One-loop gauge invariant amplitudes with a space-like gluon
Nowadays the particle physics has entered an era where high precision
calculations are required in order to compare the theoretical predictions with
the experimental data. In this paper, we explicitly compute the virtual
contributions for the space-like one-jet processes, \procgg,\procqq,\procH
and \procee within the auxiliary parton method. Our results, which are
expected to play an important role in high precision description of small
physics, explicitly confirm the conjecture developed in Ref.
\cite{vanHameren:2022mtk}, thus helping to bridge the gap between lowest order
calculations and NLO corrections within hybrid -factorization scheme
Smart Vehicle to Grid Interface Project: Electromobility Management System Architecture and Field Test Results
This paper presents and discusses the electromobility management system
developed in the context of the SMARTV2G project, enabling the automatic
control of plug-in electric vehicles' (PEVs') charging processes. The paper
describes the architecture and the software/hardware components of the
electromobility management system. The focus is put in particular on the
implementation of a centralized demand side management control algorithm, which
allows remote real time control of the charging stations in the field,
according to preferences and constraints expressed by all the actors involved
(in particular the distribution system operator and the PEV users). The results
of the field tests are reported and discussed, highlighting critical issues
raised from the field experience.Comment: To appear in IEEE International Electric Vehicle Conference (IEEE

Information extraction from multimedia web documents: an open-source platform and testbed
The LivingKnowledge project aimed to enhance the current state of the art in search, retrieval and knowledge management on the web by advancing the use of sentiment and opinion analysis within multimedia applications. To achieve this aim, a diverse set of novel and complementary analysis techniques have been integrated into a single, but extensible software platform on which such applications can be built. The platform combines state-of-the-art techniques for extracting facts, opinions and sentiment from multimedia documents, and unlike earlier platforms, it exploits both visual and textual techniques to support multimedia information retrieval. Foreseeing the usefulness of this software in the wider community, the platform has been made generally available as an open-source project. This paper describes the platform design, gives an overview of the analysis algorithms integrated into the system and describes two applications that utilise the system for multimedia information retrieval
Tips and tricks for the diagnosis and management of biliary stenosis-state of the art review
Biliary stenosis may represent a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge resulting in a delay in diagnosis and initiation of therapy due to the frequent difficulty in distinguishing a benign from a malignant stricture. In such cases, the diagnostic flowchart includes the sequential execution of imaging techniques, such as magnetic resonance, magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography, and endoscopic ultrasound, while endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is performed to collect tissue for histopathological/cytological diagnosis or to treat the stenosis by insertion of stent. The execution of percutaneous transhepatic drainage with subsequent biopsy has been shown to increase the possibility of tissue diagnosis after failure of the above techniques. Although the diagnostic yield of histopathology and imaging has increased with improvements in endoscopic ultrasound and peroral cholangioscopy, differential diagnosis between malignant and benign stenosis may not be easy in some patients, and strictures are classified as indeterminate. In these cases, a multidisciplinary workup including biochemical marker assays and advanced technologies available may speed up a diagnosis of malignancy or avoid unnecessary surgery in the event of a benign stricture. Here, we review recent advancements in the diagnosis and management of biliary strictures and describe tips and tricks to increase diagnostic yields in clinical routine

