Electrical activity of carbon-hydrogen centers in Si

    Get PDF
The electrical activity of Cs-H defects in Si has been investigated in a combined modeling and experimental study. High-resolution Laplace capacitance spectroscopy with the uniaxial stress technique has been used to measure the stress-energy tensor and the results are compared with theoretical modeling. At low temperatures, implanted H is trapped as a negative-U center with a donor level in the upper half of the gap. However, at higher temperatures, H migrates closer to the carbon impurity and the donor level falls, crossing the gap. At the same time, an acceptor level is introduced into the upper gap making the defect a positive-U center

Molecular docking studies of different phytochemicals obtained from medicinal Plants of Uttarakhand region for identification of potential inhibitors against mucormycosis causing fungal species

    Get PDF
Mucormycosis is an insidious fungal infection caused by members of Mucorales and zygomycotic species. During the last few years, mucormycosis has become the third most common invasive fungal infection in patients with haematological malignancies and organ transplantations. The incidence of mucormycosis is particularly high in patients with immunocompromised health. It has been reported that CotH receptor proteins have a potential role in binding  Rhizopus species with the host cells. Further, CotH1, CotH2, and CotH3 are the spore-coating protein of mucormycosis, which are mostly responsible for the invasion of host cells and causing diseases. The present study aimed to predict the structure of CotH1, CotH2, and CotH3 receptors in Rhizpous delemar using homology modelling on SWISS Server and validated the model based on GMQE and QMEAN scores followed by analysis of the predicted model on Ramachandran plot. Further, molecular docking studies of the predominant 46 phytochemicals found in the medicinal plants of Uttarakhand region, India were done against these three receptors. Autodock vina results have shown that the binding energy value of Curcumin was -8.5 Kcal/mol against CotH1, and the binding energy value of Allosecurinin was  -7.6 Kcal/mol against CotH2 and binding energy value of Isoquercetin was -7.7 Kcal/mol against CotH3. Evaluation of the ADMET parameters has shown the high efficacy of these compounds. The present Insilico study suggests that Curcumin, Allosecurinine, and Isoquercetin are effective lead molecules against the receptors CotH1, CotH2, and CotH3 in the mucormycosis caused by fungal species R. delemar

The Genetic Requirements for Fast and Slow Growth in Mycobacteria

    Get PDF
Mycobacterium tuberculosis infects a third of the world's population. Primary tuberculosis involving active fast bacterial replication is often followed by asymptomatic latent tuberculosis, which is characterised by slow or non-replicating bacteria. Reactivation of the latent infection involving a switch back to active bacterial replication can lead to post-primary transmissible tuberculosis. Mycobacterial mechanisms involved in slow growth or switching growth rate provide rational targets for the development of new drugs against persistent mycobacterial infection. Using chemostat culture to control growth rate, we screened a transposon mutant library by Transposon site hybridization (TraSH) selection to define the genetic requirements for slow and fast growth of Mycobacterium bovis (BCG) and for the requirements of switching growth rate. We identified 84 genes that are exclusively required for slow growth (69 hours doubling time) and 256 genes required for switching from slow to fast growth. To validate these findings we performed experiments using individual M. tuberculosis and M. bovis BCG knock out mutants. We have demonstrated that growth rate control is a carefully orchestrated process which requires a distinct set of genes encoding several virulence determinants, gene regulators, and metabolic enzymes. The mce1 locus appears to be a component of the switch to slow growth rate, which is consistent with the proposed role in virulence of M. tuberculosis. These results suggest novel perspectives for unravelling the mechanisms involved in the switch between acute and persistent TB infections and provide a means to study aspects of this important phenomenon in vitro

Late Triassic continental vertebrates and depositional environments of the Fleming Fjord Formation, Jameson Land, East Greenland

    Get PDF
A diverse assemblage of fossil vertebrates has been discovered in the Fleming Fjord Formation (Malmros Klint and Ørsted Dal Members) in East Greenland between latitudes 71°15'N and 71°50'N. The fauna includes several species of mammals as well as prosauropod (Plateosaurus) and theropod dinosaurs, turtles (cf. Proganochelys), pterosaurs, aetosaurs (Aetosaurus ferratus, Paratypothorax andressi), labyrinthodont amphibians (Gerrothorax, Cyclotosaurus and possibly other taxa) and fishes (including sharks, actinopterygians, coelacanths and lungfish). The association of the genera Aetosaurus, Plateosaurus, Proganochelys, Cyclotosaurus and Gerrothorax is shared with well known European Norian faunas, and confirms the paleogeographic proximity of Greenland and Europe during Late Triassic time. On this evidence, the Ørsted Dal Member may be estimated to be at least as old as mid-Norian, but a comparable age estimate for the underlying Malmros Klint Member cannot be made on the basis of the fauna as presently known. The Malmros Klint Member is characterized by composite cyclicity with four orders of cycles involving silt-rich, ephemeral lake or playa-mudflat systems, loess beds, wave-reworked sand flats, flat pebble conglomerates and paleosols. The rhythmicity and thickness ratios of the beds are evidence that depositional conditions were controlled by Milankovitch cycles, with climatic conditions varying from humid, to dry with seasonal rainfall, to arid. Cyclical sedimentary conditions and climatic fluctuations appear to have continued during the subsequent deposition of the overlying Ørsted Dal Member
