Damned if they do, damned if they don't: negotiating the tricky context of anti-social behaviour and keeping safe in disadvantaged urban neighbourhoods
Young people's relationship with anti-social behaviour (ASB) is complicated. While their behaviours are often stereotyped as anti-social (e.g. ‘hanging about’), they also experience ASB in their neighbourhood. In this study, we explore young people's own perspectives on ASB, comparing results from ‘go-along’ interviews and focus groups conducted in disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Glasgow, Scotland. This article discusses how young people's everyday experience of ASB was contextualised by social factors such as cultural stereotyping of marginalised groups, poor social connectivity and spatial marginalisation within their neighbourhood. Furthermore, we found that these social factors were mutually reinforcing and interacted in a way that appeared to leave young people in a ‘no-win’ situation regarding their association with ASB. Participation in ASB and attempts to avoid such involvement were seen to involve negative consequences: participation could entail violence and spatial restrictions linked to territoriality, but avoidance could lead to being ostracised from their peer group. Regardless of involvement, young people felt that adults stereotyped them as anti-social. Our findings therefore provide support for policies and interventions aimed at reducing ASB (perpetrated by residents of all ages); in part by better ensuring that young people have a clear incentive for avoiding such behaviours
The Geometry of D=11 Killing Spinors
We propose a way to classify all supersymmetric configurations of D=11
supergravity using the G-structures defined by the Killing spinors. We show
that the most general bosonic geometries admitting a Killing spinor have at
least a local SU(5) or an (Spin(7)\ltimes R^8)x R structure, depending on
whether the Killing vector constructed from the Killing spinor is timelike or
null, respectively. In the former case we determine what kind of local SU(5)
structure is present and show that almost all of the form of the geometry is
determined by the structure. We also deduce what further conditions must be
imposed in order that the equations of motion are satisfied. We illustrate the
formalism with some known solutions and also present some new solutions
including a rotating generalisation of the resolved membrane solutions and
generalisations of the recently constructed D=11 Godel solution.Comment: 36 pages. Typos corrected and discussion on G-structures improved.

Provinciality and the Art World: The Midland Group 1961- 1977
This paper takes as its focus the Midland Group Gallery in order to first, make a case for the consideration of the geographies of art galleries. Second, highlight the importance of galleries in the context of cultural geographies of the sixties. Third, discuss the role of provinciality in the operation of art worlds. In so doing it explicates one set of geographies surrounding the gallery
– those of the local, regional and international networks that connected to produce art works and art space. It reveals how the interactions between places and practices outside of metropolitan and regional hierarchies provides a more nuanced insight into how art worlds operated during the
sixties, a period of growing internationalism of art, and how contested definitions of the provincial played an integral role in this. The paper charts the operations of the Midland Group Gallery and the spaces that it occupied to demonstrate how it was representative of a post-war
discourse of provincialism and a corresponding re-evaluation of regional cultural activity
The Geometry of D=11 Null Killing Spinors
We determine the necessary and sufficient conditions on the metric and the
four-form for the most general bosonic supersymmetric configurations of D=11
supergravity which admit a null Killing spinor i.e. a Killing spinor which can
be used to construct a null Killing vector. This class covers all
supersymmetric time-dependent configurations and completes the classification

Can Europe recover without credit?
Data from 135 countries covering five decades suggests that creditless recoveries, in which
the stock of real credit does not return to the pre-crisis level for three years after the GDP
trough, are not rare and are characterised by remarkable real GDP growth rates: 4.7 percent
per year in middle-income countries and 3.2 percent per year in high-income countries.
However, the implications of these historical episodes for the current European situation are
limited, for two main reasons. First, creditless recoveries are much less common in highincome
countries, than in low-income countries which are financially undeveloped. European
economies heavily depend on bank loans and research suggests that loan supply played a
major role in the recent weak credit performance of Europe. There are reasons to believe that,
despite various efforts, normal lending has not yet been restored. Limited loan supply could
be disruptive for the European economic recovery and there has been only a minor
substitution of bank loans with debt securities. Second, creditless recoveries were associated
with significant real exchange rate depreciation, which has hardly occurred so far in most of
Europe. This stylised fact suggests that it might be difficult to re-establish economic growth
in the absence of sizeable real exchange rate depreciation, if credit growth does not return
Neutrino oscillation parameters from MINOS, ICARUS and OPERA combined
We perform a detailed analysis of the capabilities of the MINOS, ICARUS and
OPERA experiments to measure neutrino oscillation parameters at the atmospheric
scale with their data taken separately and in combination. MINOS will determine
and to within 10% at the 99% C.L. with
10 kton-years of data. While no one experiment will determine with much precision, if its value lies in the combined
sensitivity region of the three experiments, it will be possible to place a
lower bound of O(0.01) at the 95% C.L. on this parameter by combining the data
from the three experiments. The same bound can be placed with a combination of

The construction of marketing measures: the case of viewability
This study seeks to develop a critical understanding of marketing measures. Marketing measures inform a variety of marketing practices and have been subject to ethical, discursive and epistemological critique. Informed by a range of theoretical work, this study sheds light on the construction of a key marketing measure in digital advertising: viewability. It shows how a range of competing interests can be mobilized and aligned; how an object of interest can be stabilized; and how standards for measurement can be reconciled. Across this account, we can see how issues of accuracy, ideology and ethics are bracketed off as participants agree on which things matter and which things count
Measuring the Spectra of High Energy Neutrinos with a Kilometer-Scale Neutrino Telescope
We investigate the potential of a future kilometer-scale neutrino telescope
such as the proposed IceCube detector in the South Pole, to measure and
disentangle the yet unknown components of the cosmic neutrino flux, the prompt
atmospheric neutrinos coming from the decay of charmed particles and the
extra-galactic neutrinos, in the 10 TeV to 1 EeV energy range.

power of the IceCube detector and discuss how well we can determine magnitude
() as well as slope () of these two components of the high
energy neutrino spectrum, taking into account the background coming from the

Synthesis and antiproliferative activity of hindered, chiral 1,2-diaminodiamantane platinum(II) complexes
Platinum-based antineoplastic agents play a major role in the treatment of numerous types of cancer. A new bulky, lipophilic, and chiral ligand based on 1,2-diaminodiamantane in both of its enantiomeric forms was employed for the preparation of new platinum(ii) complexes with chloride and oxalate ligands. The dichloride complexes have a higher solubility and were evaluated as anti-proliferation agents for human ovarian cancer cell lines A2780 and cisplatin-resistant A2780cis. Its R,R-enantiomer showed increased efficacy compared to cisplatin for both cancer cell lines. A chromatographic approach was used to estimate the solvent partition coefficient of the dichloride complex. The binding of diamondoid-based platinum complexes to nucleotides was tested for both enantiomers with guanosine monophosphate (GMP) and deoxyguanosine monophosphate (dGMP) and occurs at a similar or faster rate for both isomers compared to cisplatin despite greatly increased steric demand.
