Discrimination of the Healthy and Sick Cardiac Autonomic Nervous System by a New Wavelet Analysis of Heartbeat Intervals
We demonstrate that it is possible to distinguish with a complete certainty
between healthy subjects and patients with various dysfunctions of the cardiac
nervous system by way of multiresolutional wavelet transform of RR intervals.
We repeated the study of Thurner et al on different ensemble of subjects. We
show that reconstructed series using a filter which discards wavelet
coefficients related with higher scales enables one to classify individuals for
which the method otherwise is inconclusive. We suggest a delimiting diagnostic
value of the standard deviation of the filtered, reconstructed RR interval time
series in the range of (for the above mentioned filter), below
which individuals are at risk.Comment: 5 latex pages (including 6 figures). Accepted in Fractal
Polaron Physics in Optical Lattices
We investigate the effects of a nearly uniform Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC)
on the properties of immersed trapped impurity atoms. Using a weak-coupling
expansion in the BEC-impurity interaction strength, we derive a model
describing polarons, i.e., impurities dressed by a coherent state of Bogoliubov
phonons, and apply it to ultracold bosonic atoms in an optical lattice. We show
that, with increasing BEC temperature, the transport properties of the
impurities change from coherent to diffusive. Furthermore, stable polaron
clusters are formed via a phonon-mediated off-site attraction.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Symmetry conserving non-perturbative s-wave renormalization of the pion in hot and baryon dense medium
A non-perturbative s-wave renormalization of the pion in a hot and baryon
rich medium is presented. This approach proceeds via a mapping of the canonical
pion into the axial Noether's charge. The mapping was made dynamical in the
Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov random phase approximation (HFB-RPA). It is shown that
this approach, while order mixing, is still symmetry conserving both in the
baryon free and baryon rich sectors, at zero as well as finite temperature. The
systematic character of this approach is emphasized and it is particularly
argued that it may constitute an interesting alternative for the
non-perturbative assessment of the nuclear matter saturation properties.Comment: Latex, 22 pages, 3 figure
Controllable diffusion of cold atoms in a harmonically driven and tilted optical lattice: Decoherence by spontaneous emission
We have studied some transport properties of cold atoms in an accelerated
optical lattice in the presence of decohering effects due to spontaneous
emission. One new feature added is the effect of an external AC drive. As a
result we obtain a tunable diffusion coefficient and it's nonlinear enhancement
with increasing drive amplitude. We report an interesting maximum diffusion
condition.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures, revised versio
Measuring the temporal coherence of an atom laser beam
We report on the measurement of the temporal coherence of an atom laser beam
extracted from a Rb Bose-Einstein condensate. Reflecting the beam from a
potential barrier creates a standing matter wave structure. From the contrast
of this interference pattern, observed by magnetic resonance imaging, we have
deduced an energy width of the atom laser beam which is Fourier limited by the
duration of output coupling. This gives an upper limit for temporal phase
fluctuations in the Bose-Einstein condensate.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Observation of many-body localization of interacting fermions in a quasi-random optical lattice
We experimentally observe many-body localization of interacting fermions in a
one-dimensional quasi-random optical lattice. We identify the many-body
localization transition through the relaxation dynamics of an
initially-prepared charge density wave. For sufficiently weak disorder the time
evolution appears ergodic and thermalizing, erasing all remnants of the initial
order. In contrast, above a critical disorder strength a significant portion of
the initial ordering persists, thereby serving as an effective order parameter
for localization. The stationary density wave order and the critical disorder
value show a distinctive dependence on the interaction strength, in agreement
with numerical simulations. We connect this dependence to the ubiquitous
logarithmic growth of entanglement entropy characterizing the generic many-body
localized phase.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures + supplementary informatio
