New World Civitas, Contested Jurisdictions and Intercultural Conversation in the Construction of the Spanish Monarchy
Jurisdictional frontiers were created, contested, and negotiated among a wide range of actors, including native Americans and Europeans, with reference to the cities founded in Castilla del Oro (roughly present-day Panama). This research deals, first, with the reshaping of the concept of a city in the New World, based on its inhabitants' sense of civitas. It analyses, secondly, the creation and redefinition of jurisdiction during political conflicts and, third, the construction and maintenance of jurisdiction through local relations with indigenous populations described as "conversation". The analysis of the creation and preservation of local jurisdictions allows for an interpretation of the complexities involved in the configuration of political power and political space from below in the territories claimed by the Spanish Monarchy.Art Empir

Le passage latéral entre les formations de Couvin et de Jemelle (Eifelien) au bord sud Synclinorium de Dinant (Belgique): Introduction du Membre du Vieux Moulin - Formation de Jemelle
Within, the framework of the revision of the geological map of Wallonia (Belgium) and France, our attention was drawn by a stratigraphical unit of shales and siltstones which did not seem yet to be described. The importance of this detrital level for the comprehension of the side passage, within Eifelian, of the Couvin Formation, limestone (in the west) to the Jemelle Formation, terrigenous (in the east) was pointed out by a regional geological survey. The cartography between the localities of Chimay, to the west and of Wellin, to the east, (more than 60 kilometers apart) made it possible to characterize this variation. So, the "Couvin Limestone" recognized on nearly 400 meters thickness in the area of the same name quickly loses its thickness at the meridian of Nismes, 6 kilometers in the east of the stratotype. This reduction of thickness is made in favour of terrigenous sediments. This argillaceous-silty level is identified as a new member of the Jemelle Formation: the "Vieux Moulin" Member, in reference to the old mill located between the localities of Treignes and Najauge where representative outcrops are easily accessible.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
Geological and structural description of the Rochefort area (Dinant Synclinorium, Belgium)
Realised in the framework of the program “Revision of geological maps of Wallonia” the new geological maps “Rochefort - Nassogne” and “Houyet - Han sur Lesse” have formed the basis for this note. They represent a synthesis and the update of geological knowledge gained since the previous edition (1900), both in terms of lithostratigraphy and tectonics. The identification, exploration and mapping of various rock units in this part of the Dinant Syncline have led several generations of geologists to identify the structural grain of the region. The main tectonic elements encountered on this map are: longitudinal structures of predominantly SSW-NNE direction that include folds of different style and order, normal and reverse faults with occasional lateral slip component, and many smaller fractures as the sets of conjugate faults. Sets of transversal (cutting) faults were also recognized. Folds, located on the fringe of the Ardenne generally expose north-verging “plis-en-chaise” style, with axial plane schistosity.Révision des cartes géologiques de la Walloni
