAHMS experiment as a function of
transverse momentum and pseudorapidity for the Au+Au reaction at sqrt[s_{NN}] =
200 GeV. Identified-particle v2 (eta, pt) values were obtained with the two
BRAHMS spectrometers at pseudorapidities eta approximately equal to 0, 1, and
3.4. The results show that the differential v2(eta, pt) values for a given
particle type are essentially constant over the covered pseudorapidity range.
It is suggested that the dominant cause of the observed fall-off of the
integral v2 values going away from mid-rapidity is a corresponding softening of

Cavity spin optodynamics
The dynamics of a large quantum spin coupled parametrically to an optical
resonator is treated in analogy with the motion of a cantilever in cavity
optomechanics. New spin optodynamic phenonmena are predicted, such as
cavity-spin bistability, optodynamic spin-precession frequency shifts, coherent
amplification and damping of spin, and the spin optodynamic squeezing of light.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
High-flux beam source for cold, slow atoms or molecules
We demonstrate and characterize a high-flux beam source for cold, slow atoms
or molecules. The desired species is vaporized using laser ablation, then
cooled by thermalization in a cryogenic cell of buffer gas. The beam is formed
by particles exiting a hole in the buffer gas cell. We characterize the
properties of the beam (flux, forward velocity, temperature) for both an atom
(Na) and a molecule (PbO) under varying buffer gas density, and discuss
conditions for optimizing these beam parameters. Our source compares favorably
to existing techniques of beam formation, for a variety of applications.Comment: 5 Pages, 4 figure

Italy, 17-19 June,2004.. In this talk, we are going to discuss ion-ion and
deuteron - nucleus RHIC data and show that they support, if not more, the idea
of the new QCD phase: colour glass condensate with saturated parton density. .Comment: 26 pages with 33 figure
Measurement of 10 fs pulses across the entire Visible to Near-Infrared Spectral Range
Tuneable ultrafast laser pulses are a powerful tool for measuring
difficult-to-access degrees of freedom in materials science. In general these
experiments require the ability to address resonances and excitations both
above and below the bandgap of materials, and to probe their response at the
timescale of the fastest non-trivial internal dynamics. This drives the need
for ultrafast sources capable of delivering 10-15 fs duration pulses tuneable
across the entire visible (VIS) and near infrared (NIR) range, 500 nm - 3000
nm, as well as the characterization of these sources. Here we present a single
frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) system capable of self-referenced
characterization of pulses with 10 fs duration across the entire VIS-NIR
spectral range. Our system does not require auxiliary beams and only minor
reconfiguration for different wavelengths. We demonstrate the system with
measurements of pulses across the entire tuning range
Overview of Hard processes at RHIC: high-pt light hadron and charm production
An overview of the experimental results on high-pt light hadron production
and open charm production is presented. Data on particle production in
elementary collisions are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD
calculations. Particle production in Au+Au collisions is then compared to this

Relativistic hydrodynamics with strangeness production
The relativistic hydrodynamic approach is used to describe production of
strangeness and/or heavy quarks in ultrarelativistic heavy ion reactions.
Production processes are important ingredients of dissipative effects in the
hadronic liquid. Beyond viscosity also chemo- and thermo-diffusion processes
are considered. This also allows to specify chemical and thermal freeze-out

Strangeness and heavy flavor at RHIC: Recent results from PHENIX
We report recent results of strangeness and heavy flavor measurements from
PHENIX.
The topics are: Elliptic flow of strangeness and heavy flavor electron
production comparing to the other hadrons, meson production, and an

Quark coalescence in the mid rapidity region at RHIC
We utilize the ALCOR model for mid-rapidity hadron number predictions at AGS,
SPS and RHIC energies. We present simple fits for the energy dependence of

Correlations and fluctuations studied with ALICE
The measurement of particle correlations and event-by-event fluctuations of
physical observables allows to study a large variety of properties of the
matter produced in ultra relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We will present
results for two-particle correlations, mean transverse momentum fluctuations,
