Ultracold-neutron infrastructure for the gravitational spectrometer GRANIT
The gravitational spectrometer GRANIT will be set up at the Institut Laue
Langevin. It will profit from the high ultracold neutron density produced by a
dedicated source. A monochromator made of crystals from graphite intercalated
with potassium will provide a neutron beam with 0.89 nm incident on the source.
The source employs superthermal conversion of cold neutrons in superfluid
helium, in a vessel made from BeO ceramics with Be windows. A special
extraction technique has been tested which feeds the spectrometer only with
neutrons with a vertical velocity component v < 20 cm/s, thus keeping the
density in the source high. This new source is expected to provide a density of
up to 800 1/cm3 for the spectrometer.Comment: accepted for publication in Proceedings International Workshop on

Alpha scattering and capture reactions in the A = 7 system at low energies
Differential cross sections for He- scattering were measured in
the energy range up to 3 MeV. These data together with other available
experimental results for He and H scattering were
analyzed in the framework of the optical model using double-folded potentials.
The optical potentials obtained were used to calculate the astrophysical
S-factors of the capture reactions HeBe and
HLi, and the branching ratios for the transitions into
the two final Be and Li bound states, respectively. For
HeBe excellent agreement between calculated and
experimental data is obtained. For HLi a value
has been found which is a factor of about 1.5 larger than the adopted value.

Trust Building in Electronic Markets: Relative Importance and Interaction Effects of Trust Building Mechanisms
We examine the relative and complementary effectiveness of trust-building strategies in online environments. While prior research has examined various antecedents to trust, we investigated two trust-building mechanisms more in depth: Web site trust and vendor reputation. We tried to understand the relative effectiveness of these two important mechanisms to provide online businesses with a clear recommendation of how to establish trust in an effective and efficient manner. Drawing from the literature on trust, we proposed vendor reputation to be more effective than Web site trust. Moreover, we examined a potential complementary effect of these mechanisms so as to provide online businesses with a deeper understanding of how to derive superior trust. We hypothesize a small such effect. The study proposes a laboratory experiment to test the model
Growth and longevity of Exosphaeroma hylocoetes (Isopoda) under varying conditions of salinity and temperature
Numerous studies have documented the importance of both temperature and salinity in influencing aquatic crustacean metabolic processes such as respiration and growth. For example, increased water temperatures have been shown to increase respiration rates in various species of shrimp (Chen & Nan 1993; Spanonopoulos-Hernándeza et al. 2005; Allan et al. 2006), and copepods (Isla & Perissinotto 2004). The response of invertebrates to changes in salinity is more complex, largely reflecting their evolutionary origins (Kinne 1966). For example, juvenile blue swimming crabs, Portunus pelagicus, displayed significantly faster growth and higher survival in response to increasingsalinity (Romano & Zeng 2006). Additional factors that may influence the growth rates of crustaceans include photoperiod (Gambardella et al. 1997), food availability (Shuster & Guthrie 1999) and sex (Newman et al. 2007)
Velocity-space sensitivity of the time-of-flight neutron spectrometer at JET
The velocity-space sensitivities of fast-ion diagnostics are often described by so-called weight functions. Recently, we formulated weight functions showing the velocity-space sensitivity of the often dominant beam-target part of neutron energy spectra. These weight functions for neutron emission spectrometry (NES) are independent of the particular NES diagnostic. Here we apply these NES weight functions to the time-of-flight spectrometer TOFOR at JET. By taking the instrumental response function of TOFOR into account, we calculate time-of-flight NES weight functions that enable us to directly determine the velocity-space sensitivity of a given part of a measured time-of-flight spectrum from TOFOR
Relationship of edge localized mode burst times with divertor flux loop signal phase in JET
A phase relationship is identified between sequential edge localized modes (ELMs) occurrence times in a set of H-mode tokamak plasmas to the voltage measured in full flux azimuthal loops in the divertor region. We focus on plasmas in the Joint European Torus where a steady H-mode is sustained over several seconds, during which ELMs are observed in the Be II emission at the divertor. The ELMs analysed arise from intrinsic ELMing, in that there is no deliberate intent to control the ELMing process by external means. We use ELM timings derived from the Be II signal to perform direct time domain analysis of the full flux loop VLD2 and VLD3 signals, which provide a high cadence global measurement proportional to the voltage induced by changes in poloidal magnetic flux. Specifically, we examine how the time interval between pairs of successive ELMs is linked to the time-evolving phase of the full flux loop signals. Each ELM produces a clear early pulse in the full flux loop signals, whose peak time is used to condition our analysis. The arrival time of the following ELM, relative to this pulse, is found to fall into one of two categories: (i) prompt ELMs, which are directly paced by the initial response seen in the flux loop signals; and (ii) all other ELMs, which occur after the initial response of the full flux loop signals has decayed in amplitude. The times at which ELMs in category (ii) occur, relative to the first ELM of the pair, are clustered at times when the instantaneous phase of the full flux loop signal is close to its value at the time of the first ELM
