Los debates sobre la realidad socioecológica: No alcanza para todos

Este artículo trata de discutir la nueva realidad socio-ecológica. No se centra mayormente en un análisis acerca de los nuevos fenómenos y aspectos del metabolismo capitalista y su relación e impacto en la naturaleza, sino en el cambio cualitativo de paradigma, que lentamente comienza a ser visible. En ese sentido, el artículo trata de observar la nueva calidad del cambio necesario para enfrentar los grandes desafíos de las fronteras planetarias y los correspondientes cambios socio-ecológicos. La primera parte cuestiona la gestión actual de estos grandes desafíos y la gestión de crisis, en lugar de medidas preventivas que se orientarían hacia posibles futuros y cambios de paradigma. La segunda parte es un breve análisis para revelar opciones para transmitir evidencia sobre temas como el cambio climático. Lo hace desde una perspectiva basada en teorías de la comunicación y experiencias prácticas. Se supone que estas conclusiones son un intento humilde de cómo encontrar posibles nuevas narrativas, que pueden guiarnos a nuevas culturas socioecológicas.This article tries to discuss the new social-ecological reality. It does not focus on major analysis about the new phenomena and aspects of the capitalist metabolism and its relation and impact on nature but on the qualitative change of paradigm, which slowly starts to be visible. In that sense, the article tries to observe this new quality of necessary change to meet the big challenges of planetary boundaries and the corresponding social-ecological changes. The first part puts into question the present management of these big challenges and the management of crisis instead of preventive measures that would be orientated towards possible futures and paradigm shifts. The second part is a brief analysis in order to reveal options to transmit evidence about issues such as climate change. It does so from a perspective based on communication theories and practical experiences. These conclusions are supposed to be a humble attempt on how to possibly find new narratives, which may guide us to new social-ecological cultures

Ensayo sobre la realidad socioecológica: No alcanza para todos

The essay starts of with a personal reflection of a senior researcher who has been investigating on global environmental change since the early beginnings of his career. It then moves to an analysis of the present challenges of humanity and the predominant narratives, which seem to steer our actions and hinder us from mitigating climate change and for staying within the planetary boundaries. Also it points out the role of hyperobjects, such as climate change, which are too big to grasp and too abstract to feel or imagine. In the discussion it opens up the imperative of creating new narratives to tackle the above issues, and reflects on the role of storytelling / future narrations to reach this goal of utmost importance for our planet's - for humanity's sake
