Heavy flavor production at HERA
Recent results of open charm and beauty production in electron proton
scattering at HERA are presented. In photoproduction, the measured cross
sections for charm exceed fixed order NLO QCD calculations. Experimental
evidence supports the hypothesis that a significant fraction of photoproduction
events with charm can be described by resolved photon processes, where the
charm quark is a constituent of the resolved photon. In deep inelastic
scattering the NLO calculations give in general a fairly reasonable description
of the observed charm cross sections. The measurements of the structure
function show that, at large photon virtualities and low x, the
events with charm constitute a major part of the total ep cross section. The
beauty cross sections both in photoproduction and in DIS exceed NLO

Charm, Beauty and Top at HERA
Results on open charm and beauty production and on the search for top
production in high-energy electron-proton collisions at HERA are reviewed. This
includes a discussion of relevant theoretical aspects, a summary of the
available measurements and measurement techniques, and their impact on improved
understanding of QCD and its parameters, such as parton density functions and
charm- and beauty-quark masses. The impact of these results on measurements at

Deformations of modules of maximal grade and the Hilbert scheme at determinantal schemes
Let R be a polynomial ring and M a finitely generated graded R-module of
maximal grade (which means that the ideal I_t(\cA) generated by the maximal
minors of a homogeneous presentation matrix, \cA, of M has maximal codimension
in R). Suppose X:=Proj(R/I_t(\cA)) is smooth in a sufficiently large open
subset and dim X > 0. Then we prove that the local graded deformation functor
of M is isomorphic to the local Hilbert (scheme) functor at X \subset Proj(R)
under a week assumption which holds if dim X > 1. Under this assumptions we get
that the Hilbert scheme is smooth at (X), and we give an explicit formula for
the dimension of its local ring. As a corollary we prove a conjecture of R. M.
Mir\'o-Roig and the author that the closure of the locus of standard
determinantal schemes with fixed degrees of the entries in a presentation
matrix is a generically smooth component V of the Hilbert scheme. Also their
conjecture on the dimension of V is proved for dim X > 0. The cohomology
H^i_{*}({\cN}_X) of the normal sheaf of X in Proj(R) is shown to vanish for 0 <
i < dim X-1. Finally the mentioned results, slightly adapted, remain true
replacing R by any Cohen-Macaulay quotient of a polynomial ring.Comment: 24 page
Combined QCD and electroweak analysis of HERA data
A simultaneous fit of parton distribution functions (PDFs) and electroweak
parameters to HERA data on deep inelastic scattering is presented. The input
data are the neutral current and charged current inclusive cross sections which
were previously used in the QCD analysis leading to the HERAPDF2.0 PDFs. In
addition, the polarisation of the electron beam was taken into account for the
ZEUS data recorded between 2004 and 2007. Results on the vector and
axial-vector couplings of the Z boson to u- and d-type quarks, on the value of
the electroweak mixing angle and the mass of the W boson are presented. The
values obtained for the electroweak parameters are in agreement with Standard

Hierarchies of Susy Splittings and Invisible Photinos as Dark Matter
We explore how to generate hierarchies in the splittings between
superpartners. Some of the consequences are the existence of invisible
components of dark matter, new inflaton candidates, invisible monopoles and a
number of invisible particles that might dominate during various eras, in
