SuperIdentity: fusion of identity across real and cyber domains
Under both benign and malign circumstances, people now manage a spectrum of identities across both real-world and cyber domains. Our belief, however, is that all these instances ultimately track back for an individual to reflect a single ‘SuperIdentity’. This paper outlines the assumptions underpinning the SuperIdentity Project, describing the innovative use of data fusion to incorporate novel real-world and cyber cues into a rich framework appropriate for modern identity. The proposed combinatorial model will support a robust identification or authentication decision, with confidence indexed both by the level of trust in data provenance, and the diagnosticity of the identity factors being used. Additionally, the exploration of correlations between factors may underpin the more intelligent use of identity information so that known information may be used to predict previously hidden information. With modern living supporting the ‘distribution of identity’ across real and cyber domains, and with criminal elements operating in increasingly sophisticated ways in the hinterland between the two, this approach is suggested as a way forwards, and is discussed in terms of its impact on privacy, security, and the detection of threa
Disordered Hubbard Model with Attraction: Coupling Energy of Cooper Pairs in Small Clusters
We generalize the Cooper problem to the case of many interacting particles in
the vicinity of the Fermi level in the presence of disorder. On the basis of
this approach we study numerically the variation of the pair coupling energy in
small clusters as a function of disorder. We show that the Cooper pair energy
is strongly enhanced by disorder, which at the same time leads to the

A Laser Frequency Comb System for Absolute Calibration of the VTT Echelle Spectrograph
A wavelength calibration system based on a laser frequency comb (LFC) was
developed in a co-operation between the Kiepenheuer-Institut f\"ur
Sonnenphysik, Freiburg, Germany and the Max-Planck-Institut f\"ur Quantenoptik,
Garching, Germany for permanent installation at the German Vacuum Tower
Telescope (VTT) on Tenerife, Canary Islands. The system was installed
successfully in October 2011. By simultaneously recording the spectra from the
Sun and the LFC, for each exposure a calibration curve can be derived from the
known frequencies of the comb modes that is suitable for absolute calibration
at the meters per second level. We briefly summarize some topics in solar
physics that benefit from absolute spectroscopy and point out the advantages of
LFC compared to traditional calibration techniques. We also sketch the basic
setup of the VTT calibration system and its integration with the existing

Temperature dependence of the Casimir effect between metallic mirrors
We calculate the Casimir force and free energy for plane metallic mirrors at
non-zero temperature. Numerical evaluations are given with temperature and
conductivity effects treated simultaneously. The results are compared with the
approximation where both effects are treated independently and the corrections
simply multiplied. The deviation between the exact and approximated results
takes the form of a temperature dependent function for which an analytical
expression is given. The knowledge of this function allows simple and accurate

A mixed-methods study of the health-related masculine values among young Canadian men
Masculinity frameworks in men’s health research have focused on masculine ideals and norms to describe men’s health practices. However, little attention has been paid to inductively deriving insights about what constitutes health-related masculine values among young men. A sequential exploratory mixed-methods design, comprising a qualitative lead to derive health-related masculine values with a follow-up quantitative arm to test the items, was used. Drawing on a sample of 15–29-year-old Canadian male interview participants (n = 30) and survey respondents (n = 600), 5 health-related masculine values were highlighted: (a) selflessness, (b) openness, (c) well-being, (d) strength, and (e) autonomy. Selflessness was characterized by caring for and helping others. Openness included the willingness to gain exposure from new experiences, ideas, and people. Well-being was linked to fitness and masculine body ideals and aesthetics. In terms of strength, men endorsed intellectual, emotional, and physical strength. Regarding autonomy, there was consensus men should be self-sufficient and decisive, whereas being independent drew less endorsement. Highlighting the interdependency of these domains, exploratory factor analysis yielded 2 overarching reliable quantitative dimensions characterized by domains of being inclusive (openness and selflessness; α = .88) and empowered (well-being and autonomy; α = .85). Some inductively derived and pilot-tested values ran counter to long-standing claims that young men are typically hedonistic, hypercompetitive, and estranged from self-health. Study findings are discussed detailing how the evaluation of specific health-related masculine values in subgroups of men might advance masculinities-focused men’s health research and inform the next generation of targeted gender-sensitized services. On arbitrages arising from honest times
In the context of a general continuous financial market model, we study
whether the additional information associated with an honest time gives rise to
arbitrage profits. By relying on the theory of progressive enlargement of
filtrations, we explicitly show that no kind of arbitrage profit can ever be
realised strictly before an honest time, while classical arbitrage
opportunities can be realised exactly at an honest time as well as after an
honest time. Moreover, stronger arbitrages of the first kind can only be
obtained by trading as soon as an honest time occurs. We carefully study the
behavior of local martingale deflators and consider no-arbitrage-type

The Casimir force and the quantum theory of lossy optical cavities
We present a new derivation of the Casimir force between two parallel plane
mirrors at zero temperature. The two mirrors and the cavity they enclose are
treated as quantum optical networks. They are in general lossy and
characterized by frequency dependent reflection amplitudes. The additional
fluctuations accompanying losses are deduced from expressions of the optical
theorem. A general proof is given for the theorem relating the spectral density
inside the cavity to the reflection amplitudes seen by the inner fields. This
density determines the vacuum radiation pressure and, therefore, the Casimir
force. The force is obtained as an integral over the real frequencies,
including the contribution of evanescent waves besides that of ordinary waves,
and, then, as an integral over imaginary frequencies. The demonstration relies
only on general properties obeyed by real mirrors which also enforce general

Advances in ab-initio theory of Multiferroics. Materials and mechanisms: modelling and understanding
Within the broad class of multiferroics (compounds showing a coexistence of
magnetism and ferroelectricity), we focus on the subclass of "improper
electronic ferroelectrics", i.e. correlated materials where electronic degrees
of freedom (such as spin, charge or orbital) drive ferroelectricity. In
particular, in spin-induced ferroelectrics, there is not only a {\em
coexistence} of the two intriguing magnetic and dipolar orders; rather, there
is such an intimate link that one drives the other, suggesting a giant
magnetoelectric coupling. Via first-principles approaches based on density
functional theory, we review the microscopic mechanisms at the basis of
multiferroicity in several compounds, ranging from transition metal oxides to
organic multiferroics (MFs) to organic-inorganic hybrids (i.e. metal-organic

Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results