Changes resulting from the publishing process, such as peer review, editing, corrections, structural formatting, and other quality control mechanisms may not be reflected in this document. Changes may have been made to this work since it was submitted for publication. Copyright @ 2012 Elsevier B.V.This paper proposes new metrics for the process of price discovery on the main electronic trading platform for euro-denominated government securities. Analysing price data on daily transactions for 107 bonds over a period of 27 months, we find a greater degree of price leadership of the dominant market when our measures (as opposed to the traditional price discovery metrics) are used. We also present unambiguous evidence that a market’s contribution to price discovery is crucially affected by the level of trading activity. The implications of these empirical findings are discussed in the light of the debate about the possible restructuring of the regulatory framework for the Treasury bond market in Europe
Updated European guidelines for clinical management of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), MUTYH-associated polyposis (MAP), gastric adenocarcinoma, proximal polyposis of the stomach (GAPPS) and other rare adenomatous polyposis syndromes: a joint EHTG-ESCP revision
European guidelines; Familial adenomatous polyposis; Gastric adenocarcinomaDirectrices europeas; Poliposis adenomatosa familiar; Adenocarcinoma gástricoDirectrius europees; Poliposi adenomatosa familiar; Adenocarcinoma gàstricBackground: Hereditary adenomatous polyposis syndromes, including familial adenomatous polyposis and other rare adenomatous polyposis syndromes, increase the lifetime risk of colorectal and other cancers.
Methods: A team of 38 experts convened to update the 2008 European recommendations for the clinical management of patients with adenomatous polyposis syndromes. Additionally, other rare monogenic adenomatous polyposis syndromes were reviewed and added. Eighty-nine clinically relevant questions were answered after a systematic review of the existing literature with grading of the evidence according to Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation methodology. Two levels of consensus were identified: consensus threshold (≥67% of voting guideline committee members voting either 'Strongly agree' or 'Agree' during the Delphi rounds) and high threshold (consensus ≥ 80%).
Results: One hundred and forty statements reached a high level of consensus concerning the management of hereditary adenomatous polyposis syndromes.
Conclusion: These updated guidelines provide current, comprehensive, and evidence-based practical recommendations for the management of surveillance and treatment of familial adenomatous polyposis patients, encompassing additionally MUTYH-associated polyposis, gastric adenocarcinoma and proximal polyposis of the stomach and other recently identified polyposis syndromes based on pathogenic variants in other genes than APC or MUTYH. Due to the rarity of these diseases, patients should be managed at specialized centres. This research was supported financially by the British Journal of Medicine and by the ESCP (European Society of Coloproctology)
Platelet aggregation is affected by nitrosothiols in patients with chronic hepatitis: in vivo and in vitro studies
AIM:
To investigate the relationship among the number of platelets and plasma levels of S-nitrosothiols (S-NO), nitrite, total non-protein SH (NPSH), glutathione (GSH), cysteine (CYS), malondialdehyde (MDA), 4-hydroxininenal (4HNE), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFalpha) and interleukin (IL)-6 in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CH).
METHODS:
In vitro the aggregation of platelets derived from controls and CH patients was evaluated before and after the addition of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and collagen, both in basal conditions and after incubation with nitrosoglutathione (GSNO).
RESULTS:
In vivo, S-NO plasma levels increased significantly in CH patients and they were significantly directly correlated with platelet numbers. Patients with platelet counts 150000/microL. In vitro, the ADP and collagen aggregation time was increased in platelets from patients and not from controls; in addition, platelets from CH patients but not from controls also showed a latency time after exposure to collagen
Practice changes beta power at rest and its modulation during movement in healthy subjects but not in patients with Parkinson\u27s disease
Abstract Background PD (Parkinson\u27s disease) is characterized by impairments in cortical plasticity, in beta frequency at rest and in beta power modulation during movement (i.e., event‐related ERS [synchronization] and ERD [desynchronization]). Recent results with experimental protocols inducing long‐term potentiation in healthy subjects suggest that cortical plasticity phenomena might be reflected by changes of beta power recorded with EEG during rest. Here, we determined whether motor practice produces changes in beta power at rest and during movements in both healthy subjects and patients with PD. We hypothesized that such changes would be reduced in PD. Methods We thus recorded EEG in patients with PD and age‐matched controls before, during and after a 40‐minute reaching task. We determined posttask changes of beta power at rest and assessed the progressive changes of beta ERD and ERS during the task over frontal and sensorimotor regions. Results We found that beta ERS and ERD changed significantly with practice in controls but not in PD. In PD compared to controls, beta power at rest was greater over frontal sensors but posttask changes, like those during movements, were far less evident. In both groups, kinematic characteristics improved with practice; however, there was no correlation between such improvements and the changes in beta power. Conclusions We conclude that prolonged practice in a motor task produces use‐dependent modifications that are reflected in changes of beta power at rest and during movement. In PD, such changes are significantly reduced; such a reduction might represent, at least partially, impairment of cortical plasticity

On the origin of the Galactic thin and thick discs, their abundance gradients and the diagnostic potential of their abundance ratios
Using a semi-analytical model of the evolution of the Milky Way, we show how
secular evolution can create distinct overdensities in the phase space of
various properties (e.g. age vs metallicity or abundance ratios vs age)
corresponding to the thin and thick discs. In particular, we show how key
properties of the Solar vicinity can be obtained by secular evolution, with no
need for external or special events, like galaxy mergers or paucity in star
formation. This concerns the long established double-branch behaviour of
[alpha/Fe] vs metallicity and the recently found non-monotonic evolution of the
stellar abundance gradient, evaluated at the birth radii of stars. We extend
the discussion to other abundance ratios and we suggest a classification
scheme, based on the nature of the corresponding yields (primary vs secondary
or odd elements) and on the lifetimes of their sources (short-lived vs
long-lived ones). The latter property is critical in determining the single- or
double- branch behavior of an elementary abundance ratio in the Solar
neighborhood. We underline the high diagnostic potential of this finding, which
can help to separate clearly elements with sources evolving on different
timescales and help determining the site of e.g. the r-process(es). We define
the "abundance distance" between the thin and thick disc sequences as an
important element for such a separation. We also show how the inside-out
evolution of the Milky Way disc leads rather to a single-branch behavior in
other disc regions.Comment: 20 pages, 16 figures, to appear in MNRA
