Photonuclear reactions with Zinc: A case for clinical linacs
The use of bremsstrahlung photons produced by a linac to induce photonuclear
reactions is wide spread. However, using a clinical linac to produce the
photons is a new concept. We aimed to induce photonuclear reactions on zinc
isotopes and measure the subsequent transition energies and half-lives. For
this purpose, a bremsstrahlung photon beam of 18 MeV endpoint energy produced
by the Philips SLI-25 linac has been used. The subsequent decay has been
measured with a well-shielded single HPGe detector. The results obtained for
transition energies are in good agreement with the literature data and in many
cases surpass these in accuracy. For the half-lives, we are in agreement with
the literature data, but do not achieve their precision. The obtained accuracy
for the transition energies show what is achievable in an experiment such as
ours. We demonstrate the usefulness and benefits of employing clinical linacs
for nuclear physics experiments

THE EFFECT OF 8 WEEK TENNIS TECHNICAL TRAINING AND GAMES ON REACTION TIME IN 10-12 YEAR OLD BOYS
The aim of this study is to assess the effect of tennis technique training and games on reaction times of 10-12 years old boys. For this study, 40 subjects who did not perform any physical activity volunteered. Subjects randomly assigned two groups: Experimental group: 20, control group: 20. The experimental group was subjected to 8 week three days a week and 60 minute per session tennis and education with games training program modified according to relevant age group. The control group did not participate any physical activity. Visual, auditory and mix reaction times were measured by Newtest 1000 reaction timer. Subjects’ reaction times were measured twice before and after training program. SPSS 22.0 package program was used for analysis of the data obtained from the study. Independent Sample T test was used for comparison between groups, and paired samples t test was analyzed at p <0.05 significance level. As a result of the study, there was no difference in the control group, and after eight weeks of tenement-specific games and technical training, the research group revealed significant changes between auditory, visual and mixed reaction times in both hands. COVID-19 vaccine-related attitudes and concerns of chemotherapy patients
Objective: This study aimed to examine the attitudes and concerns of chemotherapy patients related to COVID-19 vaccination and determine factors associated with their vaccine behavior.
Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted with 300 patients who received chemotherapy in the oncology outpatient clinic of a University Hospital in Istanbul in October 2021. Based on our power calculation, a minimum sample size of 264 patients was needed. However, we recruited a sample of 300 to increase the power of the study. Data were collected online using a patient information form and the Attitudes Towards the COVID-19 Vaccine Scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and parametric tests.
Results: The participants had a mean age of 55.64±13.80 years, 56.7% were women, 64% were married, 38.3% were high school graduates, and 35.7% were homemakers. Age, education level, and chronic disease were associated only with negative attitudes towards the COVID-19 vaccine; gender was associated with positive attitudes. Being vaccinated against COVID-19 was associated with 99% lower negative attitudes and 66.9 times higher positive attitudes towards the COVID-19 vaccine, while men had 76% lower positive attitudes than women.
Conclusions: Overall, patients receiving chemotherapy had a favorable attitude toward and high acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine
Revisiting Synthesis Model of Sparse Audio Declipper
The state of the art in audio declipping has currently been achieved by SPADE
(SParse Audio DEclipper) algorithm by Kiti\'c et al. Until now, the
synthesis/sparse variant, S-SPADE, has been considered significantly slower
than its analysis/cosparse counterpart, A-SPADE. It turns out that the opposite
is true: by exploiting a recent projection lemma, individual iterations of both
algorithms can be made equally computationally expensive, while S-SPADE tends
to require considerably fewer iterations to converge. In this paper, the two
algorithms are compared across a range of parameters such as the window length,
window overlap and redundancy of the transform. The experiments show that
although S-SPADE typically converges faster, the average performance in terms
of restoration quality is not superior to A-SPADE
The role of corporate culture and ethical environment in directing individuals’ behavior
This study is aimed at verifying the conception that a strong corporate culture supported with a positive ethical environment is central for directing and guiding the behavior of individuals toward achieving organizational objectives. The rationale for this study stems from the circumstance that formal controls systems suffer from consecutive failures, as the performance of organizations is still suffering from financial collapses. Reasons behind such failures might be related to the insufficient appreciation of the culture-based controls given that formal controls are influenced by the human nature of employees and the affixed moral side.Data subject to analysis are obtained from a judgmental sampling method using a self-completion questionnaire covering the listed companies at Jordan Securities Commission. A factor analysis and a standard multiple regression analysis have been conducted with the aim of proving the hypotheses of the research. The research results show that strong corporate culture supported with a positive ethical environment can direct the behavior of employees for the good of organizations. Results also support the importance of involvement of top management considering its role in filling the gap between the embraced and the workable values and beliefs of an entity
Gravitating Instantons In 3 Dimensions
We study the Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity coupled to Yang-Mills-Higgs theory
in three dimensional Euclidean space with cosmological constant. The classical
equations reduce to Bogomol'nyi type first order equations in curved space.

Functional biology of the Steel syndrome founder allele and evidence for clan genomics derivation of COL27A1 pathogenic alleles worldwide

Previously we reported the identification of a homozygous COL27A1 (c.2089G\u3eC; p.Gly697Arg) missense variant and proposed it as a founder allele in Puerto Rico segregating with Steel syndrome (STLS, MIM #615155); a rare osteochondrodysplasia characterized by short stature, congenital bilateral hip dysplasia, carpal coalitions, and scoliosis. We now report segregation of this variant in five probands from the initial clinical report defining the syndrome and an additional family of Puerto Rican descent with multiple affected adult individuals. We modeled the orthologous variant in murine Col27a1 and found it recapitulates some of the major Steel syndrome associated skeletal features including reduced body length, scoliosis, and a more rounded skull shape. Characterization of the in vivo murine model shows abnormal collagen deposition in the extracellular matrix and disorganization of the proliferative zone of the growth plate. We report additional COL27A1 pathogenic variant alleles identified in unrelated consanguineous Turkish kindreds suggesting Clan Genomics and identity-by-descent homozygosity contributing to disease in this population. The hypothesis that carrier states for this autosomal recessive osteochondrodysplasia may contribute to common complex traits is further explored in a large clinical population cohort.
