Non-Markovian Exciton-Phonon Interactions in Core-Shell Colloidal Quantum Dots at Femtosecond Timescales
CNPQ - CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICOFAPESP - FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULOWe perform two-dimensional coherent spectroscopy on CdSe/CdZnS core-shell colloidal quantum dots at cryogenic temperatures. In the two-dimensional spectra, sidebands due to electronic coupling with CdSe lattice LO-phonon modes are observed to have evolutions deviating from the exponential dephasing expected from Markovian spectral diffusion, which is instantaneous and memoryless. Comparison to simulations provides evidence that LO-phonon coupling induces energy-gap fluctuations on the finite timescales of nuclear motion. The femtosecond resolution of our technique probes exciton dynamics directly on the timescales of phonon coupling in nanocrystals.123516CNPQ - CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICOFAPESP - FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULOCNPQ - CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICOFAPESP - FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULOSem informação2013/16911-22016/50011-7This work was supported by the Department of Energy Grant No. DE-SC0015782. Einstein-aether theory, violation of Lorentz invariance, and metric-affine gravity
We show that the Einstein-aether theory of Jacobson and Mattingly (J&M) can
be understood in the framework of the metric-affine (gauge theory of) gravity
(MAG). We achieve this by relating the aether vector field of J&M to certain
post-Riemannian nonmetricity pieces contained in an independent linear
connection of spacetime. Then, for the aether, a corresponding geometrical
curvature-square Lagrangian with a massive piece can be formulated
straightforwardly. We find an exact spherically symmetric solution of our
model.Comment: Revtex4, 38 pages, 1 figur
Value-added Synthesis of Graphene: Recycling Industrial Carbon Waste into Electrodes for High-Performance Electronic Devices
We have developed a simple, scalable, transfer-free, ecologically sustainable, value-added method to convert inexpensive coal tar pitch to patterned graphene films directly on device substrates. The method, which does not require an additional transfer process, enables direct growth of graphene films on device substrates in large area. To demonstrate the practical applications of the graphene films, we used the patterned graphene grown on a dielectric substrate directly as electrodes of bottom-contact pentacene field-effect transistors (max. field effect mobility similar to 0.36 cm(2).V-1.s(-1)), without using any physical transfer process. This use of a chemical waste product as a solid carbon source instead of commonly used explosive hydrocarbon gas sources for graphene synthesis has the dual benefits of converting the waste to a valuable product, and reducing pollution.111714Ysciescopu
Inflation and Gauge Hierarchy in Randall-Sundrum Compactification
We obtain the general inflationary solutions for the slab of five-dimensional
AdS spacetime where the fifth dimension is an orbifold and two
three-branes reside at its boundaries, of which the Randall-Sundrum model
corresponds to the static limit. The investigation of the general solutions and
their static limit reveals that the RS model recasts both the cosmological
constant problem and the gauge hierarchy problem into the balancing problem of
the bulk and the brane cosmological constants.Comment: 9 pages, revtex, minor changes and more references adde
Electron affinity of Li: A state-selective measurement
We have investigated the threshold of photodetachment of Li^- leading to the
formation of the residual Li atom in the state. The excited residual
atom was selectively photoionized via an intermediate Rydberg state and the
resulting Li^+ ion was detected. A collinear laser-ion beam geometry enabled
both high resolution and sensitivity to be attained. We have demonstrated the
potential of this state selective photodetachment spectroscopic method by
improving the accuracy of Li electron affinity measurements an order of
magnitude. From a fit to the Wigner law in the threshold region, we obtained a
Li electron affinity of 0.618 049(20) eV.Comment: 5 pages,6 figures,22 reference
