Fra regnskapsfører til rådgiver? : endring i profesjonelle roller

    Get PDF

Pishtacon legendan narraatioita digitalisaation ajan Perussa

Tutkielman aiheena on perulainen pishtacon legenda, jonka historia ulottuu satojen vuosien taakse. Legendassa pishtaco on murhaaja, joka saalistaa alkuperäiskansataustaisia uhrejaan ihmisrasvan takia. Usein pishtacoon viitataan valkoisena, ulkomaalaisena miehenä. Pishtacon legendan kiehtovuus piilee sen uudistumiskyvyssä. Legendan ydin säilyy samana, mutta yksityiskohdat mukautuvat aikakauteen. Kolonialismin kaudella pishtaco oli munkki, joka keräsi rasvaa kirkonkellojen kiillotukseen, nykyisin rasvaa kerrotaan kaupattavan esimerkiksi kansainväliseen kosmetiikkateollisuuteen. Digitalisaation aika etenkin 2000-luvulla on mahdollistanut uudenlaisia tarinankerronnan muotoja.

    The genus Xanthomendoza in Norway

    Get PDF
We distinguish five Xanthomendoza species in Norway, viz., X. borealis, X. fallax, X. fulva, X. oregana, and X. ulophyllodes, based on morphology and molecular evidence. This paper gives an updated taxonomy of the Norwegian species of Xanthomendoza, and addresses previous misconceptions. Xanthomendoza ulophyllodes is reported as occurring in Norway. The species was previously misunderstood in Norway and removed fromthe Nordic checklist. We show that the nuclear internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) is a useful barcode marker for the treated species. We provide a key and short descriptions of the species, with notes on specific issues, ecology, geographic distribution, illustrations, maps, and a DNA reference library (DNA barcoding).publishedVersio

Sensitive triplet exciton detection in polyfluorene using Pd-coordinated porphyrin

    Get PDF
We developed a sensitive spectroscopic method to probe triplet concentration in thin films of polyfluorene (PF) at room temperature. The energy of photoexcited triplet excitons is transferred to the guest metal–organic complex, meso-tetratolylporphyrin-Pd (PdTPP), and detected as phosphorescent emission. The phosphorescence intensity of PdTPP–PF blends is proportional to the independently measured triplet concentration using photoinduced absorption experiments. The high sensitivity of this method allows room temperature detection of triplet excitons in spin-coated polymer films as thin as 10 nm. We found that the triplet lifetime is independent of PdTPP concentration and therefore this method is nearly non-perturbing for the triplet population.

Supporting Initial Teacher Education Students Assessment Literacy and Capability Development

    Get PDF
Recent curricular reform in Ireland has utilised classroom-based assessments as part of the national assessment strategy at the junior level in post-primary education. This calls for teachers to exercise their judgement in relation to their pupils' capability which is recorded for the certified national award of the Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement (JCPA). Ensuring effective assessment in this regard requires the development of assessment literacy and capability in the teaching cohort which starts on the continuum of teacher development at the initial teacher education (ITE) phase. Teacher judgement in assessment is reliant on multiple factors that impact on the assessment outcome. It is therefore important to design components of ITE programmes that provide opportunity to strategically develop this capability for implementation in practice. The case study presented in this paper presents an initial analysis of the practices and experiences of (n=87) Initial Teacher Education (ITE) students as they engage in a peer assessment activity that is part of an assessment literacy and capability development strategy on a technology education ITE programme. This was facilitated through the use of Adaptive Comparative Judgement sessions (ACJ). In these sessions, the participants engaged in the establishment of assessment criteria and implemented them in the holistic assessment of peers' work through the ACJ method along with providing formative feedback and making a summative judgement of the quality of the work. The findings present the usefulness of ACJ in providing pre-service teachers a space to develop assessment literacy and capability through the active and experiential learning approach taken

Functional Evaluation and Development of Novel Agonists and Modulators of Neuronal Ion Channels

This dissertation describes studies of activation of neuronal ion channels and evaluating new ligands to modulate this process. In chapter two, we expanded the binding model of cytisine to the α4β2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. We also determined how C(10)-modification of cytisine impacts the key binding interactions between cytisine and its binding site. To achieve this, we used non-canonical amino acid mutagenesis to probe the electrostatic binding interactions of a novel series of C(10)-cytisine derivatives. In order to perform similar studies in the α3β4 nAChR subtype, we describe the heterologous expression of mouse and human α3β4 nAChRs in Xenopus Laevis oocytes in appendix one. Chapter three describes the development and functional evaluation of a novel series of pyrrolidinoindolines for agonism and modulation of the GABAA receptor. Additionally, we performed mutagenesis studies to identify the binding site of these novel ligands. Appendix two describes a different screen for activation or modulation of GABAA receptors using a set of phenolic compounds implicated in Autism Spectrum Disorder. Chapter four shifts focus to voltage-gated ion channels: in this chapter, the ultimate goal was to photochemically control the activation of VGSCs and make progress towards developing a RubpyC17-based photoswitch that could be used in an artificial retina. To this end, we determined the functional effects of several ruthenium bipyridine analogs on voltage-gated sodium and potassium channels.</p

Immunological backbone of uveal melanoma: is there a rationale for immunotherapy?

    Get PDF
No standard treatment has been established for metastatic uveal melanoma (mUM). Immunotherapy is commonly used for this disease even though UM has not been included in phase III clinical trials with checkpoint inhibitors. Unfortunately, only a minority of patients obtain a clinical benefit with immunotherapy. The immunological features of mUM were reviewed in order to understand if immunotherapy could still play a role for this disease

Transcriptional effect of serotonin in the ganglia of Lymnaea stagnalis

    Get PDF
The serotonin system (5HT) is highly conserved in both vertebrates and invertebrates, and numerous evidence supports a biological link between 5HT and numerous animal function. In the present paper we evaluated the transcriptional effects of a serotonergic stimulation on selected targets involved in 5HT signalling and neurotransmission in the central nervous system of the great pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis. Adult snails were treated acutely (6 h) or chronically (48 h) with either 5-hydroxytrypthophan (5-HTP 1mM), the immediate precursor of serotonin, fluoxetine (FLX 1ĂŽÂĽM), a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, or a combination of two. The central ring ganglia were dissected and used for q-PCR gene expression analysis. Transcription was strongly induced following a chronic, but not an acute, exposure to 5-HTP in the ganglia of Lymnaea. In particular, LymCREB1 and LymP2X mRNA levels were decreased following a 6 h exposure and increased in snails receiving 5-hydroxytryptophan for 48 h. Interestingly, this effect was reduced when snails were exposed chronically to both 5-HTP and FLX, suggesting a role for SERT in mediating the effect of 5-hydroxytryptophan. These data suggest that L. stagnalis is suited to unravel the complexity of the serotonin signaling pathway
