Analytic and Asymptotic Analysis of Bayesian Cramér-Rao Bound for Dynamical Phase Offset Estimation

    No full text
International audienceIn this paper, we present a closed-form expression of a Bayesian Cramér-Rao lower bound for the estimation of a dynamical phase offset in a non-data-aided BPSK transmitting context. This kind of bound is derived considering two different scenarios: a first expression is obtained in an off-line context and then, a second expression in an on-line context logically follows. The SNR-asymptotic expressions of this bound drive us to introduce a new asymptotic bound, namely the Asymptotic Bayesian Cramér-Rao Bound. This bound is close to the classical Bayesian bound but is easier to evaluate

Towards the simulation of the whole manufacturing chain processes with FORGE®

    No full text
International audienceFollowing the metal composition and the microstructure evolution during the whole manufacturing chain is becoming a key point in the metal forming industry to better understand the processes and reach the increasing quality requirements for the parts. Thus, providing a simulation tool able to model the whole chain becomes critical. Physical phenomena occurring during the processes are nowadays better understood, providing always more relevant models for numerical simulation. However, important numerical challenges still exist in order to be able to run those simulations with the required accuracy. This article shows how FORGE® tackles those issues in order to provide highly accurate microstructure and surface treatments simulation features applied on real industrial processes

Vaginal recurrence of endometrial cancer: MRI characteristics and correlation with patient outcome after salvage radiation therapy

Purpose To evaluate MRI characteristics in vaginal recurrence of endometrial cancer (EC) including tumor volume shrinkage during salvage radiotherapy, and to identify imaging features associated with survival. Methods Patients with vaginal recurrence of EC treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) followed by brachytherapy (BT), and with available pelvic MRI at two time points: baseline and/or before BT were retrospectively identified from 2004 to 2017. MRI features including recurrence location and tissue characteristics on T2- and T1-weighted images were evaluated at baseline only. Tumor volumes were measured both at baseline and pre-BT. Survival rates and associations were evaluated by Cox regression and Fisher's exact test, respectively. Results Sixty-two patients with 36 baseline and 50 pre-BT pelvic MRIs were included (24/62 with both MRIs). Vaginal recurrence of EC was most commonly located in the vaginal apex (27/36, 75%). Tumors with a post-contrast enhancing peripheral rim or low T2 signal rim at baseline showed longer recurrence-free survival (RFS) (HR 0.2, 95% CI 0.1-0.9, P < 0.05 adjusted for histology; HR 0.2, 95% CI 0.1-0.8, P < 0.05, respectively). The median tumor shrinkage at pre-BT was 69% (range 1-99%). Neither absolute tumor volumes nor volume regression at pre-BT were associated with RFS. Lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI) at hysterectomy and adjuvant RT were associated with recurrence involving the distal vagina (both P < 0.05). Conclusion Vaginal recurrences with rim enhancement at baseline MRI predicted improved RFS, while tumor volume shrinkage at pre-BT did not. Distal vaginal recurrence was more common in patients with LVSI and adjuvant RT at EC diagnosis

Exploring thienothiadiazine dioxides as isosteric analogues of benzo-and pyridothiadiazine dioxides in the search of new AMPA and kainate receptor positive allosteric modulators

peer reviewedThe synthesis and biological evaluation on AMPA and kainate receptors of new examples of 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,2,4-thieno[3,2-e]-1,2,4-thiadiazine 1,1-dioxides is described. The introduction of a cyclopropyl chain instead of an ethyl chain at the 4-position of the thiadiazine ring was found to dramatically improve the potentiator activity on AMPA receptors, with compound 32 (BPAM395) expressing in vitro activity on AMPARs (EC2x = 0.24 ÎĽM) close to that of the reference 4-cyclopropyl-substituted benzothiadiazine dioxide 10 (BPAM344). Interestingly, the 4-allyl-substituted thienothiadiazine dioxide 27 (BPAM307) emerged as the most promising compound on kainate receptors being a more effective potentiator than the 4-cyclopropyl-substituted thienothiadiazine dioxide 32 and supporting the view that the 4-allyl substitution of the thiadiazine ring could be more favorable than the 4-cyclopropyl substitution to induce marked activity on kainate receptors versus AMPA receptors. The thieno-analogue 36 (BPAM279) of the clinically tested S18986 (11) was selected for in vivo evaluation in mice as a cognitive enhancer due to a safer profile than 32 after massive per os drug administration. Compound 36 was found to increase the cognition performance in mice at low doses (1 mg/kg) per os suggesting that the compound was well absorbed after oral administration and able to reach the central nervous system. Finally, compound 32 was selected for co-crystallization with the GluA2-LBD (L504Y,N775S) and glutamate to examine the binding mode of thienothiadiazine dioxides within the allosteric binding site of the AMPA receptor. At the allosteric site, this compound established similar interactions as the previously reported BTD-type AMPA receptor modulators
